Odette-Marie Alexis was nominated by Roland VanHorn, her principal.
"Our LifeChanger, Mrs. Alexis, works as Bradwell Institute's Parent, Family, and Community Engagement Specialist. In that role, she ensures that 1900 scholars and their parents are aware of resources available from the school and school district and acts as a liaison between the school and families," stated VanHorn.
Mrs. Alexis created a brilliant engagement platform called Parent University. The topics discussed and taught are directly from parents, families, and community member's requests.
Mrs. Alexis is also an Executive Board Member for Big Tide Change Makers. The Big Tide movement allows high school students to explore innovative careers and learn about resources to shape their future.
Mrs. Alexis works directly with a local news anchor, Tina Tyus-Shaw, and St. Joseph's Hospital to bring a mammography van to campus to serve the staff and community via a program called BUDDY CHECK 3. The annual visit has resulted in many teachers receiving their first mammogram. Mrs. Alexis is also a mother of children who have served or are currently serving in the Navy, Army, and United States Marine Corps.
"Mrs. Alexis is a LifeChanger. Her life's work has surely resulted in a better experience for many people in our community," stated VanHorn.
There is NO ONE better! Mama Alexis has been a pillar in the liberty county community as long as I can remember. She’s opened her heart, her doors and her arms to soo many of the youth including myself! If anyone has earned this award it is she! The compassion, grit and resilience she has taught and displayed could have only been ordained by God!

Odette is a light. She works with diligence and joy to promote her school
and our community. She is uplifting, supportive and inspiring.
I am a firm believer and advocate for community and family involvement within all schools. When we refer to school faculty, we often think about educators and administrators. However, Mrs. Alexis’ role at Bradwell is one of the most important roles that any school can have.
I have had the pleasure of spending a day with her at Bradwell in addition to observing her commitment to scholars and families throughout the Liberty County School System. She is a safe place for BI’s students. They can talk to her, come to her when they are hungry, need school supplies, or anything else. She is always there and willing to serve. She doesn’t let ANYTHING or ANYONE stop her from serving.
She embodies the essence of life-changer in the work she does. She works at BI but is known, appreciated, and admired across the Liberty County Community! She certainly has my vote and continued support! ????

Mrs. Alexis is phenomenal!! We had a chance to see first hand, how big her heart is for her students and her community. We was able to support her Back Pack Buddies program that she runs at Bradwell recently, and to see how much work she puts into making sure that the students have everything they need made my heart smile. She is so worthy of this nomination.

Ms. Alexis is a quiet force to be reckoned with. If there is a mission to be completed, she will always lead the charge.
