Meghan Wendlandt's nominator wishes to remain anonymous.
Ms. Wendlandt is the epitome of what a great teacher looks like. She works tirelessly 7 days a week, 12 months a year, and any student would be more than lucky to have her as a teacher. She is currently teaching first grade while also going back to school to earn an Education Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education.
"Meghan advocates for her special education students in a way that demonstrates her deep love for students and her profession, even though she is a general education teacher," the nominator said.
Ms. Wendlandt is currently starting her fourth year of teaching, but she has become a building leader in many areas. Other teachers constantly go to her for advice and assistance with various issues her school.
"I am not a teacher, but I see the students that she encounters, and she is most definitely a LifeChanger," the nominator said. "I have people come up to me in public all the time and rant and rave about how much their child loves her, whether they're currently in her class or have been in the past. She has a special passion for special education students that burns like a fire and is clearly seen by anyone and everyone that has ever seen her teach."
"I do not know how to explain to you what an amazing teacher she is," the nominator said. "I do know that I see the eyes of her students when they look at her, the parent faces that approach me to talk about her, and the phenomenal impact she has on each and every one of her students. She is a rare gem in the education world."
Mrs. Wendlandt means so much to my child! She was her 2nd grade teacher and although Bella has an awesome teacher this year, she still comes home talking about Mrs. Wendlant. She went above and beyond for my daughter and I cannot thank her enough. She is the most caring and patient lady in the world. She deserves to be acknowledged and appreciated. I have never seen her without a smile on her face and she treats all of our babys as if they were her own. She is truly a blessing! Thank you Mrs. Wendlant!!

Mrs. Wendlandt is extremely deserving of this award. My child has been blessed to be in her classroom this year. She is caring, patient, kind, and truly pours her life out for her students. She is always wanting to collaborate with us to make sure my son is successful. On days when my son is struggling, she never ceases to reach out to me with suggestions and ideas or to ask those of me as well. Her desire to see ALL students in her class succeed is both inspiring and humbling. She is the very essence of what a great teacher should be. Mrs. Wendlandt is the definition of a life changer - even as someone who has only known her for 2 eventful months, this is very evident. Day to day, you can always see Mrs. Wendlandt's ability to make her students feel important, enjoy learning, and feel included. She is very accepting of students of all abilities and it is clear to see that she loves each one wholeheartedly. You often see students pop into her door or mention to other staff members saying how they wished they were back in Mrs. Wendlandt's class. Her ability to help doesn't stop at just students. There are many occasions throughout the day where other teachers pop in asking for advice about dealing with students, altering lesson plans, and minor adjustments to their own classroom. Mrs. Wendlandt's love, patience, and diligence is commendable and make her deserving of the Life Changer of the Year award. Best of luck to her!
Megan is always finding new projects for her students. She makes each student feel special and praises them for their success. This is very important for all little children in their first year. Help preparing them for their future.

I am honored to be Mrs. Wendlandt's student teacher this year. After meeting her and seeing her with her students, I am NOT surprised that she got nominated for Life Changer of the Year. The love she has for every student is so inspiring. She is a light to all of those around her, and I take-in every piece of advice she gives me about teaching and working with students. I have personally witnessed her bringing her students to life. Seeing these students transform in just the month I have been around them is completely amazing. Words can not describe what she has done for me and her students, and I'm looking forward to learning so much from her. I have seen students who go from not speaking or opening up to anyone, to running and playing with other kids on the playground, laughing and smiling and participating in class. Students get excited coming into her classroom every morning. I have been in the schools for awhile, being a student teacher and a substitute and this is the first classroom that I have been in where students actually look forward to learning. They learn beyond the curriculum in this classroom and I am so blessed to be apart of it this year.

Ms. Wendlandt has taught my best friends son. She is absolutely amazing! He has had so many improvements in such a short period of time under her care. She is loving and caring and every teacher should strive to be as awesome as she is!!!
I used to work with children who had autism and just hearing her story, myself being a complete stranger to her, I am taken aback by how much love and patience and caring this amazing teacher probably has. I hope your school wins!

No words can explain how amazing Mrs.Wendlandt is as a teacher and friend! My daughter, Jaylee was beyond blessed to have her as her teacher last year. Not only did Jaylee’s academic scores rise dramatically, but she went above and beyond to ensure that she truly cared for her like she was her own. Jaylee grew to love her and appreciate her for all that she did for her. Their bond was something I never imagined a teacher having with my child. I am so thankful for her help and thoughtful gestures with helping my daughter grow throughout the year. Jaylee had a seizure over the summer and Mrs.Wendlant went out of her way to deliver a goody basket to show that she was thinking about her. That touched Jaylee’s heart so much and to this day she talks about how much she misses and loves Mrs.Wednlandt. To the point she cries that she isn’t in her class this year! I couldn’t ask for a better person to make my daughter feel so special! She has definitely impacted my daughter in such a positive way for a lifetime!

Mrs Wendlant is absolutely worthy of recognition! She has so much heart! Her love for her students is inspiring and contagious. She is their number one advocate! Her room is very organized and welcoming. Her tone is gentle and loving. You walk in her classroom, and every student knows where everything is, how everything works, and they never stop learning!
What is most impressive to me, personally, (because I work in this department), is her love and appreciation for special education students —even the students who aren’t in her room gravitate to her and are welcomed. She goes above and beyond to assure that they KNOW they are loved and she provides them with the tools they need to become confident and successful!
I am super thankful to have met her and to get to be inspired by her as well.
I have known Meghan for a very long time and she has always had a passion for teaching and has always shown so much love and respect to her students. My son Levi smiles from ear to ear and lights up when he speaks about Ms. Wendlant. She takes the extra time working with him and getting to know him. He isn’t a social child and withdraws in a large group. On the playground, she sits with him and talks to him about his interests and it truly has made a huge difference for him. I am looking forward to see how much more he will grow this school year with her.

We had Mrs. Wendlandt last year. She was the best. Our son loved coming to school, loved to learn, and always talked about what he did at school. I love that she invests in the children. They know who she is and she knows who they are.
My son has the pleasure of being on Mrs Wendlandt 1st grade class this year. He’s an “active learner” and has difficulty being still and focusing independently. Mrs Wendlandt has already shown us this year how we will develop through these adversities and rise up!! It was amazing when my son came home and said “Mom reading is so much fun”!!! When our child received a dyslexia and dysgraphia diagnoses, we knew he would need a teacher who was willing to go the extra mile to make sure that he received the personalized help and modifications required to meet his specific learning needs. Mrs. Wendlandt has provided just that. She is patient, willing to learn about his disability and excited to offer new ways of learning so that he can be successful in the classroom and remain confident around his peers. We are so extremely excited about our son's school year and anxious to see the progress that comes from being in Mrs. Wendlandt's classroom. Under the instruction of Mrs. Wendlandt, I truly believe this will be a life changing year for our son.
My son Will was in her class last year, who is special needs (chromosome 1q25.2-31.1 deletion). There are numerous ways she was a life changer in his life, but one example that truly changed the trajectory of his life was when he was terrified to go into the new gym for PE that was built last year. He began eye rolling (develop a tic) every time he was about to walk into the new gym. She noticed, and was a true advocate for him. She notified me, and she made the choice to comfort him and accept his fear and walk him through it with her gentle, calm spirit. She went to administrators and found a way to help him, and not forcing him into that gym everyday. His tic stopped and he began to feel safe at school because of her. This could have turned into something so much bigger for our little boy, and because of her advocacy for him, she helped him overcome. I can go on and on, but she truly loves her students and cares for their every need. She is a life changer for sure, especially in the life of our son. As a special needs mom, you just pray they are in the care of someone who loves them and notices them just as much as you. We have that in Ms. Wendlandt for sure at CES. She is a Life Changer!
Just amazing! Only a month in and I see such an amazing change in my sons education and he adore meghan so so much. She makes the kids feel so loved and the parents so comfortable and keeps the communication very open. Xander is so lucky to have her as a teacher ?

My daughter, Ava, was beyond fortunate to be placed in Mrs. Wendlandt’s 1st grade class. Ava felt safe, loved, and valued. She loved to go to 1st grade and would talk about her teacher all weekend, every weekend. I quickly realized that Ava admired Mrs. Wendlandt so very much...so much so that the last day of 1st grade was pretty rough on Ava.
Mrs. Wendlandt’s love and encouragement yielded an exceptional learning environment. Not only did I watch Ava excel in her academics, I watched her continue to grow as a caring, contributing member of society. The love that the children had for their fellow classmates was so organic and pure, it brings a tear to my eye thinking about it.
Mrs. Wendlandt teaches the curriculum extremely well, but she is exceptional at teaching integrity, compassion, honesty, responsibility, respect, and so much more. Her investments into her students will leave a long-lasting positive impact on their lives. If every child (and parent!) had a Mrs. Wendlandt, the world would undoubtably be a better place.
