Debbie Hughes was nominated by her friend, Ron Polk.
According to Polk, Ms. Hughes is somebody who continually influences students from her school who will, in turn, influence our country in the future.
"I've know Debbie for a short 5 years," said Polk. "I am an administrator at James Logan High School and I have watched the care in which she performs on a daily basis. During our administrative walk-throughs, I get to see first hand how she instills life long lessons that her students will be able to use in their near futures. Because of her relationships that she creates with all of her students, they have coined a name for her; Momma Hughes."
Momma Hughes holds the belief that all students can learn. She is an integral part of her school's Puente Program, which Polk oversees. She has educated numerous classes of students who will be first generation college students. Due to her influence, several Logan alumni are attending some of the most prestigious post-secondary institutions across the country.
"Each year for Puente, we do a Southern California College Tour," Polk explained. "At every place we visit, there is a former alum that she has taught. She is remembered because of her nurturing and personal touch that she puts into everyone that she comes into contact with. This is why she is a deserving educator and LifeChanger in our community."
