Position: School Monitor
School: Kenmore West High School
School District: Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD
City, State: Buffalo, NY
Teresa Crean was nominated by her operations principal, Kevin Kruger.
Ms. Crean was new to the high school this year after working at the middle school level. She quickly developed positive relationships with the students, and she often gave students money to ensure they ate lunch every day. She was approachable and helpful to every student. Mr. Kruger worked with Ms. Crean almost daily and watched how students were quick to confide in her and talk with her about anything and everything. She made the cafeteria a safe place for her students. Her positive attitude improved the culture of the lunch periods. She helped deescalate situations and anticipate the needs of students.
Ms. Crean took on an unofficial role as the lead cafeteria monitor as she was the most experienced monitor by the end of the year. She was so helpful when new employees were hired and served as an advocate for her colleagues.
"I truly appreciated the work she did as the only monitor to work in our cafeteria from September-June," Kruger said.
