"It isn't easy to describe Danielle Floyd's impact on students and staff at Landrum High. This year, she was honored as our Teacher of the Year. She later went on to be named District Teacher of the Year for Spartanburg District 1. These recognitions alone are an impressive nod to Mrs. Floyd's impact as a special education teacher at Landrum High School," said the nominator.
"Mrs. Floyd makes a tangible difference at Landrum High School. Mrs. Floyd works closely with all aspects of our special education population. As a Careers teacher, she works with students working toward employability. Through this class, she teaches students skills toward workforce employability. Mrs. Floyd continues to reinforce these skills through a student-run school store. Mrs. Floyd helps monitor students in this store as they make and sell milkshakes, snacks, and small, school-related items. Mrs. Floyd also assists in the support of the student-led recycling program. Mrs. Floyd works with other members of the special education department to organize, plan, and arrange the necessary supply shopping field trips to provide practice opportunities for the students. As a co-teacher, Mrs. Floyd pushes into our English department to work with students in English classes from 9th to 12th grade. Mrs. Floyd works closely with our English department to provide students with the specialized instruction required to access the general education curriculum and graduate with a high school diploma. Finally, Mrs. Floyd works with special education students in an Academic Enrichment class. Within this course, Mrs. Floyd works diligently to meet the goals of each student to help them close their academic gap and continue their progress toward graduation," said the nominator.
"What is more difficult to put into words are the intangible things Mrs. Floyd brings to the school and its community. Mrs. Floyd is an advocate for both students and staff. She can also be seen speaking with peers and students to help solve and empower them on their journey. Mrs. Floyd can approach and address areas of concern with the administration and work with the team to help solve situations that arise. Mrs. Floyd has a strength in relationship building. She can often be found working with students individually to coach them through difficult situations such as struggling grades, peer conflict, and steps after graduation. The relationships that Mrs. Floyd has nurtured provide her with the opportunity to help students grow in ways beyond simply academics. Mrs. Floyd's holistic approach to students empowers them in ways that will never show on report cards or SAT scores but have a much larger and long-lasting impact," said the nominator.
