LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Steffany Congelio was nominated by her colleague, Anne Hribar.

Ordinary acts are often the most extraordinary, and simple actions may be the most profound. Mrs. Congelio paints this reality at Incarnate Word Academy. For many children, "reporting to the principal" has negative connotations, but not at IWA. Students regularly seek out Mrs. Congelio as a trusted adult to seek guidance, consult, and pitch ideas for school improvement.

Mrs. Congelio sees the individual students in front of her. She truly sees them, values them as unique people with ideas and gifts, and helps them think through challenges, raise personal expectations, and realize dreams. Mrs. Congelio is responsive to the needs of her school's learners, which are emotional, academic, physical, social, and/or spiritual. She coaches the staff and demonstrates active listening to create a safe, creative, innovative, and community-minded learning culture.

One example is embracing families who have fled Ukraine. Steffany sought a teacher to help these students overcome the language barrier. This teacher also regularly meets with respective faculty and families to help with communication and relay needs.
