"Preach the gospel, and if necessary, use words." I cannot think of any other succinct quote to better describe every DNA strand in Mrs. Harrison's body. I have the privilege of having two middle school daughters under Mrs Harrison and words cannot define the extraordinary measures she continuously shows love, grace, hope, and kindness. She has left a watermark not just on the children around her, but the families as well. A watermark is an impression or pattern in paper that appears in various shades of lightness/darkness when viewed by transmitted light. Her "watermark" far transcends those she directly reaches, and goes to the fundamental principles our youth must have to be spiritually, academically, and professionally successful. Over the years, her words have touched thousands; her actions will affect millions. Mrs Harrison has already achieved the life changer award.

There is so much to say about Mrs. Harrison. She is just about the most inspirational person I have ever met. For example, she leads most of our chapels and I always have an amazing takeaway from it. Mrs. Harrison has given me such encouragement for times when I was struggling. To be honest, there is not really anything else that can describe her other than being such an inspiration to all of our middle school, being a huge light for Jesus to everyone around her, and being such an incredible teacher, colleague, principal, educator, encouragement, inspiration, and so much more. She has also been so much fun and inclusive. She always participates in our Share 2 Wear days, always ready for a flash mob, and just someone who will make you feel welcome while others may not. She is such a godly example to me and my fellow classmates. As 8th graders, we go on a trip to D.C. together and Mrs. Harrison has been telling us about how incredible our experience will be. I put all of my trust into what she says because she has earned it by being apart of my life and wanting to be apart of my life. She is an awesome role model that I would like to follow when I am older.

Mrs. Harrison is an amazing principal! She convinced me to become a better person. When I first came to this school, she asked me “ Why are you a Christian?”. I was surprised that she asked me this question because nobody had ever asked me before. She’s so nice and a brilliant principal. Thank you for helping me get through my transition to middle school.

I am convinced that I could not have had a better principal than Mrs. Harrison was. As I was suffering through depression, she was always available to talk to me and showed compassion when I was going through my toughest days. She went out of her way to provide ways in which she could support me throughout my middle school years. She always prayed with me and provided words of encouragement and wisdom. Mrs. Harrison is a phenomenal woman who helped to get me through my middle school years.

We LOVE Mrs. Harrison! She is a force of love to be recconned with! She is a spiritual giant and we appreciate her leadership, her spirit and her prayers. She loves her students and will do just about anything for them. I have never seen such strength, grace and love all in one woman. Her teachers respect her, the students respond to her and we just think she is amazing! Two defining moments for us: My daughter had a tough year in 7th grade. There was a lot going on to say the least and Mrs. Harrison stood up FOR her, fought for her and her best interest and even went to court for her! Mrs. Harrison spoke in court about my daughter truthfully and with first hand knowledge that she really KNEW her and loved her. We won! She is truly brave and strong! At the Graduation Ceremony this year, the kids were standing up there in their graduation robes. At one point they were supposed to sing the song they made up. It wasn’t just a song with words, it had dance moves too. When the music came on, very few were participating and the song was flopping UNTIL Mrs. Harrison stepped up in front of the student and started singing and dancing reminding them to get into it and have fun with it. At that point, all the students starting singing, dancing, laughing and showing the audience THIER song and dance. It was great! Thank Mrs. Harrison for ALL you DO and ALL you are!

What a privilege it is to work for Heather Harrison. I have been teaching at Mariners for many years now, and I am thankful for all of the administrators I have had the pleasure to work with. Without a doubt though, Heather has impacted my life as a teacher the most. I wouldn't be the teacher I am today if it weren't for this incredible leader. Not only does Heather challenge me to continue to grow in my vocation, but she provides all of the support and encouragement needed to continue to grow as a teacher. Anything I've ever needed - Heather is right there. She is simply the best and I cannot emphasize enough how blessed we are at MCS to have this amazing woman leading our middle school program. Heather not only cares about her staff though, she deeply loves and cares for the students here at Mariners as well. One example of this is how for the past few weeks she has been coming into the 8th grade classes to teach a leadership series. How many administrators do you know would spend the entire Monday for a month straight teaching students what it looks like to lead a school well? Heather Harrison is not only changing the lives of the middle school teachers here at MCS - she is changing the lives of the students as well. We could try to count the number of lives Heather Harrison has changed - but that would be impossible. There's just too many. I can't think of a person more deserving of this award. Heather Harrison is truly a life changer.

Sam Brooks Posted over a year ago

To have an administrator that sees and knows each and every student that walks through her hallways is so rare … and that is Heather Harrison. She walks alongside each student and every staff member on a day to day basis, to show them that she is there with them always. Her actions consistently match with her words and she never compromises her values or beliefs. She knows that there are, at any time, dozens of children that are watching her and learning from her, and she takes the responsibility to lead them well very seriously. Heather meets everyone where they are at, while still encouraging and pushing them to develop their strengths and work on their weaknesses. She sees potential in all and knows how to speak encouragement into all her students and staff members. If there are two words I would use to describe Heather, they would truly be ‘life changer’. She has left a mark on all students she has met and every teacher she has mentored. I am a better teacher and a much better person for knowing Heather.

Mrs. Harrison/Mom, Is a frat role model. When I grow up I want to be just as caring, kind, courageous, and brave as her. She pushes everyone’s limits to test how much room they are willing to grow. Also, she is very good at doing her job but also get to know the kids that she works with. Best of wishes!

Amy Green Posted over a year ago

Two things Heather has taught me in my time working under her leadership are: 1) To know who I am, I have to know whose I am and 2) Culture is caught not taught. Heather is first and foremost a follower of Jesus and it defines her completely. She is obedient to all that the Lord asks of her, even when it is not something she would like to walk through. She teaches our students and staff this idea of identity because she is desperate for people to know and love Jesus. She is not willing to allow any student to be left behind, forgotten or passed over because she sees the value in each person as a child of God. The second idea is that culture is caught not taught. She shepherds her flock at MCS so well by leading by example. She has a desire to create a deep, loyal and committed community at MCS. She has done this not by saying this over and over, but by the ways in which she lives her life. Students and staff have followed her example and she has shifted our culture. She has created a culture of depth, selflessness, and a substantial love of Christ. Heather Harrison is a true life changer, and I am a better person for knowing and being led by her.

Paulette Seaman Posted over a year ago

Heather Harrison embodies the term Life Changer! She genuinely seeks to see every student and staff member with the love and potential that God sees them with, and challenges each of us to do the same. She clearly seeks to follow Jesus’ example in every manner of her life, making her the true definition of a servant leader. Heather strives for excellence in every manner, setting high expectations for each of us, but then coming along side of us to help us reach them. Under her leadership, our school has thrived and our culture has changed. She has earned the respects of students, staff members, and parents alike because it is evident that she has our best interest at heart. There is no length she will not go to with the purpose of caring for our students. People feel comfortable around her, and are willing to open up to her as a trusted source. At the same time, she has an incredible sense of humor and understands how to relate people from all sets of circumstances. Heather takes her calling as leader and mentor seriously, and pours herself out for those under her care. Some of our most prolific chapels are when God places a message on her heart, and she obediently shares with us. These messages often transform the hearts of our middle schoolers and the change on our campus is noticeable. Heather is a master encourager, but is also not afraid to have a hard conversation when necessary, speaking Biblical wisdom and truth into each matter. Both students and staff members have walked away from conversations with her, and experienced pivotal life changes going forward. I am one of them. As an educator, Heather’s mind is sharp as a tack, but she constantly pushes herself to learn more so she can lead us in continuing our quest of being a premier Christian school. She has actually taken on our Professional Developments, and our middle school is better for it! I consider it an honor to work under and with her, and serve Jesus alongside her. God has used Heather in mighty ways to shape the culture of our campus as it relates to a community of students, families, and staff members. She is a difference maker and a Life Changer!

Mrs. Harrison Mrs. Harrison is very nice. She is very patient, and wants what's best for everyone. She is very understanding, when you have a problem she can listen to you and help you through it. You can come to her if you need help, or need to talk about anything. She is a great middle school principal who wants what's best for everyone. She helps our school grow in community, and makes sure every student is happy and never down. She helps with all school activities and makes sure our school is a safe environment. She makes sure everything is ready for our school after summer. She is a very good principle and a very kind person.

Mrs. Harrison has impacted many people everywhere not just me but our whole school community. When I entered junior high I was scared, nervous and always rejected everyone but Mrs. Harrison quickly changed that about me. Instead of just looking on the outside she goes in deeper forming a strong trust and relationship, she sees not what the person is but what they could be. At the beginning of the year Mrs. Harrison always gives a special chaple for us middle schoolers and every year I think she won’t be able to top the last but somehow she does. She impacts others to be the best they can be, to be themselves and not be scared or ashamed of what others think or say. Many times when I mess up she does not get frustrated but instead helps me find my mistake and correct it so that I can do the best I possibly can. I love Mrs. Harrison so much, she has impacted me and our whole school in ways I never imagined.

Vili Nakamoto October 1, 2018 Mrs. Harrison Mrs. Harrison has made a huge impact on my life when I came to this school in fourth grade. At the first chapel of this school year, she told us to impact to reach. She told us that we should put on Gods filter and not ours. She has been a huge help to me in sixth grade when i couldn’t find any of my classes. Mrs. Harrison has also been an example showing others how to live as a christlike character. In conclusion, Mrs. Harrison is a great example of a leader and a humble servent.

Mrs. Harrison has impacted me and the school in so many ways. One way that she has impacted me is when I was having a hard time with other teachers she just encouraged me to keep on going. Now I look and school with new and improved eyes. Also she can relate to so many students in middle school because she had a hard time in middle school too. Whenever I just need a hug or some encouragement she is always there for me. When I grow up I want to be just like her because she is such a good leader and person. Mrs Harrison has definitely made an impact on me for years to come with her leadership skills and her Godly character.

Mrs. Harrison is a great example to her peers and shows christ like qualities. The entire time I knew knew her she has lifted my spirits whenever I feel down and is a true friend to her students. She is funny, caring, and a beacon of light to everyone she sees. Mrs. Harrison has know problem going into great detail about stories she tells to teach a lesson. This life changer has shaped me into a more organized me and I couldn’t be more grateful. In conclusion, these are the reasons why Mrs. Harrison is a life changer and how she is a special friend.

Mrs. Harrison My Principal Mrs. Harrison ia an amazing person, and i'm so glad she is my principle. She has been so helpful in nemours ways, i'm so thankful for her. One time during chapel i was not very interested at the beginning and i was not really listing, but once Mrs. Harrison started to talk i was very eager to listen to her. The first chapel of the year was the best one yet, she talked about our filters and how we look at other people. She included how we were looked at by others and that we have to be respectful and know that we are reflecting God. overall i am so thankful for Mrs. Harrison and am sad this is my last year with heras my Principal.

Barrett Mcguire Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Harrison has impacted my life in many ways. One way she did this was at the chapel at Rock Harbor this year. She made me realize how important it is to see things through God’s filter and to trust his opinion on things. Before that chapel I had never really thought about seeing things through a filter that was not mine but now I see how important it is to see things through God’s filter. Also she made me realize how I need to step up and be a good leader for the younger classes. And also how I need to set a good example for the younger classes.

She is a kind, loving, hard working, smart, nice woman of God. Mrs. Harrison has been so good to me through the ups and downs of my time at Mariners Christian School. I love hearing her preach the word of God to us and though us everyday of the year. She is always encouraging and she is always there for you. She is very knowing and she loves all of us so much. I have gotten in trouble quite A bit and she has always been there for me. I'm so glad that she got this award and I hope she can have a great year.

Mrs.Harrison has helped change my life in several ways. She is very insperational and last year in 7th grade she inspired me to take a class on leadership. She also inspired me to start taking school more seriously. She encourages people to live a life with God. as an 8th grader she has helped me have more faith in God and take school more seriously. It is obvious that MCS would not be the same without her.

Great Things Mrs. Harrison is the kind of person you would always want to be around. She is always quick to correct her mistakes, and is the one who calls you out because she believes you can do it. She makes chapel alot more exciting. Se has the attitude of everything is possible in the eyes of God. Even when we get in trouble she is the kind of person that won't get mad at you she will just be disappointed of the decision you made. She won't yell at your she will just need what she needs to say in a calm action saying just enough for it to stick with you so you won't do it again. Mrs.Harrison is the best, caring, loving, principle that i have ever had. For being the head of a bunch of middle schoolers she makes her job look easy.

Ms. Harrison Ms. Harrison has taken her time to talk to us about god. There has been good and bad times with her but she always handles it the way it should have been handled. She has talked about her life and how she finally wanted to spend her life and how she wanted to do it. No matter how she said it or said anything it made sense in many ways. Ms. Harrison is a great inspiration in many ways such as talking to us some of them i dont agree with but it ends up always working in the end. She is kind thoughtful fun and always there for you when you are down or not feeling like yourself.

Mitch Bahnsen Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Harrison is a true inspiration. She is an example of someone who displays a Christ-like attitude. She is patient and forgiving, but also strong and courageous. When someone messes up or misbehaves, she will talk them through and try to understand what happened, and will try to teach us what the right thing to do is, rather then just punishing us. She is an individual who fully, truly cares wholeheartedly about our school community and environment. For that reason, she deserves this award.

I have seen Mrs. Harrison’s love and passion for being the principal at MCS for 5 years, and she is definitely a life changer. She is very passionate about everyone at MCS and cares for us, so much that she talks to us every Monday about what it is like being a leader and how we can be one. She has impacted everyone’s life, including mine, to be followers and ambassadors of Christ and to look at everything with a biblical worldview. In our chapels, she tells us about what our roles are in the school and how we can change MCS. Mrs. Harrison definitely deserves an award for being a great principal and impacting many lives at MCS.

As I stepped inside Mariners Christian School, I was overwhelmed by the construction and I didn’t know what to do as there were no kids there in the school. That day was when my family had to interview the principle of the school, and in my mind, I was thinking of different responses that she was going to ask me. We went inside a room and we were greeted warmly by the principal, Mrs. Harrison. She treated us with kindness and respect, as she asked us questions with thoughtfulness. Then she asked us, “What does it mean to be a Christian for you?” We were all silent, because we were not deeply religious. It also felt like she knew that we were not really devout Christians, since our answers to her questions shaped the views of us. After the interview, she warmly thanked us, said goodbye, and we left. Then, it was the first chapel of the year. After worship, Mrs. Harrison talked to the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders about the different filters that we saw through life, and how we need to see the filter of God. I thought about what she said, because my whole life was based on the filters of the world. Through the world’s filter, we sinned and did bad deeds. Realizing this, I vowed to change my life and live with God in my heart. Mrs. Harrison speech about the filters led my life into Christianity, and she has inspired me ever since that day of the chapel. She has changed and shaped my life with the influence of Christ.

Andrew Sutherland Posted over a year ago

Mrs Harrison once told me that she was given a choice to keep being who she was or to change and be better. In the same way I feel she gave me a choice back in 6th grade. She told me that she didn’t want me to be a bad person who is not thoughtful. She saw something in me that I thought I couldn’t be. She saw me with potential to be more. I left her office somewhat annoyed because I didn’t want a choice I wanted an answer. But I came to realize that she was not giving me a choice, but a way to the life that I needed. This choice made me realize I wanted more for my life, and that the path I thought I wanted was not reality it was a lie. And now, I try to be my best self every second that I can.

Mrs. Harrison is a life changer. She sets an extremely positive influence on Mariners Christian School. All the students here at MCS feel loved and accepted because of her willingness to reach out to us. She is definitely no ordinary principal. She doesn’t simply punish students, but she helps teach and guide them to make the right decisions. Mrs. Harrison is a principal students are not afraid of. Her compassion and kindness for middle schoolers is unfathomable. She encourages her students and urges them try new things instead of only caring about herself. As an 8th grader I am extremely thankful for such an amazing selfless principal. Here at MCS I feel safe, encouraged, grateful, and elated because of all the love Mrs. Harrison puts into our school. As a result, absolutely no one can compare to how amazing our principal is.

Heather Harrison is a difference maker! Why? Because she is faithful to serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s an honor to work under her leadership and care. She shepherds her students as well as her staff. She believes that God has great things planned for each and every one of us so she encourages growth in all of us. She is intentional about providing opportunities that create community, learning, and growth. She's not one to be satisfied with status quo because she knows we are capable of more. I can honestly say, Heather has single-handedly changed our middle school culture because of her willingness to hear and act on God’s call. She leads with purpose, believing deeply in her students' talents and abilities. It's a privilege to watch her work. Because of her faithfulness, our school is a better place. Students know that they truly belong to the middle school community. They know they are valued and cared for. They know they are made in God's image for reason and purpose. As a staff member, I am incredibly grateful to work for this amazing woman. She loves her students and community deeply, her wise council shepherds the flocks, and her servant's heart radiates strongly throughout the hallways. Heather Harrison is a life changer!

Mrs. Harrison is an amazing principal! She walks around trying to know as much about you as possible. If you go into her office for help, she will help you as much as she can. Today she was walking to some 6th graders saying hi to them and being nice. I have seen her help people and she has also helped me by asking if I knew where to go. For the 6 years I have been in elementary, I have never met a nicer or better principal. For my first chapel of 6th grade I thought she was just going to say something from a paper, but she just said it from her mind. Then I thought she just memorized it, but the way she spoke it out loud that impacted my heart to believe that God sent it to her. I have seen how people look up to her as a great leader, and I do too. She is a great leader and is a very good disciple of God. I'd like to thank her for all the work she's done to impact people's lives. THANK YOU!!!!!

She cares for the students she will do anything in her power to help just one kid out of 288 people. That is amazing that she does that. She loves the lord with all her heart. Also she try's to know all of the students names. It was the first week of middle school and she comes into our math class and says to me "Zach what are you working on." And I was like wow. I have worked under many administrators in my career as a science teacher, even ones I thought were incredible. Heather blows them out of the water. She has a passion for education that is unmatched. She has a servants heart that shows she is not there for herself, or just because she likes being in charge. She pushes her staff and every student hard, but from a place of love. She wants everyone to be successful, not just academically but in life and she has no problem calling us out to help mold us into who we can become. She makes teaching and learning fun, whether it be teaching the staff a dance or dressing like Wonder Woman for picture day. Heather knows every student....not just like their names, but the strengths and their struggles. With this connection she reaches into each student's life with a personal connection that allows her to push them where they did not know they could be pushed. I don't know how she does it all, especially with a TKer, middle schooler, and high schooler at home, but she does it, and she does it exceptionally. What a blessing it is that the heart of our school is such a heart as hers. Few people I can think of have had such a strong impact on so many lives....she truly is a life changer!

In my 1 year here in being in middle school, Mrs. Harrison has motivated me through her talks at chapel. I remember her talk at Spiritual emphasis, it touched me emotionally. The most impactful lesson that she taught me was to have Gods filter on. She taught us that you should always have Gods filter on because it´s good to see through His eyes. Mrs. Harrison has played a big part in middle school life.

So I didn’t have the best grade because of it and some people thought that I should repeat 6th grade but Mrs. Harrison said that I did not have to. So now I am in 7th grade with all A’s and my diabetes is getting so much better. So I thank Mrs. Harrison for letting me go into 7th grade.

One memorable part of being at MCS with Mrs. Harrison was, one time last year (6th grade) i got in trouble. Instead of Mrs. Harrison being upset and disappointed in me she just helped me to not make the same mistake again. Mrs. Harrison also listens to everyone and every little comment, she makes sure to be uplifting and loving. Personally i look up to Mrs.Harrison as a role model because she has turned this warehouse/school into a place where we can come and be joined by God every second of our day.

Mrs. Harrison’s amazing act I remember one time when I had a big problem. I had a big problem and she was there to help me. I was being put down a grade, and she was there to help. Mrs. Harrison was there to help. You see, I was constantly tired of doing homework and would not do it. And no matter what happened i would try getting out of it or just pretend it was not there. When the last day of school came regret started bottling up inside me. Why did I not just get it over with or do it anyway. But Mrs. Harrison fought for me and now I am in the same grade with the same friends but one thing changed my attitude toward homework. I was given special support to help me achieve more and Mrs. harrison reminded me that she would always be in her office and there if i needed help or felt too stressed ever again. I remember one time when i had a big problem. I had a big problem and she was there to help. I was being put down a grade and she was there to help. Mrs. Harrison was there to help.

You bring this light to this school everyone is very lucky to have you as our middle school principal. Your daughters are very lucky to have you as a mother. And your daughters are very loving as well. I wonder where they get it from. I love when you do chapels, it’s so meaningful. My favorite chapel that you’ve spoken in was the one about “filters” and how you shouldn’t hide your true self. And that really impacted me and that I shouldn’t hide my identity. I’m now being my true self around other people and I like it. And whenever I see you, you're always smiling. I just want to say thank for everything you have done for this school. Throughout my journey of life, Mrs. Harrison has abundantly impacted my journey from elementary school to junior high variously. For example, towards the middle of summer, me and my parents attended a conference that Mrs. Harrison was holding. I felt nervous about going to the school, how I was going to do in the conference, and if I could get into the school. But when I was in the conference room speaking with my parents and Mrs. Harrison, I felt at home and felt comfort somewhat in between. And when I got into the school, I felt happy and knew that this was the school meant for me. And every so often, I see Mrs. Harrison smile at me and it makes me appreciate her.

I have never worked for an administrator who cares more about her staff and students than Heather Harrison does. Day after day she continually gives from herself, even during and after the longest of days, for the whole development of her teachers and students. She always has time to teach a life lesson or have a conversation that will make a lasting impact. She has worked harder than anyone of us could imagine to build a positive culture at Mariners Christian School, where students are cared for, loved, accepted, and built up, not only by their teachers, but by each other. She would go to the ends of the Earth for her students and staff! Not to be lost in her work accomplishments is the fact that she is an incredible mom and supportive pastor's wife. I never take for granted how blessed I am to work for her, and I can think of no award that could better describe her than "Life changer of the Year!"

It has been said that ‘knowing’ is less about facts and more about the space we create for relationship. Heather Harrison is a master of the art of relational leadership. She has impacted her work community to understand and prioritize the importance and skill of creating space for relationship. And out of this foundational philosophy, she has changed the lives of coworkers, children and families. In a culture, society and community that has adopted an ever increasing pace of life at the cost of joy in the hearts of everyone around us, Heather has taught, trained, demonstrated and implemented a way of moving that has breathed life into every one of the hundreds of people in her daily circle. I am thankful that she sees through the minutia and understands the foundational significance of relationship, for not only is she a life changer but she has helped us to become life changers also.

Heather Harrison is a breath of fresh air to her middle school students as well as to her staff. Teaching middle school can be challenging because each day is different from the other depending on how the students are growing and what struggles they are going through. Mrs. Harrison has modeled for us how to show up, be present, and conquer each day, one at a time with confidence and care. She consistently models how to be in the lives of middle school students while keeping a professional boundary that offers the safety that students need. She knows each and every student by name, knows their personalities, likes, dislikes, and other intricacies. She is able to do this because she takes time. You can scarcely find Mrs. Harrison in her office, as she is usually in the hallways, outside with students, or in the classroom observing and teaching. Mrs. Harrison cares about the progress of students and knows that it lies in the hands of her teachers. Every week she prepares professional development lessons for the staff to learn more about teaching strategies and ways to improve all in an effort to ultimately help students grow into the best men and women they can be. She challenges students to look to the future and set personal goals for what they want out of life. She spends time sharing her faith and challenges students to grow in theirs while making it meaningful and age-appropriate. It is an honor to teach under the lead of Mrs. Harrison, and even more of an honor to recommend she be recognized for her amazing contributions to education and the world beyond!

I have the unique opportunity of working with Mrs. Heather Harrison. It is my privilege to see day in and day out, Heather’s heart for students, parents and staff. Intently praying with, listening to and encouraging students through life’s daily issues while strengthening their hearts and minds for their future. It is not uncommon for students to seek Mrs. Harrison out during the day if they have an issue in their life, whether it be academic, about friendships, or just a fun story to share, confiding in her, matters most important to them. Not only a listening ear to students, she partners with parents to help their student become the best version of themselves. As a mother of three, she is a parent first and foremost. Always with an open door and open heart as she listens to and counsels families. Heather is a leader and mentor in the true sense, as she works with staff, molding and creating a middle school with one mind and heart for the benefit of the students entrusted to them. She has created a culture of joy, peace and purpose as we work together as a team throughout the day. Whether it be teaching, preaching or organizing a flash-mob (staff or students), Heather rolls up her sleeves and commits her whole heart for the benefit of others. It is impossible to list all that she does in a day, the lives she touches, and the hearts that are changed, without a thought or concern for herself. I wholeheartedly, without reservation, recommend Heather Harrison for the Life Changer Award. Simply put, it’s who she is.

Leadership takes many forms and looks different in various organizations. However, the common feature of good leadership is a genuine concern and respect for the people under a leader's care. When true care is the nature of a leader, this leader can challenge and lead a team to accomplish goals that are otherwise unobtainable. Heather Harrison is genuine in her care and respect for her team and for the students in her care. As a result, she has been able to lead her team to grow in unity, to continually raise the level of academic excellence of all students, and to create a school environment in which all students feel they have a place where they are accepted and belong.

Heather is an incredible leader to both her teachers and students. She inspires her teachers through outstanding, relevant professional development that has real, long lasting impact in the classroom. Heather is also able to still get into the classroom, teaching our 8th grade students each year valuable life-changing lessons on leadership and empowering them to be impactful leaders on our campus. Her greatest impact as an Lifechanger however is the genuine love and care she shows each and every student that enters her office, says hi to her in the hallway or listens to her powerful chapel messages. There is no better person more deserving for this Lifechanger award then Heather!

Heather is an amazing example of a servant leader. She walks along side her staff and every student. Staff and students willingly join her in her vision for Middle School at MCS. My current favorite (there are many!) thing she is doing is regarding our 8th graders. She has spent the last two Mondays teaching and walking through what leadership looks like with them. This will culminate in our 8th grade commissioning chapel in a few weeks. Our 8th students will be commissioned to be leaders on campus and in their community, prayed over by parents, students, and staff, and sent out to lead. As a parent of a student that experienced this last year, I can truly say it was a formative experience. Mrs. Harrison is a LifeChanger in SO MANY ways!

Heather Harrison has very literally changed our lives and the life of our son Zeke. Last year, under Mrs. Harrison’s leadership and guidance he has been able to exceed our hopes for him both academically and extracurricularly. He began his competitive surfing career last year and still managed to maintain a high GPA and receive the honorable Lion’s Pride Award. These accomplishments would not have been possible without the unwavering support and creative leadership of Mrs. Harrison. Rather than maintain the status quo in on-campus expectations, she allowed flexibility in Zeke’s schedule. Yet, was a force of encouragement that drove Zeke to do his best in all he did. This year, she created a program for Zeke that has never existed at MCS. It is allowing him to pursue his career in surfing, homeschool part time, attend class at MCS, and participate in the 8th grade events that make MCS so special. I have never seen leadership like hers. I have never seen my son thrive like he is. Mrs. Harrison’s passion and love for her students in unmatched. I cannot imagine anyone deserving this award more than her!

I can't think of a better person to be nominated for this award. Heather leads with her heart followed by wisdom, experience and grace. She is respected by parents, faculty and students and let's be honest to be respected and adorned by students in 6th-8th grade is a feat to behold. As the middle school principal, she took time to invest in my son when he was struggling. She saw his struggle, his desire to be better and decided to walk alongside him and provide him tools to better assimilate in the classroom, socially and beyond. She wanted the best for him and decided to meet with him weekly to discuss the on-goings from his week, strategized ways to work on his behavior together with methods to implement and experiment. She helped him to own his actions, decisions and the potential outcome thereof. She was a catalyst to his self-confidence and self-worth. She will always have a highly regarded place in our home because she paused, invested in a child's intrinsic need to be seen, heard and cared for. I know of her deepest desires is for her students to feel safe to make mistakes and truly learn, be connected, provide a platform for them to express themselves, build character, create community and birth leaders. Hands down, Heather Harrison, is a Lifechanger; it is who she is and called to be. Thank you Heather for not shying away from such a huge call but embracing it with compassion, knowledge, love and grace.

Heather meets the definition of a life changer in what she does to help students and what she does to help teachers help their students. Heather is committed in every way to helping students. For example, every year she begins with a training for 8th graders to help them be leaders. She is never satisfied with going through the motions, but makes each year and each training unique to the class. She also has a series of donuts and dialogue with students at the end of the year to see how things can be improved at the school. Her passion for helping students is contagious, as she opens each year as the chapel teacher, giving a vision for the year. Heather is a passionate educator whose mantra is "what's good for students" She take pride in training up other leaders on the staff, and promotes opportunities for them to grow through professional development so they can be "life changers"too. Her work ethic is unmatched, and she demands a strong commitment from the teachers to do what is best for the students. The middle school students love Heather because she is authentic and vulnerable with them. They know she always has their best interest in mind, even in discipline. As a life-changing leader, she also has a great sense of humor, planning highly choreographed dances for both teachers and students to perform. Overall, Heather is a life-changer in every sense of the word.

Heather Harrison is a life changer and difference maker to anyone she encounters. She is approachable to all students, parents, and staff. She sees everyone as valuable and worthy of her time and energy. Her integrity and gracious nature make students feel safe to go to her in times of concern and they respect her because they know she has their best interest in mind. No matter what it takes, Heather will do what is best for the kids. She takes the time to invest in the students beyond just making sure they are behaving. For instance, she taught a class to all 8th graders in the beginning of the year to help set the tone for what it looks like to be leaders on our campus. She is honest and loving and because of this the students respond. That group of 8th graders stepped up and left a legacy that will help shape the culture of the classes coming up to middle school for years to come. This is just one example of how Heather Harrison is a life changer, but it is only scratching the surface. Heather meets the students where they are at and helps to meet the unique needs of individuals academically, emotionally, and socially. She understands middle schoolers and is able to show them love in an often difficult stage of life. This is such a pivotal time in the life of many individuals, which makes the impact of Mrs. Harrison that much more significant. Heather Harrison has already changed many lives and I can only imagine the countless lives she will continue to touch in years to come.

I can’t think of a person more deserving of this award. An administrator who sees her role as a calling, Mrs. Harrison goes above and beyond, and as a result, she is a true life changer. Mrs. Harrison doesn’t just see her students as students - she sees them as uniquely created and worthy of dignity and respect, full of potential to change the world. She takes the time to know and understand her students, investing in them and seeking to instill in them a sense of value and worth middle schoolers so desperately need. Working hard to make Mariners a joyful and safe place to learn and grow, Mrs. Harrison holds her students and staff to high standards, and sets them up for success by making those standards clear, providing tools, development, and leadership opportunities, and modeling those standards in her own professional and personal life. Additionally, whenever students or staff need to talk, Mrs. Harrison stops to listen regardless of what she has on her plate, taking steps to understand the situation and provide encouragement and direction. As someone who has had the privilege of working with Mrs. Harrison, learning from Mrs. Harrison, and seeing firsthand the impact she has had and continues to have on both students and staff, I fully support and champion her nomination for Life Changer of the Year!

Changed lives -- I've seen them year after year under Heather Harrison's faithful leadership, even in middle school, which for many young people is the most awkward and difficult time of life. Students who come in doubting, unsure, even broken find hope, healing, and purpose in what lies ahead for them. Students who arrive with confidence and eagerness find an ally and encourager in Mrs. Harrison. Frequently, she reminds parents and teachers, "We do what's best for students." Her wisdom and creativity in doing this is exceptional. Sometimes it means crafting individualized programs for students who struggle or lack confidence. Sometimes it means changing course midstream, expanding events so more can be included, or trying out a student's suggestion during a lunchtime rally. Often, (and this is important for middle schoolers), it means including crazy fun which brings students together with each other and with both older and younger people around them. Always it means listening to students, assuring them they're heard, and then answering with wise and steady direction. Mrs. Harrison's excellence in educational practices is surpassed only by her passion for the hearts and lives of her students. She will laugh with them, cry with them, challenge them, and dance with them! And -- they respond! Many people can be in charge, but being a leader means there must be followers. Because of Heather Harrison's strong and loving leadership, her students follow her lead, and their lives are unquestionably changed in a lasting and positive way.

Despite my working in 4 different states, and in many more schools, I have never seen an administrator, or teacher, pour into students with so much love and wisdom. Heather is really there for the kids. Not just to organize them and keep them behaving in school, but to raise them as people and leaders. She cares about their hearts and their souls and has an amazing ability to drop everything and speak into kids in a way that meets them where they need to be met. Sure she is a busy principal, but she sets aside ways and times to be with the kids. Whether this be teaching leadership classes to our 8th graders, guiding students on field trips, or just feeling called to affirm students in the hall, she will not miss an opportunity to grow our students. She is also a listener, who values the insight of both staff and students alike. Her open door is for anyone who needs to be heard or need help. Beyond the drop-ins, she builds in times for people to speak what is on their minds. She values the views and experiences if her staff and the students and uses the experiences of all to continually improve the culture of the students. While bold and courageous in her leadership, her spirit is so humble and kind. A tough principal she has no problem making herself vulnerable by sharing what is really on her heart, authenticating her genuine love for her staff and students. In closing, you cannot interact with Heather without being changed. She has an innate ability to know what people need and to say what people need to hear in order to become better students, teachers, citizens, and leaders. Heather Harrison is truly a life changer!

Mr. Saulic's description is beautifully written and is an authentic assessment of Heather Harrison. He wrote, "She helps us see the good, truth, and beauty in our children." This statement resonates with me as a mom of rising 7th grader. First and foremost, she's a committed professional who cares about her students inside and outside of the classroom. She makes it a habit to truly know her students. Mrs. Harrison connected with my daughter in such a way that my child trusts her, she is comfortable with her, and she loves her. She knows that Mrs. Harrison has her back, and she is never nervous about being called to the office. In fact, the students at MCS enjoy stopping by Mrs. Harrison's office. When she says she has an open door, she truly means it. Every year, Mrs. Harrison conducts dessert and dialogue with the students, and each meeting is packed with students. They actually enjoy being around her and talking to her. She loves her students like they are her own. She's invested in their lives. They know she cares about them. My daughter's transition into middle school couldn't have been better. Thanks to Mrs. Harrison, my daughter entered middle school with confidence and continued to grow throughout the school year. It is 100% true that Heather Harrison excels as a life-changer at Mariners Christian School, but her impact goes far beyond the campus. She's been at the helm in leading our students in outreach both locally and internationally. For the last several years, she's lead the charge to connect and bless a school in Uganda. Several students have followed her lead and begun outreach ministries of their own. Not only has my daughter been blessed by her leadership, our community has been blessed by her leadership, but I have been blessed, as well. I am a middle school teacher on her staff. She leads us in such a way that drives us to want to become better. We thrive under her guidance, and we are stretched as professionals. Heather is invested in the lives of people she encounters. She truly is a life changer!

My daughter has said it many times - "Mrs. Harrison SEES us. She really sees who we are and she speaks to that place in us." Heather Harrison doesn't just raise the bar for her students academically. She fights for them to be who they truly are emotionally, socially, and spiritually. She gets that the middle school years are truly a "middle ground" that can be full of awkwardness, questioning, and identity shaping moments (good or bad). She stands with her students in all of these places and lovingly supports them, reminds them and challenges them to remember who they are and to walk in that identity. She steps out in front and guides them with love and strength that gives the students the courage to follow. She is vulnerable and is not afraid to lead from a place of authenticity and allowing her students to SEE her. In an era of image curation and obsession with how we are perceived, Heather Harrison has shown her students that you can live with joy and courage and passion and be silly and have fun and be intelligent and love God boldly when the pressure is to project an image that is perceived as "popular". A phenomenal example of this was at graduation when the student band was performing "Shake Your Groove Thing." This song was very special to their class, as it had been a flash mob song that Mrs. Harrison helped the 8th graders learn a dance to in order to kick off the 7th & 8th grade dance. The music started playing at graduation, but as all the 8th grade students stared straight into a large audience, you could see their courage to get up and dance in a formal environment was waning. A few students started to really "shake their groove thing" and do that dance, but they were noticeably the minority. About half way through the song, Mrs. Harrison marched right up on the stage and started to do the moves with those students. This act shouted, "You are not alone. I am with you." And, it gave courage to the students who wanted to dance but felt unsure about stepping out boldly. Heather is the middle school principal you pray your children get to have.

Heather Harrison is an exceptional human being. Students can count on her to be their wise counselor, a listening ear, the defender of high standards and values, a flash mob coordinator, and a consistent source of unconditional love. Kids know she believes in them, even when they don’t have faith in themselves. Her staff of teachers feel supported and cared for by her as she encourages them to keep growing and developing their craft. She inspires them to be their best in all they do. I should know. I’m one of her teachers and my own children have benefited countless times from her leadership. Heather Harrison is a true life changer.
