Peaches Turner was nominated by her colleague, Frank McGriggs.
Dr. Turner holds the title of School Counselor at Sherman Avenue Elementary School in Vicksburg, MS. Although school counselor is her main title, she performs several other roles, including
- Testing Coordinator/Administrator;
- School Service Provider for homeless students;
- Mentor to new teachers, and;
- "School Mother" to students who need extra attention.
She has gone above and beyond the call of duty on several occasions to ensure the needs of her students are met. Dr. Turner solicits the help of many benefactors to fill the clothing closet at Sherman, so that all students can be properly clothed with the appropriate uniform attire. She has also provided students with supplies and backpacks when needed on several occasions.
When it comes to counseling, Dr. Turner's knowledge, skills, and abilities are second to none. She provides students with opportunities to express themselves in unique ways using the latest psychiatric and counseling techniques.
"She changes the lives of students by giving them a sense of self-worth and confidence that they would not have otherwise developed without her services," McGriggs said. "Dr. Turner promotes peace and unity among her colleagues. She is a bridge to the community in that she promotes community involvement within school programs and projects. Dr. Turner has changed many lives and continues to make her mark in her school and community."
