Norma Perez was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.

Mrs. Perez is one of a kind. She goes above and beyond the call of duty, not only for her students, but her coworkers as well. She is a very positive individual who has no problem taking on a challenge and completing it with nothing less then perfection. Mrs. Perez is an excellent teacher and has been requested by many parents as they hear of her exceptional teaching methods and determination to make her students shine. She is a very committed, nurturing teacher who takes all students under her wing and has them not only meet their curriculum, but exceed it. She was nominated as her District Elementary Teacher of the year for 2016-2017.

"She is an excellent role model and has made a big difference for all of her students and colleagues," her nominator said.

Mrs. Perez is a very deserving nominee; my child walked into Mrs. Perez class only knowing the letter X. My child was diagnosed with several speech disorders and he is delayed. Knowing that my child’s journey will be difficult, Mrs.Perez never doubted my child’s ability to learn. She just knows what her students can do. She helped give a spark to my child that I’ve never seen, everyday he went to school he believed in himself more and more. As the year went by my child learned letters and sounds, fry words all 100, writing and began to read. Mrs. Perez did not create a miracle with my child, she gave him love and admiration. She never gave up on my child nor any other child she’s taught. Today my child loves to read and write; he still talks about Mrs.Perez “magic” (there are magical words you use when writing). If anyone is deserving it will be Mrs. Perez her heart is with the students.
