Maria Mackliff was nominated by a family member, Naomi Mackliff.
"Last school year, there was a wave of children and families from Latin America that were transitioning to living in NYC and attending PS11, which was near their shelter," said Naomi. "Maria was in contact with families and translated into Spanish to help families settle in. She was very active in the transition and participated in clothing and school supply donations with the parent volunteers. She also invited a Hispanic church in Queens to come greet the new families at school. At this major event led by Maria, the church provided a hot meal for the families, donated clothes, and put on special performances in Spanish. Parent volunteers from PS11 were also there to help out the families. Over 150 families attended that night. Maria is a hardworking, passionate, and highly effective professional."
