Jessica Castano was nominated by a colleague, Kristiana Karlin.

"Jessica came into my classroom as my assistant and ended up being my 'sister' and lifeline," said Karlin. "During that time, I was struggling with my home life and we were teaching during COVID. She was relentless in her work ethic, dedication, and support with personal and professional issues. That year I spent with her was the most gratifying year of teaching I ever had because I knew I could partner with her and learn from her."

"We formed a bond that can't be broken beyond our occupations and where we live," said Karlin. "She has become part of our family and even came to visit us for Thanksgiving dinner. Since then, we have shared FaceTime and care packages with cards expressing love. I am honored to have her in my life."

"My fondest memories are of the daily routines and watching her guide love the students in our classroom," said Karlin. "She embodies the principles that we aspire to achieve by doing our best and always acting in kindness. When we would start our day with a song, we would dance together, and everyone wanted to hold her hands because she had so much love in her heart."
