Music that Describes Ben

Ben Hunt was nominated by a colleague, Tollis Bond.

"I just began working at Eastside Elementary this school year as a part-time teacher and could just tell what a heart Ben has for each student at Eastside," said Bond.

"I first met him in June 2023, as we were going on home visits with every PreK and Kindergarten student for that upcoming year. He knew every child's name and gave each one a popsicle. As we traveled from house to house, if he saw other students out in their yard, he'd also stop to talk to them and give them a popsicle. You may be thinking, It's just a popsicle, but it positively impacted every family and child to know their principal cared enough to stop by their home. He is constantly coming up with new ideas and ways to make each student feel loved and excited to be at Eastside," said Bond.

Here are some of the things he does at school for the students, teachers, and families:

  • Feed and Read: every family is invited three times yearly to come to school that evening and is given a free meal and books to share and take home.
  • Creates videos for every occasion
  • Edits each day's morning announcements to promote activities
  • Leads Viking Rallies to recognize each month's students in each grade. The faculty rolls out the red carpet and lets students walk out.
  • Plans fun days like Amazing Race, Hawaiian Day, etc.
  • Rewrites songs to fit lessons for different subjects for the students. (Math raps for 3rd/4th)
  • Helped to get the house system started at Eastside to keep the students engaged and excited!
  • Writes grants for Whitfield County School System.
  • Won the Principal's Grant from Whitfield County this year.
  • Teaches subjects in classrooms.
  • Does morning and afternoon duty daily. Lunchroom duty twice weekly to stay in touch with the students.
  • Put a sound system at the bus loop so kids can get off the bus to music to start their day!
  • Plays his ukelele in the lobby for the students and sings to them.
  • Bought a snow machine so the kids can have snow in the building.
  • Creates a theme for each year's back-to-school meeting for teachers!
  • Wears costumes year-round to make kids happy and laugh.

"There are probably many other ways that Ben has touched lives and goes out of his way to positively impact the lives of not only the students and their families. He enhances Eastside Elementary and takes great pride in being the school's leader! It's not just a job; he puts his whole heart into it! That is why Ben Hunt is a LifeChanger," said Bond.

Mr. Hunt was a 7th grade teacher of mine 20 years ago. His patience and ability to love his students no matter what mood they may have been in that day was so impactful. He also was my coach my 8th grade year. He had enthusiam and love for the game and always believed in us as a team and individuals. He showed me what it meant to be apart of a team not just be on one and what good sportsmanship can do for anthlete. Here's to you Mr. Ben Hunt, you are a such blessing and are really changing kids lives. You deserve all the recognition and more! Thanks for all you do!

Absolutely blessed to have had the opportunity to be Mr. Hunt’s student and have my children experience his golden heart as their principal! He is everything you could ask for in a child educator and even more as principal. Just a small example of the level of devotion he has for his school is Mr. Hunt will know every individual name by heart by the end of the year. He is truly incredible.

I met Ben Hunt in 2010 when I interviewed for my first teaching position as a 52 year old. Ben gave me the opportunity to start another career in education. Through the years Ben was supportive and encouraging. As we spent more years together his innovative spirit and my “out of the box” thinking resulted in several collaborations. Ben’s willingness to listen to my crazy schemes and ideas are only one example of his determination to create an educational environment that makes school fun. Although I am retired I still volunteer regularly at EES and am always eager to see what Ben is up to next. His impact on me personally as well as the entire Eastside community definitely qualifies him as a Life Changer.

Coach Hunt taught my son in 6th grade years ago. When he’d come home from school, Mr. Hunt’s class was the one he always talked about. My son still talks about how great of a teacher he was today. He had a great way of connecting with kids and making lessons fun. They would play games, shoot fun videos and make the lessons into adventures. Even today (19 years later), he always asks how my son is doing when we see each other.

Mr. Hunt is a perfect example of a life changer! He goes above and beyond what is expected of an administrator. He is personally invested in the lives of the students, their families, his staff, and the community. He makes each student feel valued and holds high expectations of them. He encourages his staff to stretch themselves and encourages involvement in school decisions. Through the various programs he has implemented, he has impacted the students in a positive way. He is well deserving of this life changing award.

Patience and understanding are two values Mr. Hunt displays daily. He has lots of fun programs and events for the kids, but these are the two things I have appreciated a lot from him. My son requires a lot of these values and Mr. Hunt provides more than we could ask for.

As a retired school administrator, I have had the pleasure to work with many outstanding school principals. Without a doubt, Mr. Ben Hunt has been a LifeChanger for the students at Eastside Elementary. After I retired, I had the pleasure to work at Eastside Elementary for 3 months while Eastside searched for a full-time Assistant Principal. During this time, I was able to observe Mr. Hunt and the impact he has had on the students, parents, and staff at Eastside Elementary. One example of Mr. Hunt’s leadership is his extraordinary effort to make home visits to new students and their families. Mr. Hunt’s commitment to remembering and addressing each child by name is a level of dedication that goes beyond the typical role of a school principal. The impact of his actions is immeasurable, creating an environment where students feel seen, valued, and supported. I would recommend Mr. Ben Hunt without reservation, for the LifeChanger of the Year Award.

Elizabeth Phelps Posted over a year ago

Ben Hunt goes above and beyond for the students at Eastside. He is always coming up with innovative ways to encourage and nurture the students as they learn and grow. They are happy and want to be at school. Parents are always welcome at the school. He supports the next generation of teachers by welcoming teacher candidates into his school, mentoring them as an administrator. He also supports the paraprofessionals in their goal to become teachers. All it takes is spending time at Eastside to see the climate and culture that has been cultivated throughout the years Ben has been there. If you haven't had a chance to experience it firsthand, I encourage anyone to interact with the wonderful faculty, staff, and students at Eastside. I guarantee it will be an interaction that will not be forgotten. : )

Mr. Hunt is one of the best educators I’ve known! He has a passion for his school and is always looking to help out anyone that needs it. He’s gotten furniture and beds for families in times of need and works hard for the community. His school has a reading night for families where they go for four times over a month, eat dinner and then learn how to help their kids at home. He even has the program that is totally in Spanish so everyone can be included. I think they do this four week class several times a year so as many families as possible can participate and is no cost for the families. He also is always looking to bring opportunities to his students. For about five or six years, he partnered with a member in the community and another school to send kids to a weeklong leadership trip to Disney World that was free for us! The kids got to fly to Orlando and were given the chance of a lifetime! They went backstage, learned about leading by taking special classes and got to do things that they’d never done before.

As a grandmother raising four grandchildren, I have had the unique opportunity to witness the transformative impact Mr. Hunt has had on each of their lives during their time at Eastside Elementary. This year, as my youngest grandson completes his journey at Eastside, I am compelled to express my deepest gratitude and admiration for Mr. Hunt's exceptional leadership and influence. Mr. Hunt stands out not only as an educator but as a remarkable inspiration and role model to all of my grandchildren. His dedication to fostering an environment of safety and love at Eastside Elementary is evident in every aspect of the school's culture. Under his guidance, the school has become a sanctuary where every child, regardless of their diverse background, is embraced and encouraged to thrive. It is rare to find a principal who commits so wholeheartedly to the wellbeing and development of their students. Mr. Hunt's ability to create an inclusive and nurturing environment has made a significant difference in the lives of my grandchildren, shaping them into confident and compassionate individuals. His contribution to the school and its students extends far beyond academic achievements; he has cultivated a community where children feel valued, understood, and supported. It is with great sincerity that I recommend Mr. Hunt for this award, as he truly embodies the ideals of educational excellence and compassionate leadership.

David Morales Posted over a year ago

My two kids both went through Eastside, where Mr. Hunt is the principal. He always had a smile on his face and cared about the students. When my cousin lost his house and needed furniture, Mr. Hunt got my cousin’s children beds to use. That’s not something you hear about a principal or a school doing. Also, my youngest child was very fortunate to get to go to Disney World because of Mr. Hunt’s work with people in the community! For several years, he and another school worked with a person in our town to send dozens of students to Disney to participate in a leadership program. There was no cost to us, but the students got to fly to Orlando, stay in a hotel and learn about leadership while participating in once in a lifetime experiences. Many of the students who got to go had never been on a plane or stayed in a hotel. Just showing kids what is available to them and expanding their horizons is life changing for sure! My child still talks about the trip to this day and learned many lessons from the experience.

Born and raised in Dalton, GA I was an Eastside Elementary student from K-5th grade when Mr. Hunt was principle. I am now 24 years old & my little brother, niece and nephew have all had the pleasure of having him as a principle and an older sister who worked at Eastside. Mr. Hunt exudes kindness and love. You can just see how much he genuinely cares about Eastside and its students by his actions. Although I’m not a student anymore, I can see how involved he is with his students and teachers. We need someone like him who cares so much especially in a school with a very high non-English speaking immigrant population. If anyone deserves this award Mr. Hunt! I hope my kids are able to have him as a principle one day!

Mr. Hunt has cultivated a positive, warm, and welcoming school environment for his staff, families, and students. He is very involved with all students, creating opportunities for family/community involvement, and supporting his amazing teachers. Eastside is an incredible place and Mr. Hunt has been part of creating and nurturing Eastside into what it is today. He always has a smile on his face and emphasizes the importance of learning but while having fun. The kids love it at Eastside, it is their home away from home.

When I started working at Eastside I had changed schools in the middle of Summer and had yet to meet Mr. Hunt. I sent him an email introducing myself and he replied with "It's so great to hear from you and I can't wait to meet you". It may have been a simple and polite response to him, but I instantly felt welcomed before ever stepping foot in the building. That is exactly how he makes each person who enters Eastside feel. Welcomed, wanted, and appreciated! He definitely has a calling on his life to serve in the way he is and is living out that calling to the fullest.

Ben Hunt, an exceptional principal and community member, exemplifies unwavering dedication to both students and staff. His heart for education goes beyond conventional roles, as he consistently goes above and beyond to ensure a joyful learning environment. However, Ben's true essence lies in his relentless commitment to the safety and well-being of every child. Prioritizing their sense of importance and belonging, he creates an atmosphere where students flourish not just academically, but emotionally. Ben Hunt's impact extends far beyond the classroom, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those he serves, fostering a community that values learning, safety, and each individual's significance.

Mr. Ben Hunt has been a beacon of inspiration not only within Eastside Elementary but also in the broader Dalton community. His commitment to educational excellence and community engagement is evident. One of his most notable accomplishments when I worked with Mr. Hunt was the creation of the Viking Camp. This innovative summer program perfectly mixed academic learning with exciting field trips, offering students a unique and enriching experience. Additionally, Mr. Hunt's dedication to educational accessibility is commendable. When I worked alongside him, he extended learning opportunities to a local mobile home park. Faculty and staff would walk to the mobile home park to take the learning and tutoring to the families in need of support. This initiative not only supported countless students after school but also strengthened the community. On a personal note, working alongside Mr. Hunt has been incredibly inspirational. His guidance and leadership have played a significant role in my own pursuit of school leadership. His positive influence and commitment to making a difference in the lives of many are exactly why he deserves recognition as a LifeChanger of the Year.

I have had a child at Eastside for the last 14 years. My children are not in the district for Eastside, but I send them there for the one simple reason, Mr.Hunt. He knows every students name. He goes above and beyond to make EVERY child feel valued and important. He loves his job and that radiates on to the children at Eastside. He always finds a way to spread joy to his students. He is truly a one of a kind principal and deserves this award and much more.

Mr. Hunt was my social studies teacher years ago. He would always plan fun lessons that got us excited about history and geography. He’d dress up like Indiana Jones or make a video game where we had to save him by answering geography questions. He also always has had a heart for his students and their families. Right before Thanksgiving, I saw him at a store, working with teachers from his school to collect food for his students’ families for the holidays. He had partnered with the store to collect items the families could have over the long break. I found out that they were able to collect food for about 100 families! Our community is blessed to have educators like him, who are always looking to make a difference and change lives!

But oh how wonderful it would be to see him win this award.

Ben has been an incredible community partner to our organization for 3 years. When I initially met with Ben, I was pitching to him a partnership between his school/teachers and community members. Without hesitation, Ben said yes and we were able to develop a literacy mentorship program for the students of his school. Since our initial work together, Ben has been innovative in how we connect with students a parents and a true thought leader in the realm of elementary education. Watching him interact with his students and parents always brings a smile to my face. Ben seeks for every student and person that comes into contact with him to feel welcomed and cherished. He is one of the best and we are so grateful to have him. I can think of no one more deserving!

Mr Hunt coached my son in basketball over 20 years ago at Valley Point Middle. It was great for the middle school aged boys to see a teacher/coach/leader with such great character! Mr Hunt always displayed great sportsmanship. He was fair and caring toward each member of his team as well as respectful and kind to all the parents. We were proud to have him coaching our son. I recently saw Mr Hunt at our local grocery and he called me by name And asked me how my son was (who is now a teacher as well).

Mr. Hunt served as my 6th grade social studies teacher. He made nervous kids entering middle school feel at ease. Most students are ready to go home when it gets to that last class of the day. I looked forward to learning with Mr. Hunt! I am now an educator myself and hope to leave a legacy such as his.

I think Ben is a great principal and person. I work with him doing community activities for the school with wal-mart. We (Wal-mart #5173) have picked his school to partner with and help. This has alot to do with the relationship Ben has with every student in the school. He makes them a priority and tries to help them and there family on any level that is needed. I can't say enough about Ben as a person or the care that he shows to the students and teachers that he represents.

Hannah Posted over a year ago

Coach Hunt was my favorite teacher when I was in middle school almost 20 years ago. I can still remember the lessons he taught 20 years later because he made them fun and enjoyable. He helped coach my son in basketball last year and it was easy to see how much he still loves his job and loves the kids. I can’t think of a better recipient of this award!

Allen Posted over a year ago

Mr. Hunt has always been an engaging educator, which I know firsthand from when he was my 6th grade social studies teacher in ‘05-‘06. I remember he would try to engage with each and every student, regardless of background or abilities. As an administrator, Mr. Hunt reached out to me years later when I was in high school to ask if I wanted to volunteer at his elementary school to encourage students to read and continue learning. It is this intentionality that makes Mr. Hunt exceptional; he remembered me as a former student and orchestrated a mutually beneficial opportunity for me to serve and for students to learn. Mr. Hunt is an educator who puts the interests of his students, faculty, and staff above his own.

Mr. Ben Hunt has been a principal at Eastside Elementary School for as long as I can remember. Both my kids went through EES and I can recall all the fun and engaging moments they had while being there. This was partly because of the great leader that Mr. Hunt is. He strives for the best and wants the best for his staff, but most importantly, the students. He deserves the Life Changer of the year award!

Brice Johnston Posted over a year ago

Coach Hunt, as I know him, is more than deserving of this nomination and should be seriously considered for receiving this year’s Life Changer award. I had countless teachers and coaches throughout my grade schooling, but it has to say something for him being one of very few that I can immediately recall. Coach Hunt not only fostered an engaging and fun classroom environment, he also helped to establish discipline and work ethic in the basketball gym in a way not many people could convey to a pre-teen/teenage crowd. Building blocks for success were laid on a foundation of learning, reinforced after school hours in a small gym with three rows of bleachers and no air conditioning. In the classroom and in the gym, I have memories that have obviously lasted a lifetime. Would this be the definition of a Life Changer? Ultimately that is for you as the reader and issuers of this prestigious award to decide. I think so.

BEN HUNT!! Truly a one of a kind person, principal, and leader. Ben landed me my first teaching job straight out of high school and I will forever be thankful for that. My years of teaching at Eastside Elementary I always felt cared for and appreciated by him. He was always there to talk to and would do anything he could to help me no matter the situation. His character and personality is one of his best attributes. I’ll always remember how Ben never let anyone he came in contact with go by without him saying “hello”, “how are you today”, and if a sub or volunteer came in the building it was “We are so glad you’re here today”. Little does he know, people notice these things and truly appreciate it!!

Ben Hunt is a life changer. Before we moved away he was the principal for both my kids starting in kindergarten. My oldest daughter was in the 5th grade when we moved 2 years ago and her and my younger daughter still ask what's going on at Eastside and Mr. Hunt. They often say they wished they still had him as a principal. He is truly missed by our entire family but we love watching and keeping up with him and his incredible staff at Eastside. In our eyes no one else has a better principal or person that goes above and beyond for his students, staff and thier families. Also when my family went through some difficult times he was there to help anyway he could and never judged or looked down on us. He is an amazing person inside and out. Stephanie Gentry Posted over a year ago

Ben Hunt understands his students so much because he’s still a kid at heart. We all face many challenges as adults, but Mr. Hunt takes notice of how those challenges can directly affect students. He just gets it. But it’s the extra step he takes from there that makes him worthy to be called a “life changer”. Instead of seeing a problem or challenge for what it is, he seeks out how to overcome it. And he’s not good at taking “no” or it can’t be done” as an answer, which pushes him to accomplish even more. How has he changed lives? I’d say he’s done it by showing up and showing out for his school, raising money for educational programs like Read-and-Feed, coaching multiple ball teams, mentoring future educators, creating many school promotional videos to hype up students and families. His job as a principal doesn’t begin and end when he’s in the building. The job is in his thought process. He remembers the “why”. I first got to know Ben Hunt personally when our daughter graduated from college and began her teaching career at Eastside Elementary in the Fall of 2012. He was excited about the school and his passion was contagious to the staff and students and easy to see each time I visited the school. I have served on the Board of the Whitfield Education Foundation for many years and as a community member I appreciate the "extra miles" that he has consistently gone to over his many years at Eastside Elementary in order to encourage kids and their families to value education and and to do their best. Thank you, Mr. Hunt, for the difference you are making in the lives of so many students!

Ben Hunt is a life changer. Prior to working with Ben, he was the assistant principal for my brother's middle school. After that, he was the principal at Eastside while my sister attended. Even then, I could see that he cared for his students and his employees. I began working at Eastside in 2016. Ben took the time to help me and would check on me daily for at least the first month I was there. That's who he is. He has a huge heart for our school, students, teachers, and families. He invests in his people, finding our strengths and helping us develop to become stronger. He is always available to talk, even if it's not during school hours. He cares and show us all in so many ways. There are so many words that could describe Ben Hunt. He is supportive, trusting, considerate, innovative, respectful, intentional and more. He leads with enthusiasm and heart. Eastside is a school where you feel valued. He is the reason why our school is the best school.

Ben Hunt is the epitome of a life changer. He has changed many lives throughout his career and is continuing to do so to this day. He makes sure every student, parent, teacher, staff, and anyone who walks into Eastside is having a great day and genuinely looks after us. I am currently a first-year teacher, and throughout this school year, I've felt comfortable in the environment he's provided where I can grow and teach comfortably knowing I have support from him and our colleagues. He is a great mentor and role model for both students and teachers. Thank you for all that you do, Mr. Hunt!

Out of all the schools, Ben Hunt is always the most outgoing and he's always smiling. He will go out of his way to speak to you and make you feel welcome. The kids seem to love and look up to him. Eastside Elementary is blessed to have him.

I was working at Eastside Elementary in the front office when Ben came to our school as our new principal. Ben made the fourth principal that I worked for. But he was the BEST. It didn’t take home before we all came together as a family. Ben had an open door for the teachers to come in and talk to him and voice their opinions and concerns. My personal interaction with him started right after he came. One Friday night he was at a high school football game when I was rushed to the ER with what they thought was a heart attack. Within a hour guess who showed up in my room?? Yes Ben Hunt!! That was something that he sure didn’t have to do. Lucky it wasn’t a heart attack! He has been there for me during many situations. Ben was always looking for ways to help the students achieve their goals. There is not a more caring principle than Mr. Ben Hunt. Thank you for considering him for this position. He is a well deserving principal.

Mr. Hunt is one of the best leaders I have worked with. He is always looking for ways to innovate and also develop other leaders. When he sees a problem, he looks for ways to address it. During the pandemic, he delivered food to families that were unable to make it to distribution sites. He partners with the local college to offer summer programs for students that are both enriching and help with summer slide. Our families at the school wanted to learn how to help their children learn to read, so he led a push to raise $40,000 to implement an after school program where families get a nice dinner and learn effective reading strategies. The money raised will allow the program to continue for 7 years. Two years later, he and the EES staff raised another $30,000 to implement a house system to help address SES issues they had noticed after coming out of COVID. He’s written grants to buy STEM materials, send students to leadership programs, and develop a free library program for the community. He also looks for ways to get the EES teachers to reach their potential. At least 13 of the teachers at the school started as teachers’ aides, but he encouraged them to pursue their dreams and gave them an opportunity to teach. Others have been given chances to become leaders, as EES has sent the most staff to the district’s leadership academy due to his support. His former students come back to work with him. Retired teachers seek out his school, and the few teachers that do leave often come back. You’d think that, after 14 years of being a principal at a school, complacency could set in. That is not the case. He continues to look for ways to improve the school and strives to make every day count.

When I graduated college, he immediately wanted me apart of his staff at Eastside. The past 8 years at Eastside have been the most rewarding and exciting years I could ever ask for. I always tell people I work at "the best school" and it's largely due to the leadership Ben possesses. He not only makes sure Eastside is providing rigorous curriculum, but he also makes sure it's an elementary school- fun and a place you look forward to coming everyday.

Mr. Hunt has been and always will be, an awesome role model and encourager of each of these children. He is supportive, concerned, and “hands-on” in the everyday happenings at EES. I have other grandchildren at another Whitfield County Elementary school. That school has a new principal and I have learned that Mr. Hunt is encouraging and “mentoring” this new Principal. To say that I am thrilled about this is a gross understatement. There is no better person to lead a new principal, in my opinion. Congratulations to Mr. Ben Hunt!! He deserves all the attributes!

Over the years, Mr. Hunt witnessed my journey through elementary, middle, and high school. Upon graduating high school, Mr. Hunt's generosity ensures my success in college. Ben Hunt has drive. He is driven to make the students at Eastside have the best day, every day. He is driven to help shape them into respectable young people. He is driven to insure his staff feel like family. I’ve never met someone who cares so much and works so hard to brighten days. Every Christmas season Ben dresses at Buddy the Elf and greets students outside. A video was compiled of student reactions this year and it brought tears to my eyes to see so much joy on the faces of students that I know were going through some rough things at home. He is making elementary school magical. And I’m glad I get to be inspired by it.

I've known Mr. Hunt since I was a 6th grade student (2006) at Eastbrook Middle School. He was my assistant principal. When I think of Mr. Hunt, the words passion, leader, and caring come to mind. Mr. Hunt is a passionate-caring leader who wholeheartedly dedicates himself to creating a nurturing and thriving school environment. He makes it a priority to connect and build relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. He always has a smile on his face each morning and is ready to greet students, teachers, and parents. Mr. Hunt goes beyond his administrative duties. He is always in the classrooms, interacting with students, and even teaching. Last year, he taught a 4th grade math class with another teacher for the entire year and he has taught multiple social studies lessons in my 1st grade classroom. Furthermore, Mr. Hunt makes himself available if we need to speak to him about professional or personal concerns. He knows life happens and that we cannot always be on our A-GAME. He always offers words of encouragement in the hallways and asks if he can help in anyway. In 2013, I did not know what I wanted to major in. I saw Mr. Hunt out at a store and he asked how I was doing. I told him I was confused and struggling to decide what I wanted to do with my life. He asked me to volunteer at Eastside on Fridays to help bag popcorn and teach art. Mr. Hunt gave me an opportunity that changed my life. It was in that moment as I stood in front of the kids that I realized I wanted to be a teacher. He hired me in 2017 and I've been teaching under him for 8 years now. Lastly, Mr. Hunt is a planner and is always thinking of how or ways we can improve as a school. He does not do it alone. He looks for and gives his staff the opportunity to lead. He knows working as a team and making decisions together is crucial to a successful school. I am thankful for the leadership opportunities he has given me and I know that one day I hope to be a passionate-caring leader just like him. Mr. Hunt is an inspiration to everyone and is an exemplary leader who deserves this recognition.

He goes above and beyond to get to know the students and plans all kinds of activities and events to get students and parents involved. His main reason for doing these things is not just for the kids to have fun, but for the kids to learn. The smiles on the faces of his students let you know they love him and their school. The name of this award is so fitting for Mr. Hunt because he is truly changing lives.

If you were going to give an award to a life charger giving it to Mr. Hunt is absolutely the best choice. When I say the best choice I don't take it lightly. He is so personal with the children knowing every name, not because he feel like he has to, but because his heart wants to. You ask how do I know what's in his heart? I know because he wears his heart on his sleeve. He treats every kid the same, he teaches, he's a counselor and most of all he's a role model. I have seen him dress up, twirl around, sing, dance, rap and enjoy doing it. I feel like every student has a piece of his heart and they are willing to give a piece of theirs. I had two children to attend one graduated and the other one is still there and any time you mentioned Mr. Hunt their face light up. To know that someone they see everyday can make an impact on my children life I will MOST DEFINITELY GET MY VOTE

Ben Hunt made an important contribution to our family as soon as we moved to Dalton, peace of mind. We were moving in the middle of my daughter's fourth grade year. Hard all around. We came down for an inspection of the home we were buying and I wanted to see the school she would go to. He happily agreed, gave us a complete tour of the school and eased my mind. It was evident from that first meeting that he really cared about the school as a whole and each individual student. It has been proven time and again over the last six years. Mr. Hunt has curated a culture at Eastside. It is a family. The attitudes, ideals, and environment are rich for learning, play and fun! My daughter flourished at Eastside. I can't say enough good things about what Eastside has brought to my son. My son is autistic and has behavioral challenges. With him it takes a team of caring teachers to get him through each day. Good administration begets good teachers and Eastside has the best! Eastside also has the best events and daily fun. Mr. Hunt and his team make every day an adventure for these kids and keeps the kids wanting to come to school, even if it's just to see what crazy thing he has planned next! Everything from the sensory room to the accommodations set forth for my son are never a challenge to receive. Mr. Hunt checks in just to see how my sons day is going and to see if he just wants to talk. They bond over dad jokes and my son comes home telling me he has had a great day! Ben Hunt has made a drastic impact on my sons education. Many principals would have given up on him prior to his diagnosis. My son has had setbacks, but the Eastside team is always there to catch him and keep him pushing forward. Mr. Hunt is the common denominator through all of this. He is always there and always involved. The level of communication, willingness to go above and beyond and the amount of care that has been given to my son from kindergarten to 5th grade has been immeasurable. I will be forever grateful.

I am a parent and my son has attended Eastside for the past 5 years. In those 5 years I have gotten to know Ben and we have developed a good friendship. In the first two years my son was attending I had the privilege of taking my son to school every morning and eating breakfast with him. During those times I saw Ben daily and we communicated a lot. Ben has a completely different school wardrobe. He has outfits for every occasion and really gets into dressing up and acting out the themes of the day or week. I have never seen this done to this extent and I have been an elementary educator working at many different elementary schools since 2000. Ben was always greeting the students, talking and building relationships in the lobby and cafeteria every morning. He always told me he was glad to see me their at school. We exchanged numbers early on. Several times Ben has texted or called me to inform me of a situation at school that involved my son. Mostly just to give me the heads up and to reassure me. For example just two weeks ago Ben called to tell me that he noticed my son was afraid of wasps, in and around the playground and at car dismissal. He informed me that they had sprayed and killed the wasps and that my son should be fine and not worry about getting stung. How thoughtful was that? Ben is always sending out ClassDojo messages at all hours of the morning, day and night with helpful information. It also appears that he does indeed live at the school. There are so many special events that he does for the students that it makes the school like a magical place for my son to attend. The events are very well planned and carried out. For instance, Ben puts his body on the line for the school. Each year they have a wrestling match where been and some of the teacher wrestle local professional wrestlers in a night of wrestling in the gym. Ben and the fellow teachers, actually perform at a high level and risk bodily injury just to entertain the students. That is the most amazing amount of effort I have ever witnessed an administrator but himself through. The kids love it. I really cant say enough good things about the positive environment Ben has created at Eastside and also his effort to forge a relationship with myself and my wife regarding our son. I could not have asked for a better principal for my son. Ben is super nice, caring and invested in his school. My son has had a great experience while being at Eastside and I made a lifelong friend.

Mr. Hunt is an amazing leader. He leads by example. He is passionate about helping the children in his school succeed. He is passionate about working with all the families in his school. He is passionate about helping to grow the next generation of teachers. He is a true community partner. He reaches out to those in the community who can help him achieve his dreams for the students in his school.

Mr. Hunt is the best principal in the entire county, everything he does is done from the bottom of his heart, he probably knows our students and their families more than his own, he lives at school, he is always available 24/7, he is texting us (staff) or sending emails even on weekends about work or upcoming events, he is always working and thinking on ways to improve support/communication with students/families, he plans and leads events to encourage families and students to improve academically, I don't think he ever gets a break, he leads us with passion, he is always reminding us that ours students and families always come first, he really cares for them, but he also cares for us (staff), for this and a thousand other reasons Mr. Hunt is definitely a "LifeChanger"

There are so many great things and ways to describe Mr. Hunt. Yes, he is crazy creative. Yes, he is super passionate. Yes, he is next level energetic. However, his dedication and compassion for every single person that walks through our school’s doors is extraordinary. He goes above and beyond for every single person. He is an inspiration every single day and is the epitome of a great leader. A great leader is at the front pulling just as hard, if not harder, than the rest of the crew. This is Mr. Hunt. He’s a problem solver, always looking for ways to not only bring out the best in others, but how to help them shine brighter and brighter each day. He constantly finds ways to break down barriers to get our staff and students what they need. I’ve had the privilege to work with Mr. Hunt for over 10 years. I can’t imagine working with anyone greater.

This is my first year at Eastside and I can say, without a doubt, Mr. Hunt's commitment to our school community is truly exceptional. His hands-on approach with both students and staff sets him apart from others. Each morning, he plays upbeat music and personally greets students by name, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere. His genuine connection with everyone in the school fosters a sense of belonging and support. Mr. Hunt goes above and beyond, constantly seeking innovative ways to meet the diverse needs of our students, their families and our dedicated staff. Ben Hunt is one of the most caring and authentic people I know. He is an amazing educator and administrator. He cares so deeply and so sincerely for his students! Despite leading such a large elementary school, he knows each student by name, and knows most of the parents and family members as well. He is an huge advocate for his school, his system, and his community. Ben is always looking for opportunities to lift up his students in anyway he can; he has done some amazing things! I have been fortunate to work with him in several partnerships between Dalton State College and Whitfield County Schools. He bends over backwards to make these initiatives as valuable as possible for all. I have also seen him in action at school celebrations. He is incredibly supportive, positive, and enthusiastic, and everyone who works with him appreciates the opportunity to work in such an environment!

I’ve known Ben for many years now, first as a teacher and then as a principal. In the time I’ve known him, he’s always done whatever it took to make a difference for his students. He visits every kindergarten family the summer before they start school, and is always looking for ways to help families. In the past two years, he has worked constantly to raise money to help his school implement innovative programs. Through his leadership, they have raised thousands of dollars to provide books and meals for families, send kids on overnight field trips where they learn about being leaders, and to help pay for memorable experiences at his school. He’s had 8 foot tall robots visit the school, drum lines play for his students, and had pro wrestling matches where he and the teachers defended the school’s honor. During COVID, he delivered food to families every day that couldn’t make it to the food sites that the school system had set up. He works to be the best principal every single day for his students and their families.

I had the opportunity to work at Eastside along Mr. Hunt and I can say I have never seen a principal care so much about his students. He truly loves his job and will go above and beyond for his students. I was able to see what an impact he has on his students on a daily basis. He makes sure the teachers have everything they need to be successful. He creates lessons, videos and so many activities to make sure the students not just mechanically memorize but truly learn the material. He builds a relationship not just with the “good” students but all the students and their families. He never gave up on a student, he always finds a good quality to complement, even the ones that would be in trouble. Because of this Eastside’s students feel and know they are loved and want their success. This motivates them to really engage in their learning. My own children went to this school and the experiences they have from their teachers and Mr Hunt is something they cherish. This is true for so many families for many years. I was able to meet many of those families that only had positive things to say about our schools leader, Mr Hunt.

I was the library assistant and office clerk within a period of 5 years at Eastside. Mr Hunt was and is one of the greatest mentors of my life. He creates a safe space for everyone that he comes into contact with whatever the circumstance may be. I have seen him comfort grieving mother's who have lost their children, give winter coats to underprivileged families, stay until 5 or 6 in the afternoon waiting for parents to get off of work to come pick up their children. He prioritizes the family and their welfare over his own convenience. He controls his own emotions and gives everyone a chance to be better. One question I heard him ask often to families and staff was, " What can I do to help." Mr. Hunt is one of the most authentically kind, generous, and creative human beings I have ever met. He understands that each interaction with each person in his community has an impact and he chooses to make a conscious effort to use each and every one of those interactions for good. He aims to leave the belief with each of his students and staff that somebody has seen them and cared about them. He Cares. It's who he is. He has touched my life and the lives of my children in a very positive way, and we are better people for having known him. Not only does he deserve this award, but many others. Of course, he would never say that, which proves it all the more.

I am a student teacher a Eastside this semester. I am in my second to last block to becoming a teacher. When I found out I was being placed at Eastside Elementary I was nervous because I wasn’t familiar with the area. However, that change quickly. Mr. Hunt has made me feel welcome and at home since the first day at Eastside. Mr. Hunt greets me every morning as well as the students. Mr. Hunt is always going above and beyond for his staff and students. You can see the drive he has for his students and staff to be successful everyday. I love Mr. Hunt.

Mr. Hunt was my principal from 4-5 grades. He was always so kind. He would be in the car rider line every day greeting students by name and he would work lunch duty, talking to students and remembering tiny details. He was always so kind, and left such an impact on me that in 9th grade, when I had to do a presentation on who my hero was, I naturally chose Mr. Hunt. He always helped his students and would often pop into classes to help teach(he taught me longitude and latitude in 4th grade). Mr. Hunt would often wave to me and ask how classes were going even after I went to middle and high school. His love and care for his students emanate daily with the interactions he has.

I have worked with Mr. Hunt for close to 15 years now. He is the most supportive administrator I have ever known. Mr. Hunt is always looking at ways to improve his already amazing school and no idea is too outrageous for him to consider or even do. He knows all the students names and will go out of his way to make them each feel special everyday. He has such an amazing connection to each family that enters Eastside and once they are an Eastside Viking, they are part of the Viking family for life. He is truly the best!

Ben Hunt is the most dedicated and inspiring educator I have ever met. Ben Hunt sees Eastside Elementary as a family and works hard to give all students and educators the opportunity to discover their potential. He provides the teachers with opportunities to grow in leadership and personal skills. He inspires students to take pride in their work. He holds students to high standards and encourages them to have grit and perseverance. Ben Hunt also works to collaborate with the families and communities he serves. He uses many media tools to communicate with parents and the community. He works to visit homes, work food drives, and provide lessons to families on reading strategies. The Read and Feed Program hosted by Eastside is an amazing opportunity for families to learn reading skills to help their children become successful. Before each new pre-k and kindergarten student begins school, Ben Hunt and the student's teacher visit the student's home to begin building successful relationships with a handshake, book, and a popsicle. Students and families know from day one that they are valued and have an advocate who is there to work hard for their child and provide them with a safe environment and a wonderful educational opportunity. Ben Hunt is an inspiration!

Mr. Hunt was my middle school principal. I was fortunate to work as a paraprofessional where he is currently the principal at for almost 3 year. I see Mr. Hunt strive to make a positive impact on everyone around him. He goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels valued, safe, and content. During my time as a parapro, I was struggling with my mental health. Mr. Hunt immediately noticed and offered support. He also continued to check on me during the covid pandemic. For that, I will always be grateful and appreciative.

Mr. Hunt does an outstanding job greeting every child by name every morning. Holidays filled with magical displays and personally playing and singing songs to the children. He provides a safe and loving environment and I couldn't think of a better school to have my children at because of his ability to show each child they are included and cared for.

Mr. Hunt makes every person at Eastside feel like family. He celebrates every student, teacher, and parent who walks through the school's door. Everyone is greeted by name and he knows and remembers details about each of their lives. In turn, when he walks into a room, the students cheer! Movies and music play a huge part of our lives at Eastside. Mr. Hunt raps, dances, plays the ukulele, climbs on the roof, and dresses up in costumes to ensure Eastside students are engaged. If rapping math facts will help the fourth graders learn their multiplication, he will do it! If a world-renowned archeologist is needed to help students with reading comprehension, then look out snakes and villains! For several years, we have had a wrestling tournament at our school. Tickets are sold and competitions held for the most students at the wrestling tournament. Mr. Hunt and a few of the other teachers take part in a wrestling match to raise money for the school. This event doesn't just happen, months of preparation and planning go into the event. If you could see the faces of our students, screaming at the top of their lungs, cheering for Mr. Hunt, you would know what a gamechanger he truly is.

Mr. Hunt goes above and beyond in many different ways for his students, the people he works with and the community. I was once a student at a school where he was once a principal at. Now, I work for the same district he is in. I've seen him be creative and go the extra mile to encourage his students about learning and attending school. Those that work with him feel encouraged to do their best. He makes everyone feel welcome! He has inspired the teachers at my school to implement new strategies that are educational and also for the community. Thank you Mr. Hunt!

If you left it, you would never know how truly remarkable his actions are, but if he took a step to the left, or if you took a step to the right, and you turned and ask someone in this community, they would be able to help you understand the impact this gentleman has had on the students, the teachers and the community at large. Truth be told he doesn’t boast a brag, unless it’s on his students who work hard to achieve and go beyond the goals that were set when they first started. Ben has accomplished a lot with less and has maintained a smile through challenges. He inspires as a true leader does but something greater with that. He by consciously assists others in unlocking the leader within them. I am proud to have met and continue getting to know this Viking steering the Eastside Elementary ship toward success.

I am a teacher at another school in Whitfield County. My son went K-3 in the county we live in. He developed severe anxiety about going to school and would act out to get out of class. He would get sick in the mornings and cry for me to let him stay home. As an educator, and as a mother, this was heartbreaking. We decided he needed a fresh start. This year, his 4th grade year, I transferred him to Eastside. Mr. Hunt volunteered to meet us over the summer. He is so excited about his school, and cares so much for his students. My son instantly wanted to go there. He wakes up in the mornings excited about school! He is excited about the events the school has, loves his teachers, and loves his principal. When Mr. Hunt posts videos, he wants to watch them over and over. Mr. Hunt has made videos for that his math teacher was able to use on factoring. He goes above and beyond to instill a positive environment and love of learning for the students at Eastside Elementary. Mr. Hunt knows the students by name, and he knows the parents. He is a wonderful person, and he has changed my son's view of school. I am thankful for him and the caring community he has built.

Mr. Hunt continuously looks for ways to make the school experience warm and welcoming for students and parents. He has implemented many innovative ideas to improve literacy and increase parent involvement, and he hosts the summer STP (Pre-K) program that helps students who missed Pre-K be better prepared to start kindergarten and be successful. One of the most impressive things I know about Mr. Hunt is that before school starts each fall, he and a team of his staff members go to the home of every incoming kindergartner and pre-k student and introduce themselves to the family and welcome them to Eastside. Eastside has over 560 students, so this warm greeting to students and parents is a large undertaking but one that is worth the effort.

I have had a kid at Eastside since August of 2013. Two of them have moved on to middl school and high school. I still have two at Eastside now and one more to go. Mr. Hunt has been amazing from day 1. He’s so engaged with all of his kids, calling them all by name, even my child that isn’t there yet. He still talks to my older kids any time he sees them and they are always happy to see him. One of the biggest things that stand out about Mr. Hunt to me is how much he truly cares for his kids. My daughter had to have two brain surgeries last year. She missed 2 1/2 months of school. He would text me to check on her. He even texted me a video to her from Santa last year when she couldn’t be there. He genuinely loves his kids and his staff. I’ve never heard anything bad about him from a kid, staff or his own personal kids. He’s so much fun and does so much for our kids. I pray he stays at Eastside for many, many years to come.

All 3 of my kids attended Eastside , they are now 13,18,19 yrs old. The one thing i always talked about to my family and friends is how my kids principal knew every single kids name ! And he greets them every morning at the car drop off. Even as my older ones went off to middle and even high school ,if Mr Hunt would see them in the car while dropping off my youngest he still called them by name and would speak to them. My kids loved school and i really believe he had the biggest impact on that. When a kid is known by the principal its usually because they are in trouble , but not Eastside. Mr Hunt knows every student there. And anyone riding by in morning drop off or afternoon pick up will see him in the parking lot making sure the the students are safe . Thank you Mr Hunt for all you did for the Rosas kids.
