"I am delighted to nominate Mr. Charles Cravalho for recognition as an exceptional custodian at Waiakea High School. Mr. Cravalho goes above and beyond his role, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the well-being of our students and the environment," said Pieper.

"One of Mr. Cravalho's outstanding contributions is his dedication to incorporating sustainable practices within the school. He initiated a food waste composting program, showcasing his commitment to environmental responsibility. Furthermore, he organized a cardboard collection program, involving the Key Club in the zero-waste initiative. This program makes Waiakea High School a greener and more eco-friendly campus," said Pieper.

"Mr. Cravalho's advocacy extends to empowering students to grow their own food on campus. His efforts in this regard have been recognized with a tree grant enabling the planting of ulu (breadfruit) trees on the school grounds. This initiative promotes sustainability and provides students with valuable insights into agriculture and self-sufficiency," said Pieper.

"Beyond his environmental efforts, Mr. Cravalho ensures the cleanliness and safety of the gym, where he meticulously tends to the space for various events. His dedication is particularly evident as he volunteers after work to assist with the May Day program, sports events, banquets, and school fairs. His commitment to maintaining a clean and organized environment enhances the overall experience for students and staff alike," said Pieper.

"What sets Mr. Cravalho apart is his genuine care for students, especially those facing challenges. He provides a safe space for at-risk students, offering them a refuge when they need to cool down. Remarkably, he engages these students in maintaining certain areas, fostering a sense of responsibility and pride," said Pieper.

"In an often overlooked role, Mr. Charles Cravalho stands out as an exemplary custodian who deserves recognition for his outstanding contributions. His selfless dedication to the students and the school community sets a commendable example, and I sincerely believe that he truly deserves this award.
