Mrs. Bennet has had a profound impact on my life, despite our relatively short time knowing each other. Her kindness, intelligence, and willingness to help others make her an exceptional individual. Whenever I need assistance, I know I can rely on her without hesitation. What sets Mrs. Bennet apart is her understanding nature and remarkable patience, especially when dealing with her students. One of the ways Mrs. Bennet has positively influenced me is through her involvement in teaching the Personal Finance class. Her expertise and dedication in this subject have been invaluable, providing me with essential knowledge and skills that will benefit me for years to come. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a remarkable mentor like Mrs. Bennet.

I absolutely love Mrs Bennette ! She is such a wonderful teacher . She is caring , understanding and takes her time when teaching hard task . My son brady has just transitioned from an elementary school where he was having some difficulties with adjusting . Mrs. Bennette was a second mom to my son and made sure that he was well prepared and focused on the task that was ahead of him. She is the greatest teacher that I’ve ever met ! We love her and we are so Happy that she is apart of our lives ! She is definitely apart of our Purple Knight family and our community.

I have known Tosha for many years now. She is my best friend and biggest supporter. She is one of the most humble and caring persons that I know, not to mention strong and determined. Instead of giving you the shirt off of her back, she would take you to get your very own while teaching you how to acquire many more, if not own your own brand. She believes in helping others excel and is a selfless servant. The people she helps, she’d never post them on social media to show her acts of kindness or expects anything in return. That’s why I value her as a great friend. We even had the opportunity some years ago to co-teach together. We were a dynamic duo. “Prove the Possible” was one of the things we helped our students do. Now working at different schools, we still challenge each other to be lifelong learners and educate the whole-student. Aside from being an amazing educator, Tosha, aka “Saxahontas”, is a great musician. She is the first female to ever direct the Marching 100 of St. Augustine HS. It takes a phenomenal woman to do what she does, and she does it well!

Ms. B is the MVP in education. One day I asked my son about what he learned in math class on a particular day when he was in her class. He stated he learned about football. Feeling a bit concerned, I asked him what football had to do with solving math problems. He then began to tell me all about how in the NFL the coaches use the angle of pursuit when running plays. Then he explained to me about how this was one way to apply the Pythagorean Theorem and his teacher had just begun the unit on it. He said she took things they liked to show them how math is applied in everyday life. He had never been this interested in math before. Thank you Ms. B for bringing math to life in your class!!!

When I can to America I was very nervous and did not know what to expect because I knew very little English language. My school I had left was so strict. Students in my class like me lack self confidence and were often bullied by others. When I got here, I wasn’t immediately put in Mrs. LaTosha Bennett class. Teachers sat me to the back of the class and I felt all alone. I did not understand the English. I felt alone and afraid. Later I was placed in a class that was much smaller. Students greeted me with a smile and the teacher hugged me and said hello in my native language. In that moment, I felt safe! It was Mrs. Bennett. I later learned she didn’t not speak my language that she learned a few phrases to make me feel welcome and apart of the learning experience. She helped me learn English very quickly and allowed me to present to the class about my family and culture. It made me feel like I mattered. My confidence grew. I am so glad to have met her when I did. She changed my life in a positive way. She a great teacher!

I don’t know her personally but I have heard so much about her. I first saw her perform live with a band a few years ago. She was the only female on stage. Random women around me were inspired by her. She was in their eyesights the best musician on stage. I would haven’t expected for her to be a teacher. Clearly I thought she was a professional musician traveling 100%. Just recently I heard of St. Augustine having a female on their band staff. It was her walking at the back of the band. Asking around about who she was. I found out she is not the music teacher, but she teach math and personal finance at the school. A family member of mine just so happens to go there and he says “Ms. B is his favorite teacher because she makes everyone feel confident in themselves and in their work. I’m not sure where she finds the time to so all that she does, but I’m glad she does.

Joy Posted over a year ago

All I can say is that Ms. Bennett don’t play when it comes to making sure students are treated fairly and not excluded from learning. My son is on the spectrum and I will admit, it takes a team to work with him. Ms. B taught my son what I was told would be almost nearly impossible to do. Being in her class was the most happiest I had ever seen him when she taught him. He hasn’t had a greater teacher since.

Clint Posted over a year ago

Thank you Mrs. Bennett for believing in me. I will never forget the extra care and patience you gave me. I’ve never had another teacher like you. You were my LifeChanger then and you’re still a LifeChanger now.

Dominik Posted over a year ago

I thought I was a failure in math until one of my friends recommended I go to her for help. She wasn’t even my math teacher. She would help me by breaking down things into chunks as she called it. She inspired and encouraged me so much that I would knew I had to push for an A in my math class. In the end I made a B+, but if it wasn’t for her I probably wouldn’t have had more than a D. Thank you!

jayden Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Latosha Bennett is a life changer because no matter who we are or where we come from, she has treated us as if we were her own kids. The first time I met Mrs. Bennett she welcomed me with open arms. Also she is very funny and is very in tune with her self. Not only does she not have drama but she does not flaunt the fact that she is the first female band director in St. Augustine High School history. She deserves this award and good luck Mrs. B.

Mrs. Bennett is the Mecca of teaching,I wish she could’ve been a teacher when I was in school. With stands out about her is her patience, with everyone, even students that might not want to learn, or want to be disobedient, or disruptive to class that particular day. She stands as the “purple night”she is, and presses through. We have a saying as “purple Knights”we are our brothers keeper, and I could strongly say, Mrs. Bennett has never let none of us down. I stand behind the students and the rest of the the people that Elect Mrs. Latosha Bennett as life changer of the year. She definitely deserves it!

Mike Posted over a year ago

This is a long post alert: When I first met you, LaTosha, I was 19 years old, a transfer student, and what some called: a hard-head. It was at my college orientation that I saw your beautiful smile, heard your intelligent conversation, and experience your gift of music. At the time, I found out that you were not only the student government president, but you were the student assistant band director, a leader of many clubs and organizations on campus, and such a well rounded young lady. Me on the other hand, I just wanted to hopefully make it to my classes and band practice on time. Well, I guess because opposites attract, you and I instantly became friends while enjoying playing video games, challenging one another in gaming tournaments, and so forth. I still don't know where you found the time to be a great leader, put up with me, graduate with high honors, join the military, continue your education and so much more. You encouraged me to make it to my classes and band practice on time, join the choir to broaden my musical knowledge and repertoire, and participate in things I probably would have never shown interest in without you. You inspired and motivated me to think not only outside of the box, but to also learn about the effects of what is inside. Well, it's now 25 years later, we are still friends, and you have been my lifechanger over time. As the mother of our 3 children, my best friend, my motivational speaker, the person I can always count on, and so much more, I am so very honored to be able to call you my wife. I found my "great thing"! Additionally, outside of making a positive impact on my life, I've seen you transform the life of others. Like the time you taught that one student that all other teachers dreaded seeing coming and was on the verge of being expelled, you told him everyday how great he was everyday even during his not so great moment and when he told you and everyone he wanted to be an alien when he grew up. Your response made me think back to the conversation we had about the box. He was that box. You began to reflect on his bizarre response for his age but at the same time wanted to know what was going on with him internally to even say such a thing and truly be serious about it. You told him that his dream to be an alien was obtainable and how he could join the military and travel to foreign lands. That would technically make him an "alien" to foreign places. Just this simple acknowledgement that his dream was not "silly" as others ridiculed him for saying, you gave him hope and confidence. That young man saw himself making a positive difference in the world for the first time ever. On top of that, I got to hear about how his mom thanked you for just hearing her son out and giving him positive hope. His life was transformed forever. Today you are still transforming lives and continuing to challenge yourself as well. I am so proud of you. This year alone you have obtain your certification as a National Board Certified Teacher, made history as the first female staff member/director of the Marching 100 at St. Augustine HS, and so much more. I cannot wait to see what you do next as a Life Changer.

OP Posted over a year ago

This lady right here is a Jill of many trades and a master at each one. She introduced me to music, math, science, etc. I have yet to meet someone else with her skillset combination and patience. If I ever had a bad day, she was always available to help me cope and see the positive side of things. Because of her, I was able to rechannel my energy and focus on my strengths, reflect on my areas of growth, graduate early, and enroll in college. I am confident I will began my own business soon and began creating generational wealth. Thank you for nurturing and believing in me. I am forever grateful!

Angel Posted over a year ago

I have had the pleasure of witnessing the profound impact my mom has had on all of her students (past and present) as well as her colleagues and the community. She is exceptionally deserving of this recognition even though she will often times remove herself from the spotlight as she believes that some of the most impactful people are those many will never know outside of personal relationships. My mom consistently demonstrates her unwavering commitment to fostering and maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment. Her motivational and caring personality encourages her students to go above and beyond despite any doubts that may initially exists. Her goal is to transform education into a system that has yet to be designed. She's not only a life changer, but she is also a lifelong learner. I've seen her research and study ways to individualize lessons for her students and incorporate games when applicable. This year she is teaching math and personal finance. Being a lover of STEM, my mom incorporates project-based learning in both classes. I saw her math students use real numbers to design blueprints on Tinker Cad and then build scale models of their designs. Another example was when she used the football angle of pursuit drill to teach the Pythagorean Theorem to members of the football team to make learning relevant. But when I heard her say that her personal finance class would complete a STEM project as well, I must admit, I could not see the correlation until I saw the end product. The class ended up using their financial knowledge to create a "Black Wallstreet" concept and related it to the needs of establishing a Black community in New Orleans East. Students designed a blueprint and model for a bank they'd all establish to build and run, conducted research of their perspective career fields (college, median income, cost-of-living...) to add to the economic construct of the community and so much more. I attended the Open House/exhibition and got to listen to students explain what they learned from their project. I can go on and on, but I'm sure others will add more to show just how amazing my mom is. Congratulations! I look forward to being just as great as you are. Thank you for being a dynamic role model to me countless others.

Michael Posted over a year ago

You were my first teacher and always challenged me so I would never be bored with learning. Where other teachers may have found my love of video games a waste of time, you used my interest to turn me into a great writer and innovator. I had to conduct research about Sony, learn about its stock, and challenge myself to design my own game concept. Well, this led me to a future career in technology. One day I do plan to travel to Japan to study at their top school for gaming design. Thank you so much for seeing my potential.

Oh my gosh, Elijah thank you so much for your support. You are one of the coldest bass guitarist that I know. For those that do not know, you (also Antron Haile, and Carl Wheeler) were one of the founding members of Tony Toni Toné. 3TOB is Tony Toni Toné Original Band! Also on board are Jubu Smith, who joined Tony Toni Toné during the production of their second album The Revival, and Amar Khalil who took over as lead singer following Raphael Saadiq’s exit from the group in 1998. Of all these guys, Khalil had the longest run with the original group, staying 20 years. Fact: "Elijah Baker is a lifelong bass player, singer and songwriter who has made his mark as a renowned producer. He is also CEO of Ambitious Records, Inc.In 2019, while working on the production of the award-winning documentary, Loyalty No Royalty: The Breakup of Tony Toni Toné, the concept of 3TOB "Tony Toni Toné Original Band" was born." Bio Excerpt: "In the original group’s heyday, album covers and media coverage promoted them as a three-member band, when in fact, there were six members counting Elijah Baker, Antron Haile, and Carl Wheeler. They were the “sound” of the band. Then Jubu Smith joined the group and added his unique and recognizable guitar riffs to that sound." https://3tob.com/

Thank you so much Tim. I appreciate your comment. I promise I will keep spreading a positive impact on the youth that I serve. It is so important to equip them with the skills that will allow them to succeed in the current Industrial revolution and be innovators of the anticipate 6th Industrial Revolution all while creating generational wealth.

LaKeisha, I am so thankful of the impact that your dad had on me and so many others in high school. For me, he taught me the ends and outs of being a young [female] sax player, he gave me both tough love and also wisdom on how to navigate men dominated spaces, especially when being the only female in the room. He encouraged me to never give up and to keep pushing even in the most difficult situations. He ensured me the fruits of my labor will prevail even when I couldn't envision it at the moment. This stuck with me. He told me "Don't B#, Don't Bb, Just B Natural". This is a musical saying I live by today. Additionally, thank you for being supportive. I truly appreciate it. #ClassOf1997 #BlueWaves #PGHighSchool #PortGibson

I met beautiful Queen Latasha Bennett. playing her saxophone at Joe Brown Park in the Summer 2021. We instantly became friends. She donated her sound system for Mother's Day 2023 at Queen Mama Alaina's Kitchen Venue. I nominate her for the Life changer award because of her intelligence, her skills, and her compassion to educate that has helped others and made them better people and helped us make better choices

Ms. Bennett is a wonderful teacher. Ever since coming to St. Aug, the impact she has on students is amazing. She quickly became one of my favorite teachers. Whenever I get the chance to go and talk to Ms. Bennett, I go and talk to her about things such as wanting to take her class for the next semester because I believe that students in her class are ready for anything she teaches about. Throughout the semester I have gotten closer with Ms. Bennett as a student considering I went through something in band that was a great moment for me. Now whenever I need a teacher to go to and rely on, I will always go to Ms. Bennett 100% of the time.

I have known Latosha Bennett as a Sorority sister and best friend for 12 years. This nomination does not surprise me at all. As I am sure her students have experienced the same great qualities she has as an educator that I have experienced as a dear friend. Latosha has advanced skills in mathematics and personal finance. She also has skills in communication, listening, collaboration, adaptability, empathy, and patience. All of which holds near and dear to my heart when we are together. Good luck Latosha and congratulations on the nomination!!
