Aimee Buckley was nominated by her family members, Annmarie Hajduch Jones, Michael Jurewicz, and Tricia Knight

Ms. Buckley is a special education teacher who works with children with Autism. She celebrates with her students achievements and cries with them when they suffer heartache. According to Hajduch Jones, her niece exemplifies everything a teacher today should be.

"She’s stern, yet kind, and her heart is as big as the moon," Hajduch Jones said. "My niece helps students discover their passion. She had a student who loved dinosaurs, so she brought in an archeologist to teach the class all about dinosaurs. She will do whatever it takes to get them motivated. I’ve never seen kids more devoted to a teacher, either."

"It always strikes me how her students light up when they see her.  It also strikes me how she lights up when she sees them," Jurewicz said.

"I’ve even had the opportunity to meet past students," Hajduch Jones. "They were wonderful children, who truly cared about my niece," Hajduch Jones continued. "My niece is also completely devoted to every child that enters her classroom. If you met them, you would see magic."

Aimee is very dedicated to her special needs students. She is innovative in her teaching methods and truly makes a difference in her students’ lives," Knight said.

Teachers working in a high school environment face all sorts of challenges.Students with autism & other disabilities need someone they trust & know is there for them every day. Aimee Buckley is such a teacher. She gives her all to helping her students achieve their goals & discover who they are. There is nobody I can think of who deserves this award more. I worked with Aimee for 7 years at PUSD & her example & dedication to her students & school helped make a difference each day.

I can say as a colleague that everything mentioned above is spot on! One of my favorite lessons she does is mock interviews so her students are ready for the real world. Her fellow staff members come in during their break to play the role on an interviewer. Her students are very lucky to have such an amazingly dedicated teacher!

Aimee is the perfect choice. For years I have watched in admiration as she has supported her students with the same care and kindness of a family.

Mrs J is absolutely the greatest teacher I've ever had. Even though I wasn't the greatest student she still stood by my side and never gave up on me. She doesn't need an award to show has amazing she is. Just ask everyone who knows her. Your the best and thanks again for everything you have done for my brother and I.

I am having trouble finding the words that can accurately capture the type of educator and wonderfulness that is Aimee Buckley. She is truly one of a kind and a model teacher, colleague, and friend. We should all be so lucky to love and to know someone like Aimee; and even luckier to have her as an educator. She is validating, calm, assertive, and an advocate for those who cannot always advocate for themselves. I cannot think of anyone in my life more deserving of this honor.

It takes a person with a special heart to work each day with special needs children and Aimee is that person making a difference in the life of others. She also leads by example in personal areas of her life with the discipline required of earning a Black belt in martial arts and doing extensive training. Aimee gets my vote !
