LifeChanger of the Year Nominee Profile

Katie Hughey was nominated by her aunt, Linda Garrett.

Mrs. Hughey wanted to be a teacher since she was a young girl. Garrett watched her grow up, and she even taught her when she was a fourth grade student. Throughout her teenage years, Ms. Hughey helped her aunt organize her classroom year after year. She worked her way through college and has been employed by Mesquite ISD since graduating. She received her Masters' degree two years ago and always strives for excellence.

"Katie is an asset to the educational system," Garrett said. "She spends time developing creative lesson plans for her students and inspires a love of reading in her students. I love the way that she shops thrift stores and garage sales to add books to her classroom Library. Mrs. Hughey is a dedicated teacher!"
