LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Dawn Jenkins was nominated by her colleague, Vikki Griffin.

"When I reflect on the meaning of the word 'LifeChanger,' the person who automatically comes to mind is my principal, Dawn Jenkins. Dawn's smile will light up any room with contagious energy to match. Dawn has been an educator for 29 years and is currently a principal at South Columbus Elementary School (SCES), where she has been for the past eight years," said Griffin. "What is so special about her leadership here at SCES is that she was a student at this elementary school, and she attributes her success as an adult to the teachers she experienced when she was a student at the school. So, her passion for teachers and students comes from a place of sincere commitment to our school's mission: 'to inspire and equip all students to achieve unlimited potential.'"

Mrs. Jenkins' leadership is instrumental in changing the trajectory of the students served by South Columbus Elementary School. Her commitment and passion go beyond the school building, which is evident when you see her interactions with the families and surrounding community members. She is known, respected, and loved for how vested she is in the success of the community as a whole. Throughout the years, Mrs. Jenkins has "adopted" several students and families, ensuring that they have adequate physical and mental health care, taking families to the doctor, providing groceries and clothes, paying medical expenses, and just being available to be a listening ear for emotional support for families whenever they are in need. Her knowledge is vast, so families depend on her guidance in crisis.
