Music that Describes Laura

"After 31 years of teaching kindergarten and first grade, I still love what I do! My classroom typically includes many students with disabilities and typically developing students. My goal every year is to create a 'family' where students take care of each other academically and socially," said Sheedy. Watching kiddos assist their peers in a kind, loving way makes my heart so happy!"

"I feel like I am a mentor to younger teachers and some of my students' parents. Guiding them through ways to help their child become more successful is rewarding. I have had students living in poverty, yet I want them to have pride in themselves and their families. I gave them clothes, shoes, and toothbrushes in class for their use and gathered Christmas presents for their parents to give them on Christmas morning. For some students, I have sent food home, discreetly, in their backpacks," said Sheedy.

"Although teachers feel the pressure from the state and district levels to ensure our students are reaching the high academic standards that we set for them, I always prioritize their emotional needs. Being a 'mom' to each child and fostering their positive self-esteem and kindness towards their friends is as important to me as their academic education," said Sheedy.

"I am not looking to retire anytime soon, but when I do, I can see me volunteering in schools to keep impacting children who may need extra support," said Sheedy.

Mrs.Sheedy is a gem. My son Gio still talks about her and how she’s the best. He has adhd, and she’s the most loving, patient teacher. We were so blessed to have her that year. She’s a mama to all he students . She truly cares about her kids and it shows. We love you !!

Mrs. Sheedy embraces all the differences in her students, and their families with compassion and patience. She has a teaching style, that allows children to grow and shine in their own ways, and on their time. Forever grateful to Mrs. Sheedy.

Mrs Sheedy is a blessing to students and parents. She offers community and support. My son was a student in her class 2 years ago, as a 1st grader. She provided a safe and loving environment for him to grow as a student. At the beginning of each school year he says “I wish Mrs. Sheedy could teach me this year”!! She has made such a positive impact on my son that will last a lifetime. We are so grateful to know Mrs. Sheedy.

Mrs. Sheedy is truly a life changer! My son (with ADHD) is in her first grade class and he tells me she is his most favorite teacher in the world! He even calls her 'Mama Sheedy'. We are so very blessed to have such a wonderful role model in his life who he truly adores and knows that she loves him right back.

I am writing to express my gratitude and appreciation for Mrs. Sheedy's hard work and dedication as a teacher. She has made a lasting impact on my daughter, Penelope, who still talks about her fondly. Mrs. Sheedy is not only an excellent educator, but also a great communicator. She always kept me informed of my daughter's progress and areas of improvement, and never left me in the dark. She also taught the kids valuable personal skills that will help them succeed in the real world. I am very impressed by her professionalism and passion for teaching. Thank you, Mrs. Sheedy, for being such a wonderful teacher and role model for my daughter and her classmates.
