Baba Ahmed was nominated by three colleagues: Kim Hoskin, Katherine Turner, and an additional anonymous colleague.
Mr. Ahmed is one of the most selfless humans one could ever meet! He is always at work early and leaves late.
"I have never seen him in a bad mood, and he loves interacting with the students," said one of his nominators. "Baba continuously strives to motivate them and teach them about being responsible and holds them accountable for their actions. He always welcomes everyone he sees with a big 'Good morning,' or 'Hello.'"
"It's true - once you get to know the school custodian, they will be an asset in your teaching years. He has helped me several times over the year in my science classroom," said Hoskin. "He always helps at that moment and never leaves you hanging."
MacArthur High School's custodial staff is a well oiled machine due to his leadership skills. He interacts with all 2800 students on a daily basis, and in a positive manner. He gets them to class, makes sure they are doing okay, and fist bumps them as they walk by.
"It is easy to find him working hard while encouraging others, regardless of whether they are students, teachers, staff, or even visitors on campus," said Turner. "Baba works tirelessly to keep our campus safe and beautiful for everyone who steps into the building. I cannot imagine our school without him! He deserves every honor for the amazing example he sets for us all."
Baba is such a sweet person. He made my first work day at MacArthur HS a smooth one. He assisted me when I was looking for office furniture and continued to check on me throughout my first year. Every time he saw me in the hall, he would smile and ask how my day was going. He is a hardworking, caring, and dependable person and deserves this and so much more!
Baba is a wonderful person ! Even on his bad days he won't show the bad he'll always have a smile on his face. If Baba thinks someone is down he will talk to them and try to make their day better. Baba is a very helpful person if he thinks you need help he'll lend a hand.
From a former student's point of view; Baba always had a smile on his face and when a student seemed upset or sad he would always try to make some comment or joke to help put them in a better mood, maybe with out realizing it. In addition to being a huge help to all teachers, staff, and organization, [he always seemed to be at every event ready to help] he was some of the students favorite person to see in the halls because of his personality and demeanor.
Baba is an amazing person with a beautiful soul. He’s also one of the hardest working men I’ve come acrossed and he does everything with a smile and vibrant positive energy which flourishes through the halls of MacArthur HS.
Baba is someone I remember often when I think of high school. Everytime one of my clubs needed something he was always ready to help. Whenever you walk down MacArthur’s halls and you see him, he will always be wearing his bright smile. I’ve never seen a day where he wasn’t smiling. His whole vibe is just positive. If anyone I could to say thank you to in high school, it’d be him. I still remember all the conversations I’ve had with him. He was never just as a custodian. He was so much more than that.
Babatunde is the most genuine and kindest person I have ever known. He greets everyone with a positive attitude and a smile daily. The students love him, the faculty and staff love him, and he is respected by everyone. He works tirelessly to make sure our school runs and looks amazing. Baba is the definition of MacArthur High School , a sense of community is present when Baba is around. He is always smiling or cracking a joke, and the amount of respect we as a student body give him is way more than we give to anyone other administrator or teacher in this school. I am extremely grateful to be able to see Baba make a change in a students life, even if it is just cracking a joke to a student who is having a bad day. Without him there wouldn't be the outstanding and respectful MacArthur Cardinals we are today.
I Know Baba from middle school and as I read the description of how everyone characterize him, I am so happy to confirm from my part the same thing. I graduated Mac in 2007! Baba was the peppiest most cheerful janitor I’ve ever met! I never once saw him without a smile on his face. I so appreciated everything he did for our school!
Baba is an institution at MacArthur High School. As a little girl I would go up with my Grandmother, Rachel Morgan to play in her classroom while she prepared it for the upcoming school year and I remember her talking to Baba many times. I later attended high school at MAC from 2004-2007 where he was STILL working. He is positive, kind, dedicated and hardworking. He is loved and appreciated by so many at MAC where he has made lasting impact for literally DECADES.

My teacher called the front office for a custodian to come up if they could please clean it up. The first person to be there was Baba of course. Baba puts everyone before himself! there is never one time I don't see him that he doesn't say "what up president" or "have a great day" Baba deserves this award more than anything!

I do not know Baba as well as other people do but what I do know is that every one adores and appreciates this hard woking man.I never hear anyone complain about him or his work at this school.He has an outstanding work ethic that not many people have, it does not matter what time of day it is , I always see him smiling and greeting people. I as well as many other students at MacArthur High School love and respect Baba for his hard work and dedication. It is noticeably not an easy job to come to school 7 instead of 5 days a week to clean, serve, and encourage both the students and faculty. Baba has made such an impact to the students as well as for me. In fact, just last year, I wanted to orchestrate a school club called ASO (African student organization) at that moment, I was confused with a lack of confidence in myself to build an organization from the ground up. As I was working on a poster I would've never forgotten the moment he picked it up and a smiled ear to ear saying "I am proud of you." looking back on that day I never noticed how much of an impact four letters could have on me. He instilled the confidence both I and the other chair members needed to create an environment enjoyed by both the African and non-African student body.

I have had the pleasure of being a co-worker of BaBa Ahmed now for some 8 years as an Army JROTC Instructor at MacArthur High School in the Irving Independent School District. Mr. Ahmed has always been very helpful in helping maintain our campus as well as the JROTC Bldg when even needed. He has accommodated our program in so many ways through his unselfish work ethic and assisted our JROTC Program in many of our Formal (Annual) Inspections by making sure the building was cleaned and ready for inspectors each year. As a brand new teacher things can be a little hectic and unorganized, but Baba made me feel welcome and reassured on the very first day I came here. He always asks how I'm doing each morning and never hesitates to assist me if i'm in need of something for my classroom. He is a role model for everyone.
Boba is a staple at our campus. He is always willing to help out in any situation, whether it is cleaning up a spill or supporting your kids in the activities they are involved in. He always serves with a smile and a caring heart.

Baba Ahmed is one of the hardest working people I know. He is always doing something to make the campus a more inviting, safe, and clean place to be. He is proactive in making sure that things are working right and looking good. He is the kind of person who leads by example. When one of his staff is out, I see him stepping up to do their job, making sure that nothing is missed. Many head custodians would pass the work off to someone else, but not Baba; he just does the work himself. I have never heard him complain in all the years I have been here.
More impressive about Baba is what a genuine, nice man that he is. He always has a smile on his face, and a greeting for everyone. It doesn't matter if it is a student or a staff member, or a visitor, he is polite and engaging with everyone. You simply cannot interact with Baba without coming away feeling better. The students love him, the faculty & staff love him, and everyone respects him! MacArthur is a large campus with an extended physical footprint. To manage this size campus, keep things running smoothly, keep it clean, sanitary, and looking nice, day in and day out, is a Herculean feat. To do so with one of the most positive attitudes in the building is remarkable; and that may be the best word to describe Baba Ahmed... remarkable!

Baba is a special person to MacArthur High School. When he was transferred to another school, the school was not as well looked after. When he returned a few years later, the light of Baba returned. This school and this world is a better place because of this man.

Since I went school here at MacArthur HS and when I graduated he had always been there for us and went to all of our graduations to see us walk across the stage. Now that I work here at MacArthur HS he is still the same kind hearted person helping others and students. He has a warm helping heart always. I have only known Baba for this year so far but after meeting him, I was blown away by how kind and positive he is. Baba is so awesome! It’s always a joy to see him coming up the hallway. He never fails to give you a wonderful greeting and smile. His interaction with the kids are beyond wonderful. I don’t think there is a person in the school that the students adore as much as they adore him. He takes the time out of his schedule to talk to them and persuade them to get to class when they are lingering around. And they actually listen!! He’s such a special guy and I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to know him.

He asks them about their day and if they need anything. He does not walk past a person without greeting them. I have been on the campus with Baba for the past 13 years, and I truly believe that his a key component to keeping our campus going.
Baba has a way to brighten up ANYONE'S DAY! He is here before anyone else is in the building and leaves after everyone else has gone home. I have known Baba for many years and NEVER have I see him complaining (even about it being a Monday) or even seem frustrated (considering he runs the school). He is the most selfless individual I have ever met and gives hope that there are still genuinely good people in this word who do good deeds without ever expecting anything back.

Mr. Ahmed always brightens my day as he greets everyone with a huge smile and asks how we are. No task is too small or too large for him. He gladly assists in every way possible to keep our campus operating.

I graduated from MacArthur High School in 2016. The years I was there Mr. Baba was always smiling and joking around with the students. Always assuring we where staying on track and behaving. He always had an amazing smile and was eager to be at work and be around the students. I always appreciated who was and admired his kindness towards others.

Mr. Baba Ahmed is singularly the most productive, positive-spirited employee with whom I have ever experienced regardless of title, position, duty description, or pay grade. Baba's contributions and efficacy extend well beyond his assigned role as Head Custodian. The results of his efforts are not simply esthetic, sanitary, or facilities-focused, but rather are profound in their effect upon the spirit of MacArthur High School. Baba not only performs his scripted duties proactively and flawlessly, he orchestrates the myriad of maintenance activities of his staff. But, moreover, Baba creates a positive climate and atmosphere which permeates the entire school.
When I worked with Baba at Austin, he knew every student by name. He would greet them and ask about their lives, their goals, and praise them. One day, several students came to me because they felt Baba worked really hard, and they would like to do something nice for him. We instituted a "Baba Day" on campus. The students made a "throne" on the stage in the cafeteria for him to sit, and they made sure to clean the entire cafeteria during and after lunch while he relaxed and read cards they had written about how special he made them feel every day.
Baba truly makes everyone he comes in contact with know that they are valued and loved. Thank you, Baba! We miss you here at Austin!

While I have never met him in person, I know the difference that he has made to my son. My son is a student at MacArthur and on numerous occasions has mentioned Baba by name. There have been many times that Baba was the one bright spot in an otherwise difficult day for my son and I have definitely seen positive changes in my son's life because of him.

I have worked with Baba for many years and I feel he is a true asset to Irving Schools and MacArthur High School. Every time I visit MacArthur and see Baba he is always smiling and extremely helpful.
