David Irwin was nominated by an anonymous student.

Every student at school adored Mr. Irwin; his humor, compassion, and readiness to assist with any issue endeared him to all.

"He loved his job and his students," recalled the student, reflecting on Irwin's impact. "He made you feel like he wanted to be at school with you."

The student first encountered Irwin in 8th grade but didn't engage with him until freshman year, when he served as their "SALT" leader—a role in which small groups of students discussed various life and school matters with a teacher on Tuesday mornings. His office, situated on the top floor with windows overlooking the campus, became a hub of popularity.

"Everyone loved him and his sense of humor," the student reminisced, noting his ability to lift spirits. Despite his generous nature, Mr. Irwin also knew when to be serious.

"He would find me after school some days and just ask to walk around the school to chat and make sure everything was going ok," the student recalls, highlighting Mr. Irwin's proactive approach to student well-being.

Mr. Irwin's dedication extended beyond the call of duty.

"He always went above and beyond by going to students and personally checking up on them," the student remarked. His door was always open, welcoming any student with an academic or other problem.

Reflecting on Mr. Irwin's impact, the student suggested, "I think Mr. Irwin should be the embodiment of a 'perfect' teacher." They credit him with easing their transition into high school and providing invaluable support.

"Everyone that knew him," they asserted, "would all agree that he is much more than just a teacher, coach, or school counselor, but also a good friend."
