Kay Branch was nominated by her daughter, Kristen Belmonte.
Ms. Branch has been teaching and counseling in Irving ISD for 50 years, spending 27 years as a teacher and 23 years as a counselor. She has most likely touched the lives of over 10,000 students in those 50 years, and if she has touched their lives, she has touched the lives of their parents as well. She has spent most of her career at Bowie Middle School, although she worked at Nimitz High School before her daughter was born.
The things that Ms. Branch does to go above and beyond what is required of her are amazing! She is part of the eighth grade team, and they raise money for a picnic and dance every year by working concessions at basketball and soccer games. She does all of the shopping for the concession stand and oversees it at every game. While other teachers help, Ms. Branch runs the stand so younger teachers can be home with their young children.
"We cannot go anywhere in Irving, at anytime, without running into someone whose life my mom has impacted," said Belmonte. "They always stop her and remind her of the past. When students or teachers leave Bowie to the hospital, my mom goes with them. She feels it's important to make sure they're with someone until family members arrive. I am not sure how many other counselors do this, but I know it means a lot to those who have been personally touched by it."
A few years ago, a student at Bowie tragically passed away. The principal at the time felt Bowie needed to establish a scholarship in his memory. Ms. Branch took this idea and ran with it. As of today, Bowie has given 7 scholarships to former students when they graduate. These scholarships are all endowed, meaning the faculty has given at least $20,000 to each scholarship - more than $140,000 total, which is no small feat for a faculty of less than 100. If not another penny was given to them, they would each still award a $1000 scholarhip forever. Ms. Branch's passion for these scholarships is contagious, and she is so excited about them.
"I often hear people say, 'if you want it done, just tell Kay and she will get right on it,' said Belmonte. "Last year, she organized the most amazing Veterans Day program. About 50 veterans ranging from WWII to the Iraq War participated. There were even two Purple Heart recipients. High School ROTC units participated, and the Bowie choir and band played and sang patriotic songs. The veteran's stories were told. There were 1000 kids in the gym, but it was silent. Such respect for others had never been seen at Bowie. What a great thing my mom organized--all because it was 'suggested' they have a Veteran's Day program."
"I do not know anyone more deserving of being called a LifeChanger than my mom, Kay Branch," said Belmonte. "She has been changing lives in the Irving ISD for 50 years. Generations of families have been touched by her. I am proud to call her my mom. She is one of a kind, a diamond in the rough and she will be missed when she retires from the Irving ISD."

Watch out, Energizer Bunny! Kay Branch has more energy and passion for students than anyone that I have ever met. Since I met her 16 years ago, she has followed through on individuals and families of students and staff members when they are in the hospital or grieving the death of a loved one. She is a great listener and confidant. She combines effective action with her words whenever she is aware of a need in our school with student programs and within the community. She is Bowie's #1 fan and MVP.
I am thankful that she is my friend. She truly is a kind, special woman.
I have been fortunate enough to work with Kay Branch for 21 years. I don't know how this school would run without her - she's one of the main reasons I've stayed at the same campus for my entire career. I honestly don't know how she is able to stay so organized in he role as counselor and then go on to do so much volunteer work after the school day. I would be exhausted! Kay will help you with anything - she's always available. Kay has helped me become a better teacher to my students. She gives me advice and has encouraged me on the few occasions that I've felt like leaving education. Kay is not simply a "colleague"; she's a friend. When I was in the hospital, she came to visit me. When I lost my grandfather and grandmother, Kay was there for me...and she does the same for ALL of us at Bowie. I remember when Kay taught me how to run our concession stand to help raise money for our drama club, and then, she spent her time making the food since I was teaching until the end of the day. She thinks of everything! She truly is a "wonder woman" in my eyes and of those who know her. She holds a special place in my heart and, honestly, in the hearts of hundreds of others' lives that she has touched. She has the biggest heart. NO ONE is more deserving of this award than Kay Branch!
As Tina Turner sings in one of her tunes, Kay is “simply the best”. She cares about the students while they are at Bowie and even after going on to high school and upon graduating. She is involved in so many aspects of school life that go beyond her counselor’s office door. She is an avid supporter of all of the athletic teams as well as other elective groups. I have worked with her throughout the years at ballgames and she is the consummate professional whether refereeing or working at the score table. Kay has had a positive influence on thousands of young people and adult colleagues throughout her career. She is definitely deserving of “Lifechanger” status.
Grandma Branch would be an asset to any campus, but here at Bowie she is thee Cub of all Cubs.
I have worked with Kay since 1991 and can easily say that Kay is the heart and soul of what makes Bowie MS the great school that it is...I would not have worked and stayed at Bowie so long if not for good people like KAY BRANCH. She is solid gold man !

Kay was one of the first people to befriend me when I joined the Bowie Nation. She goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome at Bowie. She knows each and every child from her 50 years here and genuinely cares about each and every one of them.
Probably too late but just saw this about Ms Branch. What an awesome lady!! She did something for me and another student our senior year that I will never forget. Kay Branch has been devoted to the students of Irving ISD for 50 years. She has influenced them in the classroom, as a counselor, and, through her work as a member of the Irving Schools Foundation, by providing scholarships for hundreds of students by helping to raise funds for those scholarships. She is truly a lifeChanger in the truest sense. She would represent your organization well.
There is NO ONE more deserving of the Life Changer Award than Kay Branch! I started teaching English at Bowie Jr High in 1990 when Kay was still teaching history. It was my first teaching job. I was scared, unsure...so young and had no clue. She and I had the same off period. After about a month of school, she showed up at my classroom door, saying we were going to breakfast. During that meal, she listened to my fears, and she imparted knowledge she had gained in her many years of teaching. That’s who she was...She saw someone who was struggling and she JUMPED into help! When she became our counselor, she was my go-to person for all the things. If I needed any help with something I was planning for our team, she was there. If I needed a hug or a listening ear, she was there. My life has definitely been better because Kay Branch was a part of it. I really do not believe I would have been as successful in my teaching career if it had not been for That Breakfast all those years ago. Thank you, Kay for changing my life. I love you and am blessed to call you my friend. Well done, Good and Faithful Servant!
Kay Branch as my History teacher over 40 years ago is still as caring and involved now as she was then. She truly cares about people and supports her students, who then turn into friends after graduation. She is a very thoughtful person who takes a genuine interest in her students, school and community. She is one of a kind and so grateful I have had an opportunity to be her student and her friend. She is a loving parent, grandparent and great grand as well who is very involved in her families lives. She is a super woman to me. Someday I hope I can be as inspiring as she.

When collaborating with Kay as an Assistant Principal at Bowie, there was never a moment that I had to question that the job was not going to be completed with the utmost attention to detail. I had three daughters go thru Bowie Middle School and it was such a great experience for all three. The teachers and faculty were the main reason for this positive time and Kay Branch was one of those amazing teachers who also became a wonderful friend who has supported my daughters through out their lives. I can't say enough about Kay who always has a smile and positive outlook for all. She has dedicated 50 years to teaching, mentoring and supporting thousands of students, friends and faculty in whatever was needed. Kay's guidance and encouragement has helped me and so many throughout the years. She is always available to give advice or just be a listening ear. It is an honor to know and to have worked with Kay. As the Community Outreach Manager for the community hospital I worked with Kay on numerous projects benefiting the students of Bowie Middle School for over 18 years. My favorite program and the one that meant the most to me (and I believe was one of Kay’s favorites too) was the Bowie Christmas Angel program. Each year Kay would identify needy students who would not receive any gifts for Christmas if it had not been for a hospital angel who adopted them and purchased gifts. The program grew from not only these students but to whole families, when hospital departments wanted to do more, and gifts for the entire family were delivered the day before Christmas to the family’s homes. Kay is one of God’s angels here on earth who watches over each and every student at Bowie Middle School, and who blesses the life of all those that have the privilege of knowing her.
I was a student in 1972, when Ms. Branch was a teacher at Nimitiz High School. She was a dynamic teacher and always had a passion for helping students to do their best. She instilled in not only the importance of education but also to be a good citizen in our community and to do something to make a difference. I now serve on the school board in Irving, and have for the past six years. Ms. Branch is now the counselor at Bowie middle school and I have not met another educator who has more love and passion for changing kids lives than her. She still has the same enthusiasm and passion that I saw as a student 46 years ago. She is a remarkable educator and definitely made a difference in my life.
Congratulations Kay on your nomination for Life Changer of the Year Award. It has been a pleasure to work with you for the past 20 years, me at Nimitz and you at Bowie. You are one of the the most dedicated, sincere, and hardworking educators I know. You give 110% day after day and year after year. Many things have changed in Irving ISD, but one thing that hasn't is your love and compassion for your students and desire to see all of them receive the best education they can. You wear many hats - counselor, teacher, mentor, confidant, role model, school and community liaison, cheerleader, and parent. Whatever your students need, you are there to provide it and if you don't have it you'll find a way. Your students and fellow counselors will always remember the impact you had on their lives.

Kay has been a phenomenal mentor and friend to me for the last 7 years. She has been the go to when my co counselor have needed assistance, guidance, or just an ear to listen. We can always count on Kay to speak her mind and do right by the kids and the adults that she serves. I cannot think of a more deserving person to receive the LifeChanger award as she has been integral on making a difference in the lives of so many.
Kay is a LifeChanger because she works diligently to impact students and families in her school and community. She has dedicated her life to shaping the future of students. She has a gentle strength and a bold presence that is reflective of her advocacy for students. I joined Irving ISD in 2002. Kay was my mentor and fellow counselor at Bowie MS this year. She taught me counseling skills that I still use to this day. I can still go to her for advice and she is my #1 reference when I applied to all the jobs I've had in Irving ISD- Bowie MS, Elliott ES, Bowie MS (again), Student Reassignment Center, and Singley Academy. She is an advocate for students and works well with parents and staff for student success. I am fortunate to have her in my life as a colleague and friend. I'm so proud of all she has done for our IISD students.

Kay has been a counselor mentor for me for twenty years. She is always kind, thoughtful and careful to respond to others in a way that keeps communication open. She has compassion for all students as well as faculty and has the ability to convey to each person she meets that they matter. I have known Ms.Branch for 2 years going to 3 years now and I know that she is a heart warming counselor because she is just amazing. She cares about everybody and I know she has inspired me to become a better person. I know she is the BEST COUNSELOR. We were talked about suicid and many other things but she really caught me when she said that she went to the hospital with one kid and she stayed there with him for many hours. I am currently a 7th grader at Bowie Middle School. Although she is not my specific counselor, she has impacted the whole school in huge ways. She has spread awareness on severe manners and has encouraged many kids to continue with their life in hopes of achieving something. Mrs. Branch is like the mother of our Bowie Family.

Ms. Branch cares so much for all students! When each of my boys attended Bowie Middle School, it didn’t matter if she was their counselor for their grade level or not, she was there for them. My oldest son had walking pneumonia during STAAR testing one of his years there. He absolutely did not want to miss school and make up the tests later in the week. Ms. Branch worked with us so he could take the tests and go home as soon as he finished, each day he had one. For my younger son, she counseled him through the tough adjustment of big brother going off to college, his mom (me!) going into full-time/overtime work, and a grandfather who fell ill and needed more care than we expected. She was a supportive role even though she had so many other students with varying needs. She juggles not only her job, but other departments at school that have a need for support as well. She is energetic, kind, and at-the-ready at a moments notice. Our family is grateful to have crossed paths with such a remarkable woman. No doubt she IS a lifechanger to many.

Fast forward 48 years. I had the tremendous joy to reunite with my favorite teacher in my home in Bali Indonesia. She was unchanged....adventurous and energetic....the same Kay Branch of 5 decades ago.
Kay Branch is a life changer....I am an avid history buff thanks to this remarkable woman!
She was my 8th grade history teacher and was awesome! Later she was a counselor at my oldest son’s time in same middle school.
Kay Branch was my favorite teacher at Nimitz High School. She was my American history teacher and I very clearly remember a project she assigned. This class was in 1970 and the assignment required each of us to find someone born in the previous century and interview them. At the time of the assignment I moaned along with my classmates but after spending time with my interviewee, I suddenly had such a new respect for the generations before me and all the contributions they had made to improve life as we know it. I loved that Ms. Branch did not lecture us but posed questions to make us think and to pose questions of our own! I loved her class so much that I later took her Texas history class as an elective just because I loved her teaching style, I had come to love history and because I felt loved by a teacher! That was an amazing feeling to feel cared about since I wasn’t one of the smart kids or one of the popular kids or one of the attractive kids. Plain old dull me was cared about and this made such an impact on me that I never forgot the importance of developing positive relationships with students when I became a teacher!
Years later after teaching I moved into administration and was assigned a principalship at a feeder school to the middle school that Ms. Branch served as a counselor. It was so wonderful to work directly with her in the transition of my elementary students into her middle school. I knew that she would take my concerns for particular students to heart and would be there with a safety net to keep them from failing in 6th grade.
Ms. Branch exudes the characteristics of a giver! She sacrifices so much for the success of others and over the last 50 years as an employee of the Irving ISD, students have flourished because of her dedication to their success. To say she is a life changer is an understatement. Kay Branch is a life enricher!
Although Kay Branch was never my teacher, she always held my utmost respect. She was my 8th grade councilor, but I had a connection with Ms. Branch the first year I stepped into Bowie Middle School, and we seemed to always maintain that relationship all the way through the time I left Bowie for Nimitz. What I had always admired about her personality was that she knew how to buckle down and get what need to be done done, but she also knew how to sit back and just listen to someone talk. She was intentional in her listening and was pacient with everyone. That’s a gift that very little people have; the ability to be an ambitious worker AND have the patience to stop and have a meaning conversation with someone. She helped me through some tough times, but also encouraged me through the good times. She was always willing to help me dream and reason about all of the silly middle school ideas I had. Can’t thank her enough!
Kay Branch is an extremely phenomenal teacher and friend!!! When I was a Senior in High School she was my teacher and sponsored the Future Teachers of America. SHE is the reason I am a teacher today! She has always been devoted to her students and shown each of them love and care. I try to emulate her every day in my classroom. Now, she is my friend and neighbor and I am so blessed to her around!!
Kay is one of the hardest working educators I have ever met. She has such a passion for what she does and the children that she serves. Kay takes her job very seriously and truly believes that each of her students have an opportunity to succeed. She works so hard to ensure that they have everything they need inside and out of the classroom. Additionally, Kay has worked so hard to endow scholarships on her campus that will allow her students the opportunity to earn a college degree. In addition to supporting her students, Kay has been an advocate for her teachers on her campus. She is there to listen to them and she does special events and activities to show them her appreciation. Kay volunteers her time with the Irving Schools Foundation in her free time by helping us at our events and by raising money for scholarships and grants. I can't think of anyone else more deserving of this honor.
What can I say about Mrs. Branch that no one had said? All I can say is that I am extremely grateful for all the things she has done for our students, myself and my family. She carries on so many hats that motivate us everyday to do our best for our students and for ourselves. I will forever be thankful to God for putting Mrs. Branch as my guiding angle. For these and many other reasons, I believe that Mrs. Branch should be awarded with the Life Changer Award for being an active life changer of our community, students, teachers and more!! Love you and will miss you Mrs. Branch!!!!

I have known Kay since my student days at Nimitz 1968-1972. My wife taught with her year's later at NHS. Still later my daughter taught at Bowie while she was a counselor. So as a family we have known Kay as a teacher, co teacher, counselor and as a friend. I consider myself lucky to have known her all these years.
I have known Kay Branch since 1973 when I was in high school. She sponsored the Future Teachers of America for Nimitz High School where she was a much beloved History teacher. The lives she has touched is enormous including how she played a part in me becoming a teacher 45 years later!!! All of the alumni of Nimitz High School adore her.
Kay has been such an inspiration to all of us in Irving especially those of us who are counselors. She shares her experience and helps each of us strive to do more for our students and community. She is very deserving of this award as shown in her many years of service.
I have lived in Irving all my life and I am the youngest of 10 siblings. All my brothers and sisters had Ms. Branch as our counselor and it has been an honor having her guide every single one of us to the road of success. I met Kay 21 yrs ago when I moved from a little town in KS to teach/coach in TX. Kay reffed our games and was always available for any questions I had about coaching, teaching, the town of Irving, etc. She was a mentor I looked up to and she introduced me to so many people and made me feel very welcome. I wouldn't even be able to count the number of times I have seen, and still see, Kay volunteering at games or just there to support her students and/or former students. I consider her a close friend now, whom I treasure very much. I don't know of anyone who would be more deserving of this award. She has touched so many lives...teachers, coaches, students, parents, her family, etc. and I know she will continue to do so even when she is not at school. Irving ISD was so very lucky to have Kay. She is the perfect candidate as the face of what Irving ISD strives for. She is and always will be a role model that has proven her dedication to the world of education.
Whenever I walk the halls at Bowie Middle School, it is common to see Kay Branch greeting others with a smile on her face. It is obvious she loves her job and is committed to our students and staff. Ms. Branch taught my favorite subject, Texas History. She has a no nonsense yet always fun way about her teaching and always found a way to keep the subject interesting. That class hold some on my fondest memories. You did her profession proud as I am certain still today. Best of luck and well wishes for your retirement.
I first met Kay Branch 40 years ago while working at Bowie Middle School; we worked together there for many years. During that time, she was a counselor and before that we were both classroom teachers at Bowie. When she was an American History teacher, I was the Deaf Education teacher. This was prior to closed captioned TV or movies or inclusion services. I was able to order educational movies from Captioned Films for the Deaf. Kay fervently invited my class to join her class to see films that matched the concepts she and I were each teaching. I came in and interpreted the films in sign language. When she learned I could check out many of these same films in an open captioned format the mail, she examined her curriculum for the whole year and my catalog of available films. She then scheduled the films for the entire year so that my students could be included with her 8th graders and experience the films without an interpreter sitting next to the film screen. Our classes shared this time together for numerous years. This is but one example of how Kay Branch has always gone above and beyond to do what is best for Bowie students, whether hearing or deaf. Kay deserves this award for this all her heart and hard work!
I have had the opportunity to serve with Kay Branch on the board of the Irving School Foundation the last two years. I have volunteered with her and have witnessed the impact that she has not only for the students at Bowie Middle School where she is counselor, but also the faculty and staff. Lives will be forever changed because of the positive influence of this lady.
Kay is a real difference maker in the Irving school district. I work with her for the Irving Schools Foundation (ISF) and have seen her passion for the kids in Irving to make sure they have what they need to be successful in school and in life. She is always there after hours and weekends helping out and leading the charge with the teams and working with many committees to drive successful programs, providing grants to teachers for their needs and scholarships for the students. I know she has been a difference maker for 50 years, directly with the students as a teacher and counselor, but adding the tireless work she does behind the scenes with ISF for the kids and teachers is what truly makes her a most deserving LifeChanger of the Year recipient!

I had the privilege to have Kay Branch as a History teacher in middle school. She was my favorite teacher of all. I now have the opportunity to work with her on the Irving School Foundation Board. She is one of the most dedicated teacher/counselors you will ever meet. She goes above and beyond for her "KIDS".
I first met Kay Branch when I was a student at Nimitz High School in 1975. She was a fixture at NHS activities, serving as sponsor, adviser, instructor and mentor. Kay has a huge heart and always goes out of her way to make the young people with whom she works feel like they are special and that they matter. I have known Kay Branch my entire teaching career, and I wholeheartedly agree that she should receive the Lifechanger of the Year award. I am honored to say that I have shared 34 of Kay’s 50 years as an educator while teaching at Bowie Middle School. Throughout the years, I have seen the amazing work that Kay has done as a teacher, mentor, and counselor. KB, as I call her, has a heart the size of the Grand Canyon, and she demonstrates that by going way beyond the call of duty to serve the needs of not only the students but also the faculty. No matter the time of day or how busy she may be, Kay always makes time to lend a listening ear and give encouraging words to anyone in need. My husband, daughter, son, and I consider KB as family because she has been there for all the major events In my life thus far, and she has always been genuine, loving, and kind to my family. I taught at Bowie for 37 years before retiring eight years ago. Kay was there when I began and going to make that 50 year mark this year. She is a friend and mentor to every adult who is or has been at Bowie. She is a counselor dedicated to helping all students, even after they have left Bowie. I can think of no one more deserving of the Lifechanger of the Year Award.

I met Kay Branch while serving together on the Irving School Foundation Board. An easy person to know, Kay's friendly disposition helps all who meet her, feel instantly liked and valued. Kay is a life changer, not just at work, but in all she does for others.
I have only known Kay a short time, being a brand new teacher this year. The first time I met Kay was mere coincidence in the administration building before I had even begun at Bowie. She welcomed me heartily and warmly to the team and told me I would be just fine during the upcoming year! Kay, a woman who I had barely met, offered me sincere comfort that touched my heart instantly. From what I've seen, this is just the kind of person she is. Our school will suffer a great loss upon her retirement, but the legacy she will leave behind is beyond incredible and important to our school's community, and that is surely something for which she should be honored (in addition to the probably tens of thousands of contributions she has made throughout her 50 year career!) Kay Branch is a life changer in the truest sense of the term.
Kay has always been very involved in the school community, with youth, and with family and friends. She cherishes her relationships and understands the importance of making those connections with others, which I truly believe is the frame work for any individual that is a true life changer.
I remember as a young girl growing up seeing her out at the softball field. I played fast pitch softball and my first direct experiences were at the park with her as an umpire. I knew her from school sports , as well, but I always remember thinking, “When does she sleep?” :). I felt like I would see her everywhere. Whether it was at a school event, at the softball field, or in the community, Kay was seen. I never had her as a teacher or counselor but I can only imagine how dynamic she was/is because now as a colleague and friend she enriches my life.
She is a deserving candidate for this honor for sure.

I have known Kay for almost fifty years as I was privileged to work with her for about 20 years before I retired 22 years, ago while I was a teacher and then counselor at Bowie Middle School in Irving, Texas. Kay was a go-getter then. She was especially helpful in preparing the program for our National Junior Honor Society awards assembly every year. I am so excited to know that Kay is being considered for this award. She is one who definitely has a love for the students and parents that need help. When I worked with Kay, I discovered that you don't even have to ask her to do anything--just mention the idea or suggest that perhaps something should/could be done and you might as well consider it done. From being a literal life-saver and changer for our 8th graders to keeping teacher morale up with her counselor happy day lunches, nothing stops Kay from bringing joy to everyone around her. For many of our students, college wouldn't be a possibility without financial support and Kay has made it her mission to help our kiddos be successful. Wow! What an Amazing Honor. I have worked with Kay as a 6th/7th grade counselor at Bowie for the past 5 years. I am most impressed with her tenacity and resilience. Kay has truly left her mark on Bowie as well as touched the lives of so many. There will be no one to replace Kay Branch, but we will keep up the many traditions she has put her heart and soul into at Bowie.
I am a recent teacher retiree from Irving ISD. I currently serve with Kay Branch on the Board of Directors for the Irving Schools Foundation. Just the fact that she is so highly involved in a wonderful foundation like ours says a lot in itself. This organization exists to help the teachers and students of our district. But, her support goes way beyond the typical board member. Not only does Kay serve on the Programs Committee which awards all grants and scholarships - involvement that involves many volunteer hours of commitment and work, but she is very involved in our payroll deduction campaign leading her own campus year after year in 100% participation! This is an incredible feat. This year, she started the school year with a news team following her into the school because it was her 50th first day of school in our district!
I met Kay when I was a teacher. I presented to the Programs Committee for a grant my last year as a teacher. She was one of the people who heard my presentation and were responsible for awarding me a grant that provided awesome prizes to students for an essay contest. These student essays were published on our radio station, produced by my Advanced AV Production students. We touched the lives of many students that year with this contest, encouraging them in their writing skills and awarding them with iPads and other great prizes. She makes decisions that affect lives.
Kay is a humble and quiet person. She does not boast of her achievements, but just works hard and keeps on working, doing more than her share of pretty much everything. I am a big Kay Branch fan. She is more than deserving of this incredible award; I cannot think of another educator more deserving. She is truly one of a kind - one who cares - one who inspires - one who encourages and supports. Our district has been very blessed for 50 years by the positive influence, dedication and commitment of Kay Branch. I think we will refer to her years of service to our district as legendary. There is no one like her.

I've been a member of the Bowie family for 5 years now and one of the first things I learned about Bowie is that Kay Branch is where Bowie starts and where it ends. Everything that goes on at Bowie has had Kay's hands nurture it in one way or another. 50 years speaks for itself but there is more to being a LIFECHANGER than longevity. Making an impact is all about giving of yourself and Kay has not only given of herself tirelessly but she's left a blueprint for all of us to carry on her tradition of giving when the next chapter of her life begins. That is the true sign of a LIFECHANGER!
I attended Bowie Middle School as a student and later returned as a teacher. I have had the unique privilege of knowing Ms. Branch as a teacher and coworker. She is one of the reasons I chose to become a teacher. She cared so much about my success and it left a lasting impression. She made me a better student and a better educator.

This is the 14th year I have worked with Kay. I have never met anyone so dedicated and hardworking as Kay. I have had the honor of working closely with Kay while planning the AP Spanish exam every year. She is so incredibly organized with the procedures for that day that I hardly have to do anything. She is not only here for the kids but for the staff. I call her my work mom because she treats me like a daughter and is always there for me whether its work related or personal. I couldn't have gotten through my days without her especially a couple of years ago when I was going through a stressful time while pregnant with my son, who is now two and she took care of me like she does for so many people at Bowie. She hosted the most beautiful shower for me with the help of other wonderful teachers. It is her loving spirit that has endeared Kay to many over the past 50 years. She truly is a Life Changer!
Kay Branch is the glue that holds Bowie Middle School together. She works tirelessly for our students, and she has always been available whenever I have needed even the smallest of favor or advice. Every campus needs a Kay Branch, and I am blessed to have worked with her here at Bowie!

This ministry In our school we call it SUNSHINE, it aims to recognize with a present those of the school family who are going through a time of illness, tragedy or need ... My family and I have been blessed by this ministry when my wife was taking her treatments for cancer ... Kay is the engine behind that machinery, she care always checking on others. You can always count on her for what you need, if you ask for her help she will do it with genuine willingness. That's why I think she deserves to receive this distinguished distinction. I Love her
Kay has been such a pillar to our school and our district. I was thrilled when I learned she was nominated and could not think of a better person to represent our community. She is a beacon of hope to our students providing comfort and guidance in sometimes uncomfortable situations. In every case, Kay goes the extra mile placing other peoples' needs first. She has been such an inspiration too so many students, past and present faculty members, and the overall community. She is always the first to take care of what needs to be taken care of. Kay Branch is what every educator should aspire of becoming. I want to say from a personal standpoint that I am a better teacher and a much better person for everything she has done for me. I owe her so much and I will miss her tremendously.
Kay Branch has been a model educator and outstanding influencer to many students and peers over her career as an educator. Her friendly demeanor and caring personality draw people close. Kay Branch is a PILAR here at Bowie Middle School. She makes this campus run smoothly and is quick to fix any problems that arise. She helps out in the concession stand throughout the year in order to provide food and party items for the 8th grade dance every year. Kay is often at school on the weekends taking care of her own "to-do-list". She is a LIFE CHANGER for all of us on campus. She shares her wisdom, she shares her shoulder to cry on and her ear to listen. She is irreplacable and very deserving of this award!
I have worked in the office for 3 years. Kay is a tireless worker, and has dedicated her life to the students, faculty and community of Bowie Middle School. Kay not only is a LifeChanger, but is a whole community changer for what she has accomplished in her time here!!!
Kay is amazing! I've know her for 5 years and worked as a counselor with her for 3 at Bowie. She is so active in the community and its wonderful to watch the lives she has touched. She deserves to be recognized for all her hard work during her 50 years at Irving.
I have known Kay for about 20 years. I met her while she was reffing volleyball games when I coached at Travis before I came to Bowie. She was one of the very best refs we have had. She was knowledgeable about the game, and she was one of the most fair people we came across. After I transferred to Bowie, I got to know her and her family as family - all of which are amazing people. Bowie's family environment stems from the likes of people like Kay Branch. The morning monthly get-together breakfasts, the faculty lunches, the counselor happy times, the sunshine committee, ISF, our GT programs, our supporting of the nursing homes, our observance of the veterans day and memorial days, secret santa, and numerous other occasions and programs....all of those programs thrived at our school because she was so passionate about them and shared the opportunity and information about them with us so that we could learn together, support each other, grow together, and be there for each other while celebrating together and grieving together. That has been one of the things that has always made Bowie so successful. She is an advocate and champion for all students and their individual needs and passions. She always supports our athletic program, our teachers, our students, our families, our community, and she asks for nothing in return. I know she visits everyone in the hospital and spends time with them letting them know she cares. She has talked with students, parents, and teachers who were at their wits end, and she made a positive impression on what they should do next. She is a true gem and has obviously had a great impact on all of the people who have come through Bowie and other places she has worked. I have gotten to work with her family, and each of them radiate with the glow that Kay has embedded in their unique persons. It has been amazing getting to know and to work with this dynamic individual. She is a great candidate for such an amazing opportunity and public recognition. She is truly a life changer, and she will continue to be that just because that is her character. Kudos to Kay for all she has accomplished in these 50 years of service...and for the 15-20 years I have been blessed by knowing her and working with her. Not everyone is blessed with the passion, desire, dedication, and heart that she embodies. I can't even imagine the amount of peoples lives that she has affected in such a positive way. I know I very dearly love her, as I'm sure most who have met her do.

I have never met a person who cares more about students and teachers than Kay. I came to Bowie 6 years ago. I still remember the day I met her. She greeted me with a smile that was genuine. I knew she was there for the students and their best interests. We all know she is an outstanding counselor, she is an even better person outside of her job. She is always asking about how my family is doing. She came up and saw us in the hospital when my wife had multiple surgeries. She came up to the hospital when my daughter was born. She has listened to my personal problems when I knew she had other stuff she needed to be doing. She has always made me feel welcome. She will definitely be missed next year. I know I am being selfish but I do not want her to leave. It will not be the same. I love Kay like a 2nd mom.
There is not enough room to talk about all of the wonderful things Kay Branch does for our campus. She is the mother of Bowie Middle School. She takes care of us all and is always willing to listen whenever you need to talk. One of my colleagues fell critically ill several years ago and Kay Branch took charge of having fundraisers and running back and forth to the hospital as well as communicating with the family who all lived in Michigan This example is just a sample of all the love and hard work she does for our staff not to mention our students. . One day Ms. Branch sent a student to the library to do her work. The student expressed to me her gratitude for Ms. Branch helping her cope with her anxiety and this student told me she could not have made it through middle school were it not for Kay Branch. I know this to be true for many of our students. Kay Branch so deserves this award. She has made a difference to our school and definitely has been a life changer for us all.
I have had the absolute pleasure to work with Kay for the past 12 years. I could not have survived without her. Not only, does she do the work of about 15 people, but she has been an absolute rock. I have been teaching AVID for the last four years, and I can honestly say she has been my biggest supporter and has single handedly been responsible for ensuring we are as highly certified as possible. She will go out of her way to make sure everything run. smoothly (I have no idea how we will live without her next year). Kay has been there for every single birth, wedding, surgery, loss or any other major event showering all of us with her rays of "sunshine" (sunshine fund). Kay, I really hope you know how lucky I am to have you as a colleague and friend (literally tearing up writing this). I cannot think of a single more deserving person than you!

Kay has been an amazing mentor to me for the past 6 years since I made the transition from teacher to counselor. I learned so much from the counseling program I attended, but that experience does not hold a candle to the wealth of knowledge and support that Kay has shown me. My counseling partner and I joke all the time about having a hotline to Kay's office to get her input about counseling activities and/or ways to work with a situation that we have never dealt with before. Kay is most definitely one of the strongest counselors I have the privilege to work with and I truly appreciate her!

I have enjoyed working with Kay Branch in the office for the last 8 years. She has not only been there for students. But for the staff too she was there for me when I needed someone to be with me in the hospital letting me know I was going to be fine. I will truly miss her more than works can say. Kay is a great person and role model professionally and personally! When I was a new teacher Kay was a wonderful support in and out of the classroom!
I am not surprised that Kay is nominated or the Lifechanger of the Year award. I've known her for 20 years, and I'm proud to call her a mentor and a friend. When I entered teaching 20 years ago, Kay was always there with advice and a shoulder to lean on after a tough day. Not much has changed in 20 years! As we worked along side each other as assistant principal and counselor to the 8th grade class, Kay was always ready to help, dropping into my office with a smile and asking, "What can I do?" She never shies away from a challenge and is always up for fun. Kay loves her students, but cares just as much for her staff. I often refer to her as the HEART of Bowie because that is exactly what she is to the school. Her commitment to looking out for the teachers with gestures such as "counselor happy days" which provide staff with lunch and an opportunity to eat together changes the relationship of co-workers from simple colleagues to family. Kay is an integral reason that Bowie is special place to work. Kay IS a lifechanger. I know, because she has changed my life for the better.
Kay is a HARD worker and takes pride in her work. Her job never stops when the bell rings. She always finds ways to make an impact in our school district.

Kay Branch was the 8th grade counselor at Bowie Midde School when I was a student there. I first met her as a student, and four years ago Bowie opened their doors once again for me to come back as a teacher. She was one of the first faces I saw walking in to my interview and one of the biggest hugs I received that day. From day one as a teacher she has always been a strong support to me. She alway has an open door for anyone that needs a shoulder to lean on, or seat to cry on. Kay Branch represents so much that is amazing at Bowie to the students, but also to the staff.
I have the honor of serving on the Irving Schools Foundation alongside Kay and it’s been a real honor getting to know her. Her kindness is infectious and I can’t think of a better person to be nominated for this!
I have worked with Kay for 12 years. She is a tireless worker and advocate for teachers and students. When you need something done, you go to Kay. She deserves this award so much. FIFTY YEARS!

Such a life time of dedication to the students
Kay is the best!!! I have worked alongside Ms. Branch with Bowie 8th graders for 15 years now. I have watched as she has prepared hundreds of 8th graders for high school, taken care of teachers with "Counselor Happy Time," organized countless campus events, rooted for the home team as a Bowie and Nimitz super fan, and taught the younger generations the joy of community service. However, they say you never really know a person until you travel with them. Well, a couple of years ago, I had that opportunity as well. One night Kay, myself, and another teacher were working the concession stand at a soccer game, and the next thing you know, we had purchased tickets to Bali. That Thanksgiving Break we packed up and went half way around the world together. I was inspired by her open-mindedness, her sense of adventure, her energy, and her warmth. Many people asked if we were traveling with our grandmother, to which Kay would respond, "Yep." It is this loving spirit that has endeared Kay to many over the past 50 years. In fact, our host in Bali was one of her former students. Hearing him tell stories about her as a teacher, a mentor, and later a friend, solidified what I had always known; that this lady was one of a kind. She has a special place in my heart. She is the reason that I am currently in grad school to become a school counselor. I will never be able to fill her shoes, but I would be honored to continue in her footsteps.
Kay was the 8th grade counselor when both of my children went through Bowie Middle School. With all the students in school, she knew my children by name. At the time, I did not know her but she knew my family. Maybe that is because she started her teaching career with my mother-in-law at Nimitz High School. She helped shepherd my kids through those first teenage years of middle school. Later, I began my teaching career at Bowie; the only school where I wanted to teach because I felt it was home. Kay was not only a counselor but also a volleyball referee, gave her time to monitor the cafeteria at lunch, and led the 8th grade masses on a visit the high school field trip every year. I was there when she started the scholarship in the name of the former Bowie student. You just can't say no to her when she want you to help out. She is also a strong supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness-the faculty all had shirts and we took pictures. With such a big heart, I don't know how it is contained in such a small body.
I have only known Kay for the past couple of years and what a great person she is. She is definitely here for the kids and what a privilege it is to know her. She will be a great recipient for this award!
KB is the bestest of the best....an amazing person who others should aspire to.
"KB", as I call her (Kay Branch), is the GLUE that holds Bowie MS together...and she has been doing her wonderful, caring, motivational, leadership and professional job for many, many years......her love and devotion for Bowie students goes beyond the classroom as she will work outside the school if needed to assist a troubled youth.....teachers love her because of all she does for them........I do not see and hate to think what it will be around here when she reaches her well-deserved retirement.....KB really really ROCKS !
I have known Kay Branch since 2013. She was the first to greet me when I started with Irving ISD. She is there for me in my hardest times and she is Always there for students in their's. She is a shining example of "putting our students first". I am a better teacher, person and parent because because I know her.

I met Kay Branch just a few months ago in June when I accepted the Principal position at Bowie Middle School. She immediately took me under her wing to get me acquainted with the campus. She worked well into her summer break to allow me to get adjusted and has been eagerly supportive of changes to progress our campus forward while passionately advocating to keep things that has given Bowie the family atmosphere that is so unique to the campus. She is highly respected on this campus and within the school community. Kay leads by example, has a heart as big as Dallas, and values all of the life changing moments that take place in the education profession for students and educators. She loves kids and it shows in actions every day during school hours and long after school hours have expired. After 50 years of service there is not doubt she has been a phenomenal life changer and deserves this once in a life time opportunity to be deemed a Life Changer of the Year.
I've known Kay Branch for 27 years, first as a colleague and then as a friend. As a professional, Kay consistently connects with students and teachers to better the environment for each individual. She is the first one to seek out and welcome people to her campus, making them feel like an important part of the school community. Personally, Kay never turns down the opportunity to help another individual whether it be school-related or something in their personal life. She has been a wonderful role-model and mentor to me, and I treasure her friendship. I don't know of anyone who has had such a positive impact on so many people. Our entire community benefits from the work Kay Branch had done in IISD. The many students, parents, families, teachers and fellow counselors have be touched and helped by the caring and compassion provided by Kay. Years of personal investment in her work and concern for young people in need will continue to be experienced in our town for years.
I've been at Bowie for three years now, and I can confirm that Ms. Branch goes above and beyond every single day. She has changed the lives of many students, and been a constant supporter and cheerleader for Bowie Middle School and Irving ISD. I wish I had more years to work with her, but she sincerely deserves the recognition and well earned retirement.
I first met Kay Branch as a sophomore at Nimitz. She was my history teacher in 1971. At that time I just thought she was a pretty cool teacher never imagining we would become lifelong friends. She would stand in the hallway between classes To make sure everybody’s doing what they were supposed to do and if you weren’t she would let you know it. Standing all of 4 foot 11 she had a mighty powerful presence. During my four years at Nimitz I don’t recall anyone not liking or respecting Ms Branch. As most teenagers do after graduating We go on with our lives really thinking about the past teacher or principal or counselor. However for me it was 10 years later that I met Ms branch again this time on softball field in Hurst Tx. She was playing second base and I had a double I looked at her I thought man she looks familiar finally at the end of the game when we were shaking hands I ask her do you remember me and she smiled and said Donna Schmitz. Later we started playing on the same softball team and we have been friends ever cents. Not only was she my teacher in 1971 but she taught my children when they were at Bowie. Kay has always been Involved in school activities rather it be calling a basketball game or working the concession stand Kay was always supporting the kids. As her daughter Kristen mentioned it was very hard for Kay to go anywhere in Irving and not run into someone she knew either because she taught them or she taught their parent I can recall on numerous occasions when she and I would be out to dinner and a former student would stop to say hello. For the last many years Kay Branch has meant so much to our family. Our two daughters were lucky enough to know Mrs. Branch at Bowie Middle School. She was wonderful to our girls, and even spent her lunch time with one of our daughters who was being bullied by a student. We continued to grow our friendship through sporting activities. She has touched so many others throughout her many years of devoted service to the Irving Independent School District. Our family could never imagine a more deserving winner of this award than Kay Branch.

I don’t know Mrs. Branch personally but I do know of her through my son who has taught at Bowie for several years and has told me about her kindness and concern for her students and for her community. I hope she gets the recognition she so obviously deserves.

No one stays in a teaching career for 50 years for the income, Kay truly teaches for the outcome. I have known Kay for ten years as a golf buddy and friend. As a retired teacher who taught for 34 years, I have immense respect for Kay for being an educator for FIFTY years! She has such a winning personality and clearly a strong devotion to her students and colleagues. It is fun to watch her eyes light up when she talks about her job and her most recent project. If anyone deserves to be recognized as an educator who is a "life-changer", it is certainly Kay Branch.

I have gotten to know Kay Branch over the past 7 years. I began my educational career by student teaching at Bowie Middle School. I fell in love with the family feel of the Bowie staff that I truly believe is there because of people like Kay. Over the years, I have grown closer to Kay as she has helped me to be a better teacher and now counselor. This school year, I began my own journey as a school counselor, and I can only hope that I will impact as many lives as Kay has! She inspires me to go above and beyond each day as I am working with students, teachers, and families. She has a love for PEOPLE, no matter who they are!
