Trevor Ousey was nominated by his colleague, Julie Woodard.
When Woodard saw the LifeChanger of the Year award, her mind went immediately to Mr. Ousey. He is a band director who is passionate, committed, and dedicated to his school community. On a daily basis, he travels to several elementary schools where he teaches band and makes an impact on the lives of many students.
"His leadership, enthusiasm, organization, and commitment to his kids and profession are what makes him an inspiration to staff, students, and community," Woodard said. "Mr. Ousey is a phenomenal representative of the education profession."
Through effective communication, consistent attendance and participation in student events, Mr. Ousey models a passion for learning and sharing his art.
"He is truly a gift to all those who have the pleasure of working with him; from the students he teaches, to the greater community he serves," said Woodard. "I’m humbled and honored to be a colleague of Mr. Trevor Ousey."
This is the second year my son has been apart of the Cain middle school band under Mr Ousey. Through Mr Ousey’s enthusiasm and commitment to the band program my son has developed a love for band. Mr Ousey consistently goes above and beyond and because of this the band program is exploding with new students and exciting new things. It’s obvious he loves what he does and is changing the lives of these young band students.
This is my son’s second year under Mr. Ousey’s band direction. The band program Mr. Ousey has developed is impressive! I am so thankful for his organization and passion, even for these young/beginning musicians. He puts a high level of clear expectations in front of his students, and he offers every support and tool within his power to help them succeed. His communication with parents is excellent! We feel very empowered and excited to help our son learn and improve. His passion for his work is contagious and we are happy to support his nomination!
Well I support Mr.Ousey because he has helped my son a lot with financial needs or aid through 6th grade and also even right now.My son has learned a lot from him and I am very grateful. He is a great man and teacher. And motivates students to keep going with band.
Mr. Ousey is an outstanding band director. His enthusiasm is contagious and he is a wonderful role model for all of the students. He is interested in the development of the students, not just in band but in every aspect of their lives. He shows personal interest in each of the students and is a role model of compassion and dedication. As a parent of a Cain Middle School band member I can truly say that Mr. Ousey is one of the finest teachers that my daughter has ever had.
Mr. Ousey captures your attention when you first meet him bc of his smile. Thus far that same smile seems to be a constant for him. His enthusiasm has sparked my child to want to apply herself. We are just starting out in band but hear only good things and can’t wait to see these kids blossom under his direction
Mr. Ousey is an outstanding teacher and role model for his students. His cheerful demeanor, work ethic, sense of humor, and high expectations tempered with reason and patience all serve to motivate his students. Band is my child’s favorite class and the main reason she was looking forward to moving up to middle school was that she would have band every day. Mr. Ousey takes his students, their music, their abilities, the band, and his job seriously. It is obvious he works very hard, comes up with creative new ideas and puts in long hours to help his students succeed!
Mr. Ousey is a compassionate and very enthusiastic teacher. My son plays the French horn at Cain MS. He has learned so much not only about band but also about being a leader and team player.
Congratulations on your nomination. You are a part of our great team at Pullen.
I have only known him for a short while but he sure does care about his career and his students. My son plays in the Cain Middle school Band. And I know that James will learn a lot from him!!!
Cain Middle School has a stand out band program thanks to the direction of Mr. Ousey! He has a passion for teaching music that motivates students to learn and grow. Mr. Ousey is outstanding in organizing the program and communicating with students, parents and staff. When I hear the band play I am always amazed at the level of performance our students achieve under his direction!
I have known Trevor for many years, and I have always admired his tremendous dedication to his work, his students, and his community. Regardless of the length of his tenure in a district, the students and staff know and love him! One major example is from his previous district. He was there for only a year, but his presence made such an impact that several years later, a student used Mr. Ousey in his college application as an example of one of his biggest role models. To me, that one student's college application essay spoke volumes about Mr. Ousey's dedication to all of his students. I feel truly honored to know him and to work alongside him.
Trevor Ousey is doing an amazing job as my mentor guiding me through preparation for my first year of teaching. I am so grateful every day that I get to work with a dedicated, intelligent, caring, and hardworking colleague! Observing his work ethic motivates me to be the best educator and member of the Rockwall ISD community that I can be. I know under his leadership that the Cain Mustang Band will continue to grow and achieve excellence and I am so thankful to be part of his team.
Trevor's dedication to the students comes across every day. He first of all creates a rehearsal environment where students feel cared for and appreciated, and are challenged to grow. Second, his logistical running of the band program is impeccable. Third, and most importantly, the music that he selects for students to perform is aesthetically beautiful.
He is also a very supportive colleague in the department. I have worked in other schools where fine arts teachers barely talk to each other, and directors schedule events on top of each others' events with no notice. Trevor contributes to a department atmosphere where teachers support each other and show appreciation of each other's work. I hope to work in departments with colleagues as professional and devoted as Trevor for the rest of my career.
Trevor is truly one of the most dedicated and motivated colleagues around!! He is truly able to build connections with with students and have a positive impact on their life, not only in band but as members of their community.
Mr. Ousey has positively touched the lives of so many students. His passion and dedication to his profession can easily be observed through the connections and relationships he builds with his students, parents, fellow colleagues, and community.
Mr. Ousey is an amazing band director and has improved our band program. He has implemented programs and initiatives to challenge students and encourage them.
Trevor is committed and dedicated to his students and school community. He thoroughly understand the concept of servant leadership and leadership by example. His innovative approach and attention to detail makes not only his students better but his whole school I am incredibly proud that he was nominated by his peers for t his award.
Mr. Ousey is an amazing Band Director. My husband and I have been so impressed by his direction with the students. He is one of a kind and deserves recognition for his talents. Every time we go to a performances we are more amazed each time with the command he has over the band and the way the students follow his lead. He is truly an inspiration and we adore him.
Mr Ousey has truly changed the life of the Cain Mustang Band program in the past two years. I have been fortunate to assist him in the capacity of substitute assistant director ocassionally, observing and participating in the growing program. Prior to Mr Ousey, the parents and students looked to the director to make things happen with fingers crossed they would do well . Now administration, parents, and students are involved in making the band program one of quality without question every year. His leadership has involved everyone in making it all happen. He now has more time and energy to devote to teaching, directing, planning as being involved in the development of every band member. Bravo to a master musician, director, teacher, and community leader.
Mr. Ousey has been an important figure in my daughters band career. Her first year, she was so unhappy with band that she had decided to quit but Mr. Ousey took a personal interest in her and her band career seeing that she had outstanding potential and found a place where he thought she would be better suited. She agreed to try band again and has flourished in the last year. He didn't give up on her even when she gave up on herself. He checks in with her often to see how she's doing. He has definitely been a LifeChanger for my daughter.
