Jessica Thompson was nominated by an anonymous student.

The student encountered numerous new and humorous teachers throughout their junior year, making each day's classes a delight. Transitioning into junior year at Arrowhead High School proved daunting, as they lacked acquaintances and faced challenges with their mental health. Navigating the unfamiliar campus and racing to classes within short periods exacerbated their stress, especially with the campus more extensive than the south campus they had known for two years.

Acquiring a new case manager further added to their anxiety as they grappled with the prospect of change, something they typically disliked. Over the summer, an email from Ms. Thompson revealed she would be their new case manager, offering relief and amusement upon discovering they shared a love for dogs, including one with the same name as the student's own pet. However, they were disappointed that they could not meet Ms. Thompson in person and share stories about their furry companions.

Junior year proved challenging as the student endeavored to memorize every teacher's name and navigate the labyrinthine corridors to their classes. Additionally, the toll of their job at a dog daycare in Delafield weighed heavily on them. Initially fulfilling their passion for working with dogs and enjoying camaraderie with supportive coworkers, the departure of the daycare's manager and assistant manager transformed the workplace into a distressing environment. The student was in despair, burdened with extra responsibilities, and isolated.

Recognizing the student's struggles, Ms. Thompson took notice and extended her support. With a keen eye for analyzing students' needs and a willingness to prioritize their well-being, Ms. Thompson listened to the student's concerns, even amidst her busy schedule. Impressed by Ms. Thompson's empathy and dedication, the student found solace in her guidance. Ms. Thompson introduced them to the DVR (Department of Workforce Development) program, which proved instrumental in securing a new job where they felt valued and supported. The student credits Ms. Thompson for her unwavering support during a challenging time, acknowledging her pivotal role in finding a job they love with trustworthy colleagues.

Reflecting on their journey, the student expressed gratitude for Thompson's compassion and guidance when they needed it most. They said, "Mrs. Thompson is an amazing teacher. She gave me the option to work with a program that she swears by called DVR. All thanks to Mrs. Thompson for being there when I needed her most!"
