Marta Almanza was nominated by an anonymous colleague.
"Marta Almanza has been working tirelessly and selflessly in Houston for Galena Park Independent School District for 15 years. She takes elementary schools and keeps them clean and safe, and she does amazing work," said the colleague. "She always has a warm smile and inspires students to clean up after themselves. Most of these students are from low-income and disadvantaged families. Any extra love or skills you can give them or teach them are positive things."
"Being a head custodian is a big responsibility. She is responsible for more than 1,000 students' safety and treats each of them with attention and love as if they were her own. The students always show their appreciation of the sparkling clean hallways throughout the year," said the colleague. "She always has a great attitude and is always positive. When you are having a bad day, she is always the person to change your attitude to a positive one. Ms. Almanza and her team do an amazing job. I am so proud when I walk into North Shore Elementary School and see the students in a clean and safe school."

As a former Special Education (Life Skills) teacher at North Shore Elementary, I can say that Ms. Martha is genuinely a kind hearted, hard working person. Anytime we needed her in the classroom she was there ready to help us and the students with whatever was needed. The kids loved her and knew what time she would usually come in to check on us. She knew our students by name and sometimes even brought them treats. Ms. Martha is very deserving of this award as she always goes above and beyond for students and staff.

I would like to send a big congratulations to Ms. Marta Almanza for being nominated as a candidate for the Life Changer of the Year award. I appreciate Ms. Almanza for all of her hard work. It is very difficult to keep the largest elementary school in the district clean for the students and staff. She does an excellent job and is an asset to both North Shore Elementary and Galena Park ISD. I am so proud of her and all of the things that she do for the students. She’s such an amazing and positive person. Her kindness makes everyone feel comfortable. She’s always working hard and staying positive.
