Derrick Battie was nominated by a colleague, Delna Bryan.
"I know this gentleman to be committed, dedicated, and a supporter," said Bryan. "This gentleman encourages the students. I myself have sent male students to talk to him. He has a way of talking to the students that shows a different approach in the students when they return to class. Maybe they are seeing the father figure that they need at home. He talks to their parents and keeps up with the students' families and their needs."
