Music that Describes Mitzi

Mitzi Martinez was nominated by a family member, Anissa Martinez.

"My mother is beautiful, a friend to all, and a hard worker," said Anissa. "She is one of the hardest workers I know. My mother works full-time at Flagler Palm Coast High School. She also works as a representative and licensed hairdresser and does everything to support her family on her own. She works with exceptional education students in a high school setting. Some days are very challenging for her, and she receives a lot of joy from the students she works with," said Anissa.

"Her current one-on-one is in a wheelchair. This student has two muscle disorders that make it difficult for them to hold items, feed themselves, and toilet themselves. Sometimes it's difficult for her to understand what her student is asking for, but every day she comes home with a joyful story of how this young student has impacted her life," said Anissa.

"As a union representative, she volunteers at fundraisers and supports her fellow workers at her school. She has traveled to Tallahassee to learn more about the legislature and bring back information to share with her Union. I would not be the young woman I am today without my mother's help. I have two brothers who love her as much as I do. I plan on entering the teaching profession and hope that I'm half the woman my mother is," said Anissa.

I have known Mitzi for many years we have been friends. I have been her boss at J C Penny's . She worked with us at Avanti Hair. In all these years she has been a team leader . Willing to go above and beyond to help in anyway.I feel she would be a true blessing . I would highly recommend Mitzi.

I have worked with Mitzi for years in our Extended school Year program. No matter which group of kids Mitzi works with each year, she learns who they are individually so she can make the biggest impact in their lives. To show the limitless passion she has for our students with disabilities I'll share this. We had a student over 400 pounds who would soil himself several times each day. Mitzi bought material and made our student several pairs of shorts that she would then wash so he had clean shorts to change into each day. You gotta love Mitzi!

I have known Mitzi for almost ten years. She is one of the most compassionate, dedicated and loving individuals to ever grace education. She puts the needs of others over herself. Both the kids and the schools are so lucky to have Mitzi

I met Ms. Mitzi a long time ago. First she was a teacher at my younger brother’s Pre-K and then a paraprofessional at my high school. Ms. Mitzi has a passion for caring and educating others in a way very few have. She is extremely passionate and selfless in all of her actions. She is always looking out for her people and her students and she is someone that is truly pure of heart and character. She is a diamond in the rough. She is the perfect candidate for this award and any and all awards.

I met Mitzi in a school setting last August. Her love and passion for students with disabilities are genuine. She brings excitement, energy and positiveness when she walks into a room. She is smart, caring and hard-working. She deserves a title of "life changer of the year" for sure. I congratulate Mitzi for her accomplishments and appreciate all the love and support that she has for our students. Keep rocking, Mitzi! Because we all know that you are a rock star!

Mitzi was one of the first people that helped me when I started at FPC. She was always so welcoming & a joy to be around! She is a one on one with my old student & i know first hand how badly a handicap-van is needed. Inclusion is a big foundation that Mitzi believes in & this is extremely beneficial to not only her student but others!

Mitzi is a para in my classroom and she goes above and beyond. She volunteers at the humane society and also is the union-rep for the support personnel at FPC. She is trying to help us figure out how to acquire a handicap-van for our STREAM department, as her one-on-one is wheelchair-bound, and we need to share a van with another school. The STREAM department services students age 18-22, who have deferred their diplomas. Part of their Life skills education is to take those students on so-called CBI-trips (Community Based Instruction). Right now the van we get to share every two weeks is broken down and thus, we cannot take Mitzi's student with us.
