Music that Describes Meera

Meera Navarro was nominated by a friend, Rachel Duerme.

"My nominee, Meera Navarro, has excelled in education through her exceptional leadership, innovation, positive culture creation, and unwavering encouragement of students and staff to seek continual improvement. Celebrating her Silver Anniversary (25 years) with the Poway Unified School District, her remarkable loyalty and dedication to the district are unmatched," said Duerme.

"For the past 24 years, Meera has held a significant role on the 8th grade humanities team, actively embracing new ideas and resources to enhance educational programs at BHMS (Bernardo Heights Middle School). She has played a pivotal role in creating and revitalizing initiatives such as the Annual Constitutional Challenge, 8th-grade field trips, and various events. Before the challenges of COVID, she organized enriching learning experiences like 'You Be the Judge' sessions and Civil War re-enactments, bringing real-world relevance to the classroom," said Duerme.

"Meera empowers her students by instilling a sense of responsibility for their education, emphasizing essential skills for 8th graders to succeed in high school. She emphasizes executive functioning skills, aiding students in planning, time management, and effective communication to facilitate their progress and growth throughout the academic year. Recognizing the diverse learning paces of students, she advocates for various learning techniques and fosters a growth mindset, demonstrating genuine care for her students' overall well-being beyond just academics," said Duerme.

"Her dedication extends beyond school hours, providing tailored support to students through in-school tutoring and after-school assistance, showcasing her commitment to student success. Notably, her ability to build lasting relationships has proven invaluable, as former students often seek her guidance for prestigious opportunities such as scholarships, college admissions, and career pursuits," said Duerme.

"Furthermore, her involvement as the ASB advisor at BHMS demonstrates her commitment to community engagement. She spearheads various initiatives such as school fundraisers, food drives, and activities that foster a sense of belonging and goodwill within the school community."

"Outside of school, Meera dedicates her time to volunteering at her church's Children's Ministry, guiding young individuals in their spiritual journeys. Additionally, she serves as the San Diego Director for FamilyLife's 'Weekend to Remember,' overseeing a team focused on supporting attendees and inviting other couples to benefit from the program," said Duerme.

"Recognized as Teacher of the Year multiple times, Meera's impact on her school community is extraordinary. She remains deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve at Bernardo Heights Middle School, considering it a privilege to be part of such a nurturing and supportive educational environment," said Duerme.

My daughter Maya had Mrs. Navarro in 8th grade. Maya says she is a very supportive and kind teacher who helped her to be her best self. She helped set her up for success in high school. As a parent, that is the best thing you could hope for. I saw Maya blossom personally and academically as her student and in her moments when she was having a hard time, Mrs. Navarro was understanding and empathetic. We are grateful that Maya was in her classroom and feel that Mrs. Navarro is truly deserving of this honor.

Mrs. Navarro was my 8th grade teacher in 2006! She made such an impact on me then that I had to seek her out to talk to her as my son will now attend BHMS! Not only did she recognize me when she saw me, she remembered my full name almost 20 years later. She more than deserves every word of good that people are saying about her. She truly is one of a kind

Meera is a life changer for her students and her fellow staff members! Working at the same school, I often heard students say things like how Mrs. Navarro was the kindest teacher on campus. They knew she loved them and cared about their success. Meera also cares about her coworkers. She helped me on some really tough days at work, and I’ll never forget it!

Meera Navarro is one of the teachers and mentors who shaped me into who I am today! She was my 8th grade teacher at BHMS in 2006-2007, then she was a huge supporter when I started my teaching career at BHMS in 2017. Meera is one of the kindest and most supportive people that I know. She radiates positivity. I feel so blessed to have been her student and her colleague!

She has been one of those people who you meet, and you immediately know that she genuinely cares and wants to help make this world a better place. She gives me so much hope! She has also been influential to my daughter when she was in middle school and gave her the courage to work through very difficult challenges. I truly believe that her kind and loving heart has made a huge difference in her students lives. Outside of teaching, she is a loving mother, wife, and friend. Whether it be her passion for teaching students, her faith in our Lord, cultivating friendships, or her desire to be selfless and make the world a better place. With Meera it's all about people and relationships, and this is the golden rule.

Ms. Navarro is definitely a life changer at my kids’ school!!! She is always finding ways to bless others & empower others to do the same whether it be through teaching, coordinating school community building events, or putting on appreciation meals for her fellow staff or parent volunteers to name a few. She gives her students high expectations & helps them rise up to their potential & trains them to help make their school & community a better place. She is my son’s ASB teacher & his experience has helped him to adjust well to middle school & have a positive purpose. Our family is beyond grateful for Ms. Navarro!
