I can’t think of a more deserving person for this award than Victor Torres. His passion and dedication to our students are what makes him an amazing assistant principal. I met Torres when he was the AP at our local elementary school. It was his first year in the district, but he jumped in with both feet. When he transitioned to middle school, I was so excited to be working with him again. He has an uncanny ability to remember every student in our school. He can greet over 1,000 students by name, which instantly puts a smile on their faces. He genuinely cares for all who cross his path. In addition to his care for his students, he brought along a wonderful incentive for the students each quarter: the Hour of Awesomeness! It gives students the chance to be rewarded for all their hard work, giving them a chance to spend time with each other and just be kids. I would be thrilled to have him as an administrator for my little one.

I’ve known Mr Torres for over 25 years. As a child, he has always shown maturity and leadership among his peers. He had a passion for music and developed incredible musical skills that made him an exceptional musician today. His leadership skills also enabled him to become an awesome teacher and vice principal. Victor is an absolutely awesome administrator. His enthusiasm seldom wanes and it’s completely evident that he loves his job. He makes a real effort to know each of the nearly 1,000 students and so many of them seem to really LIKE him (middle school can be a tough crowd). He cares about the students and as many ask to speak to him when they have a problem, I feel like they know he cares. My honest opinion is that Mr Torres will be one of the administrators that his students will remember.
Mr. Torres has been a game changer at Wilbur Wright Middle School. The culture has shifted dramatically towards the better having him there. Both of my sons have nothing but positive things to say about him.

He turns many behavior issues into a learning experience for the students. He has high expectations and follows through on those expectations. He never belittles students and every student I know thinks he is amazing. Our school environment has drastically changed for the better since he joined Wilbur Wright. He was always treating me like a star, and its with his encouragement that I have the motivation to keep going. I think he has truly changed my life.

Mr. Torres is a great man who cares for his family deeply and has also commended my work as a musician, which is rather meaningful to me as he is a rather accomplished musician himself. He works day and night to plan this but he also makes it fun by having student participating in the activities like my personal favorite pieing a teacher in the face. It has been the greatest experience working for Mr. Torres at Wilbur Wright. Victor naturally exudes positivity in every moment of life. I have never felt more supported and more inspired in any job or school than I have been under his leadership. He has perfected the balance between creating great relationships with students and having fun at school, while also maintaining strong expectations for classroom goals and student behavior. The students see him as someone they can go to for a smile, a laugh, but as someone to confide in during tough and complicated times. The staff members have the same experience. His attitude towards life provides us with a sense of safety, confidence, and support. He provides a safe space to share ideas with and also ask for feedback both personally and professionally. He celebrates every little win for both staff members and students and genuinely cares about everyone. When work doesn't feel like work, you know you are at a great place. Thank you to Mr. Torres for being his true, authentic self.
Mr. Torres is someone that the students in our school not only respect, but truly like. You can tell by his interactions with students, that he takes the time to get to know them and they notice that too. The thing that I feel makes him a true Lifechanger is that he genuinely goes out of his way to find the positive in ALL students. He is quick to catch kids doing something good or kind and he will recognize it and make sure that it doesn't go unnoticed. I am proud to work alongside him on one of the best teams I have ever been a part of. Congratulations Mr. Torres! Mr. Torres has been such a blessing to have in our school system. He started off with my son in elementary where I witnessed him greet EVERY single child that walked through the door one at a time. Now as he has transferred to our middle school, I have seen him attend EVERY single school function as well as games my son has participated in. He makes us parents feel welcomed and makes our children feel so incredibly loved and safe in his care. Seeing him interact with the students is one of my favorite things when I attend school functions. My son thinks he is supposed to travel with him now to high school. We sure will miss him when we transition, but have been more than blessed to have him in our academic career all this time!
Mr. Torres is fun! As a parent, I could not be more grateful to him for helping my son feel comfortable making the big change from elementary school to middle school! The amount of relief he felt when he knew Mr. Torres would be starting at the middle school was immense! As a coworker, Victor was the first person to check in with you to see how everything was going, then jump right in with ideas and jokes to help out! My mom was at school one day and had the pleasure of meeting Victor. She was a teacher for 30 years and she said to me “You don’t know how lucky you are to have an administrator like him in your building!” He wholeheartedly deserves this award for positively impacting not only students, but all staff and community members. It has been years since I have worked with Victor, but he is still talked about amongst our staff members. He was an amazing educator and well respected with the students. He came back a couple years later to do a professional development for our building and just showed even more growth and knowledge as an educator. Mr. Torres makes every child feel like the most important person in the room. On the first days of school, I watched him ask new kids for their names so he could try to start remembering everyone. He has been a real shot in the arm for WWMS since his arrival. Even though he is a mediocre fantasy football player, Mr. Torres is the type of person that fifty years from now, the kids will look back at WWMS and remember how kind, fun, upbeat, and inclusive Mr. Torres is. It is indeed an honor to work alongside such a great person.
Mr. Torres is an amazing assistant principal. Being on an administration team with him, I get to see first hand how much he cares for our students. He works to know them as people. He shows he cares while also holding them accountable and encouraging growth. His energy each and every day makes it fun to come to work.
As a teammate, he always steps in to help in anyway he can. He is always talking about how we are the best middle school AND how we can get better. His creation of the Hour of Awesomeness as a quarterly student reward has caused many students to rethink their actions and work hard to earn the ability to play. I see him changing lives everyday.

I have known him several years as both a parent of an elementary school student (was Assistant Principal at Frank Hammond Elementary School) and now as a colleague at Wilbur Wright Middle School. Mr. Torres is one of those administrators who always has a smile on his face and a shout-out, literally, to the students in the hallways. He knows the names of every student in our building of 1,000 students in our 6th-8th grades. I am an instructional coach so I work closely with Mr. Torres. He is always available to bounce ideas off of and take my concerns. He is so supportive of, not only the students in our building but of the teachers as well. Through positive relationship building, he has proven himself to be such an asset to Wilbur Wright Middle School for our teachers, students, families, and the community.
Mr. Torres brings the sunshine to WWMS. His constant presence in the hallways with a big smile on his face makes the students and staff happy to be around him. He's a burst of energy and laughter that we all need each and every day. He pours so much love and energy into our school and community. He is constantly finding ways to make our students better and to celebrate every moment of success in our building. We are so fortunate to have him, and I hope he continues to receive all the love, honor, and recognition he so deserves.

When we first moved here from out of state, one of our kids had a very difficult time with the transition. Instead of punishment, Mr. Torres listened to my child and me and showed compassion. Mr. Torres has been a blessing to us and our kids throughout their middle school careers. He understands both the student and the parent. He has gone out of his way to call with good news as he knows that parents usually only hear from the principal regarding something negative. This is something that we will always remember. When we do hear about something not so positive, he is empathetic, understanding, and patient. He’s a dad as well. He doesn’t judge or discount a kid for their mistake. When we arrived in the USA with my three children, the youngest did not have enough confidence to speak English so he simply did not speak. We arrived in March, which made the change even more shocking. In addition to that, our children had been taking online classes for a year and a half because of the pandemic, so their social skills were minimize. My son's refusal to speak was such that even at school some teachers and staff thought he was mute. Fortunately, we entered Frank Hammond Elementary School right in the last year that Mr. Torres was the assistant principal and he made a big difference for me and my son. There was someone who spoke to him in Spanish, someone he could talk to without worrying about whether they would understand him or not. His permanent smile on his face with which he always greets you was a light in my son's path to feel calmer when arriving at school and knowing that there was someone he could turn to and for me as a mother it also helped me feel calm. Mr. Torres’ presence made a clear difference in those first months of transition for my youngest son and therefore for me, I thank God very much that he was on our path.
I am so impressed with Victor Torres! As a school board member, I have seen such a positive change in the culture at our middle school and much of that credit goes to Mr. Torres. He always has a smile on his face. His laugh is infectious. He takes the time to really get to know the students. He has endless energy. He is such a positive role model for our students. And I have never looked forward to a middle school graduation speech more than when I know he is speaking. This man can entertain! We are so very lucky to have him in Munster!

I first met Mr. Torres when he was the assistant principal at Frank Hammond Elementary School when he joined the School Town of Munster. Mr. Torres is like everyone’s personal cheerleader, and I mean everyone! His first priority is the students but he has that special gift to give parents the same positive experience. I was excited for my son to go Wilbur Wright Middle School, because I knew that he was going into a positive environment with a leader who would be there to ensure he had a smooth transition. I only wish I could get him to come to my home and deliver that energy when Martin’s alarm goes off. Mr. Torres has definitely been a “Life Changer ” in the School Town of Munster. He is more than deserving to be recognized as Life Changer of the Year!

In her speech, she expressed her gratitude for Mr. Torres and commented on how he knows every student's name. This is a profound statement from a student. When he first started at Wilbur Wright he took the time to make sure he knew everybody by name and interacted with them as well. I am in charge of the school’s attendance and Victor handles attendance related issues with professionalism as well as compassion with the students. I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad experience with Mr. Torres. He worked at my elementary school as well as the middle school I currently attend. I was so scared going into middle school but he gave me courage and reassurance which has gotten me to where I am now. Mr. Torres is a vital part of Wilbur Wright Middle School as an assistant principal. He is friendly in the hallways to students and staff and has a jovial way of engaging with everyone to make them feel apart of the WWMS family. As a permanent substitute teacher, he has my back in regards to discipline when needed with students. I have had the honor of getting to know Mr. Torres as a coworker and as a parent. He was first hired as the assistant principal at Frank Hammond Elementary School when he joined the School Town of Munster family. As his coworker, I saw first hand the impact he has on the students as well as the positive morale on the staff.
When he was hired as the assistant principal of Wilbur Wright Middle School, I knew how much of a positive impact he would have on the students who could potentially be going through some of their most difficult and awkward years. He has created a warm, comfortable, and welcoming environment.
Life changer of the year is the perfect title for Mr. Torres. He goes out of his way to make individual connections with kids, learning their names and getting to know something unique about them. He seems to support the students outside of school; popping into extra curricular meetings, sports games, concerts, and dance competitions which are outside his typical hours.
He has personally connected with both of my kids. When my son was in 4th grade he wanted to learn how to play the guitar and knew Mr. Torres played the guitar in a band. They talked all about it. Mr. Torres helped us decide which guitar to purchase and even gave him his first official lesson. Since then he has continued his connection with my son who now gets to see him as a 6th grader at WWMS.
Mr. Torres exemplifies all the characters of a Life Changer of the year. He is the perfect person to have as a middle school assistant principal. The School Town of Munster, especially the students, are lucky to have him!
Mr. Torres transformed school spirit his first semester at Wilbur Wright Middle School in 2022 by launching the school's first Hour of Awesomeness, celebrating students who had demonstrated good behavior the entire semester. The first semester, more than 450 students out of 800 were honored; by the end of the year, 750 were honored. Today, this tradition, which includes treats, game rooms, all-assembly games in the gym, movie time and more, is offered once a quarter. Student behavior is better, and the kids love it. We're grateful for the life-changing ideas he brings to Wilbur Wright!
I am one of the teachers at WWMS. We are SO beyond lucky to have Victor as our assistant principal! He genuinely cares about everyone at WWMS and is so bubbly, friendly, and helpful. He brightens up so many lives daily when roaming the halls of WWMS. Definitely deserves this nomination!!!
