Joanne Potts was nominated by her friend, Deborah Rigsby.
Mrs. Potts brings a wealth of experience to her school! She is a former Title I coordinator who created an impactful literacy program and even founded a GED program in her community for adults who wanted to improve their quality-of-life. She encourages students, parents and colleagues with her positive demeanor, and is extremely diligent in fulfilling her responsibilities. Despite any hardships she faces, she always addresses the needs of others before her own.
Previously, Mrs. Potts worked as a supply teacher in a neighboring school district for about five months. She worked tirelessly to ensure her students were engaged, orderly and respectful. Through her dedication and experience with various teaching methods, including differentiated instruction, Mrs. Potts helped students achieve considerable progress throughout the year. Her firm, but encouraging demeanor helped students reach important milestones, both socially and academically.
As a parental engagement coordinator, she assists parents and PTA advocates after school and on weekends. She produces newsletters and informative material, and often works more hours than generally allocated for her position. On several occasions, Mrs. Potts has helped augment duties for others and support school leaders.

Mrs. Potts is a genuine education advocate and consummate professional. She encourages our educators and is committed to the success of our students, schools and communities."
I had the great opportunity of partnering with Mrs. Potts during our Thanksgiving Basket and clothing giveaway at New Covenant Christian Ministry. I was amazed of her professionalism and her stead fast commitment in helping parents and families at Lithonia High School. Mrs. Potts is passionate about making a difference in her parents and families lives. This is evident in her will to seek out community resources that her parents and families can benefit from. She goes above and beyond to ensure her parents and families needs are met.
I contacted Mrs. Potts on a Saturday to share that several of her parents did not pick up their turkeys/ baskets. Mrs. Potts was attending a prior engagement however, she cut it short to personally deliver Thanksgiving Baskets and Turkeys to families that were not able to pick them up within the allotted time frame. She goes above the call of duty, she is caring and nurturing. She has a big heart. Mrs. Potts is deserving of of the Life Changer award.
Mrs. Potts has served as a welcoming and kind spirit to me at Lithonia High School. It is always important to find this kind of continuous welcome when you are new to a school and she serves as a shining example of that warmth. Thank you for all you do.
Mrs. Potts is an excellent choice for this prestigious award. She works diligently at any task given to her. She is very kind to everyone that she meets. She is a true woman of God and she is not afraid to let her light shine. It is indeed a pleasure to have such a team player at our school!

My sister is the most kindest, loving and warmest individual I have ever met, her life since I have know her has been a true dedication to our Lord, weather it’s been bible teaching or serving other she does it as to God the father. I love the wonderful cheerful spirit that surrounds her each time we see one another. I’m sure everything I said about my sister Joann has been said but to me she’s truly like old wine she keeps getting better and better with time.
Mrs. Joanne Potts is a true woman of God. She is such an encourager. Her kindness, tenderness and compassion towards my elderly mother will never be forgotten. The light of the Lord shines brightly thru her.
I met Joanne in the early 90's and since then, she truly has been a friend, mother, counselor and a woman of God. I have never met anyone like Sister Potts. ( that is who we refer to her as ). She is a true sister, physically and Spiritually.
My family and I was being challenged with life issues, and we went to Joanne's church, to seek counseling. When we got there, the people were praying, and we just watched. When they were finished, we asked if someone could help us. We were instructed to talk with Sister Potts .
My life and my family's lives have never been the same since that initial encounter with Sister Potts. I am so glad that God sent us to Joanne's church that day because by the Grace of God, and Sister Potts, we found the Lord. A seed was planted the day we met her, and it took root and grew. My family got saved; my sisters and their families got saved, and some of my friends and their families were saved as well. This happened because Sister Joanne took time to love the broken hearted. She also taught us about Jesus Christ !!!
Thank you Sister Potts for loving us and pointing us in the right direction. You have reached out to countless numbers of people that were broken, fearful, lacking knowledge, confused and hopeless. You were there, and I thank the Lord for placing you in my life. You have no idea of just how many people you've impacted. I am glad to say that I am one of them.
You are so deserving of this award!!!. I know that wherever you go, and wherever God places you, you WILL make a difference in the lives of others.

I've known Joanne Potts for over 36 years. She has truly been an awesome blessing to my family and I . In the early eighties she begin a home bible study, which at the time went from house to house. Sis Joanne was instrumental in allowing God to use her in such a mighty way that caused many to come to know Christ and others to be strengthen in their faith walk. Joanne has been a consistent, tenacious, strong believer in her faith since I've known her. She has made a difference in many lives and continues to be on the move for God.
Mrs. Joanne Potts is the most kindhearted, giving and encouraging person that I've ever meet. She is a woman of faith. Her contribution to the world is, the light that shines around her and through her, inspiring everyone that she comes into contact with. Mrs Potts is a lifechanger.
What a pleasure it is to know Mrs. Potts. She is known as “Mama Jo” to women of all ages within our church congregation, and rightfully so. Mama Jo imparts wisdom and love to everyone that crosses her path. Her passion for children overflows to every area of her life. I work with “At Promise” youth and I sometimes bring my youth to church. Well there is one youth in particular that I brought and Mama Jo took her under her wing without hesitation. She prays with her and they can sit and talk for hours with the youth just asking numerous questions at a time about life and walking upright before God. Mama Jo always patiently answers all of the youth’s posed questions while empowering the youth to be her best self. Mama Jo has touched my life as a 37 year old woman by giving godly counsel, celebrating my successes, and modeling how to live and operate constantly with excellence. She serves very graciously in numerous ministries within our church including the Altar workers, Seasoned Saints, and she is involved with the Arts ministry. Mama Jo is undoubtedly a beacon of light to the community and to the younger generations. She truly personifies what it means to make great impact on others so that those whom she touches and influences can make great impact on the world!!!
Mrs.Joanne has been such a blessing to me. She is one of the most spritual, energetic, cheerful, influential,wisdom-filled people I know. She's truly an inspiration to me and the epitome of a Proverb 31 woman.

Mrs. Potts is all smiles everytime I see her. I have witnessed her working late well after 6 pm plenty of nights as I was leaving the building. I would tell her to go home and her response is always, "Oh, no. I'm going to leave soon. I just need to get the rest of the things set up for the parents." Another reply is, "I just need to get this for the rest of the students and parents." Ms. Potts continuously stays engaged in what's happening not only with the parents but the students as well at Lithonia High School. She has brought more commitment and hard work to Lithonia and we are greatly to have her.

JoAnne Potts, Aunt Jo-Ann is what I’v grown to call her. She’s my aunt through my husband, She’s family. We reside in St.Louis Mo. and every time Aunt Jo-Ann comes to St.Louis it’s a treat. She brings her beautiful smile, her southern hospitality and her great cooking. We love her loving personality. How is it that, when she comes to visit she turns it around and have you feeling like your visiting her with her home cook meals and her loving heart. Aunt-JoAnn is a great woman of God, with a sincere heart. I admire how Aunt-JoAnn is obedient to God and his word. She’s kind, supportive and extraordinaire.
