LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Levi Herrin was nominated by a colleague, Clemmie Mitchell.

Mr. Herrin embodies what it means to be supportive, understanding, caring, and giving. Mr. Herrin goes far above and beyond his job duties and gives far more than most people would. He is a leader in his building and is always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He has worked hard to make his school a positive place for the students who attend, and has developed himself both personally and professionally over the years. Mr. Herrin strives to share his knowledge with others and be a mentor to new teachers. 

When job duties are assigned at school, everyone knows that Mr. Herrin can be counted on to pull his weight on the team. He makes sure that students have the supplies they need to complete their assigned tasks. He has purchased notebooks, pencils, paper, folders, and other supplies for entire classes of students out of his own pocket, and he devotes time to making sure that his students are successful.

During one school year, he gave up time on his fall and Thanksgiving breaks to meet a student at the public library to make sure that they were able to handle their coursework. In addition, Mr. Herrin is always willing to assist his colleagues with anything that they have going on.

"He has taken the time to help me on numerous occasions and give me suggestions. He can always get my computer working and is always willing to help move furniture and assist in setting up the classroom," Mitchell said. "Further, he is always a listening ear for me. As teachers, we always need to vent, and Mr. Herrin is able to listen and advise with the wisdom of one who has been in the profession for decades."

There are many qualities that make Mr. Herrin a LifeChanger, but the best quality is that he cares for his students. He has given time, effort, and money to make sure that his students have everything that he can possibly give them to help them be successful. He takes the time to pray for his students. Mr. Herrin has secretly purchased clothing for them and fed students who otherwise may not have eaten over the weekend.  This past school year, he took the time to personally appeal to authorities on behalf of one of his students who had gotten into a difficult situation. The authorities understood his heart and were able to work with the student to keep them in school.

"I can not say enough positive things about Mr. Herrin and the work that he does on a daily basis to make a difference in the lives of the students in his classroom," Mitchell said.
