Qynn McCann was nominated by her colleague, Kim Clemmons.
Officer McCann has been the Chief of Police and school resource officer at Roosevelt ISD for 22 years and is a beloved member of her school and community. You would be hard pressed to find someone who does not like, love or respect Officer McCann.
Officer McCann is responsible for keeping over 1,000 students and staff safe in her district. Roosevelt ISD is a rural district on the East side of Lubbock County serving a diverse population of students that is almost 80% economically disadvantaged. She does the job of Police Chief well, but what sets her apart is her personal mission to get to know every student and their family. Students learn the importance of law enforcement in Pre-K, because Officer McCann meets with them and lets them get to know her and ask questions.
"Many of our troubled or high risk students end up calling her their 'School Mom' because she takes the time to get to know them and 'adopt' them at school," said Clemmons. "She keeps up with their grades and activities, and sets goals with them to succeed. If they are hungry, she feeds them; if they fall, she picks them back up; if they need someone to listen, she is always there."
Many of Officer McCann's "adoptees" are having success in the real world because of her influence. One student in particular, a very precocious 6th grade girl, despised police officers due to her family’s negative experience and perceptions, and made it very clear how she felt about the police. Officer McCann patiently got to know this young lady, and because of her influence, she grew into an excellent student, graduated and is now a registered nurse.
"I have no doubt that if Qynn had not invested her time in this student, she would not be where she is today," said Clemmons. "She knows that being a cop is not always about enforcing the law, but it is also about building relationships."
Officer McCann is always willing to step up and help anywhere in the district. She volunteers to do elementary lunch duty, so there is a presence of safety during that time. She attends sporting events and helps with outside events hosted by clubs and groups. Officer McCann will even step in the office and answer the phone if a secretary is out.
"Qynn has impacted so many lives in our district," said Clemmons. "She loves her job, her school and her community. She is a tough cop when she needs to be, a school mom, a role model, a community leader and a wonderful volunteer and friend. Officer McCann is truly a LifeChanger!"

Some of us are quick to label students "trouble," but Officer McCann sees through their behaviors and attitudes and helps those students live up to their potential, despite their backgrounds. The more I get to know Qynn, the more I just love her. She exemplifies what it means to GIVE to a community. She runs clocks at games. She supports every event that happens at Roosevelt, whether it is academic or athletic or something in between. We recently had a death in our extended Roosevelt family. She took on the job that normally belongs to our HS secretary: attendance and substitutes. Even though it's a huge job, she did it with grace and a big smile. I have been in the teaching field for many years, and have taught in 4 different districts. This is my first year at Roosevelt, and I have never met anyone who takes the safety of their campus, staff, and students any more seriously than Officer Qynn! She really stood out to me during "new teacher orientation" as someone who truly cares about people, and my opinion has only grown stronger as I've watched her in action at Roosevelt. Her relationship with many of our students is incredibly admirable and her presence around our entire campus makes me feel safe. She is definitely deserving of this nomination!

Roosevelt Elementary students and staff alike are blessed to have Qynn as an officer on our campus. Not only does she work dilligently to ensure the safety of everybody in our district, but also remains active in our extra curricular activities. She is visible and supportive throughout the district and is always willing to assist in any way she can. I have seen first hand the commitment Qynn has for this school and community. I have yet to come across and individual that has such a unique combination of attributes that make her the perfect SRO. First, she holds all stakeholders accountable - kids, teachers and even administrators - ensuring that they do their job. She has such a keen eye and is a stickler for detail - it seems that she is sometimes in two places at once. Secondly, she is able to build such powerful and trusting relationships with everyone. She loves and cares for these kids like nobody else - and the best thing about it is that it is a TOUGH LOVE. The kind of love and attention so many of our kids need. Every school needs a Qynn McCann, but nobody can have ours.

No one goes above and beyond for the benefit of others that Chief McCann. Many of our students come from troubled family situations. Chief McCann is, in many situations, the "mom" in their lives. While her number one duty is to keep us all safe, she does so much more than that. She helps with hospitality rooms for various events on campus, she organizes graduation ceremonies, she counsels, she disciplines, the list goes one and on, but most of all she loves. The number of people/students that she has been THE LifeChanger for....well, I can't imagine, but those students are out there, being productive citizens, in large part due to the efforts of Chief Qynn McCann.
Officer McCann Is Roosevelt ISD. She knows so many staff and students, is at almost all of the campus activities, always has a smile and positive comment. She is so deserving of the LifeChanger of the Year award. Over the twelve years I have worked with her, I have seen the changes she has made in so many lives by interacting so positively with these children.
Quinn always greats every person she sees with a smile. She is caring and truly wants what is best for her fellow employees and for our kids. Her number one priority is to keep us safe, and next is to make sure we know we are cared about. She is kind, positive, and truly a life changer. In the 4 years that I have known her - she has made it a priority to pray for me, to ask me how I am doing, and to make sure I am taken care of - and she encourages others to do so as well spreading her empathy across our community. She is actually a caring cop. A lot of people don't care, but she always does. She asks about my well being. She is very deserving of this award!

Qynn McCann is a phenomenal woman. Before she was my mother-in-law, she was the chief of police at Roosevelt when I attended in 2006. I’ve seen the hours and heart Qynn puts in every single day of the year for these kids, her school, and her coworkers. Roosevelt is blessed to have her, and I would support her every single day!
I wish I could steal her from Roosevelt but she loves that school so much it will never happen!

Qynn McCann is truly what it means to be a Roosevelt Eagle. I have been able to watch her love our students and expect the absolute highest from them. Our students love Qynn in a way that makes them want to be better, they love impressing her. As a previous students at this school, my husband and I can both attest to how willing she is to help and support students. My husband will tell anyone who listens how much Qynn helped him throughout school, she loved him through being a very rowdy and mischievous teenage boy!

I have known Qynn now for 5 years and have been her neighbor for 4 of those years. I talk to our athletes about being ALL IN in football and she represents what ALL IN really means. She is dedicated, devoted and loves every student, teacher and community member here at Roosevelt. I have never seen here without a smile on her face and Roosevelt would not be the same without. She wears numerous hats for our school district and always goes far beyond to make sure our students and staff our safe. She is a life changer.

I have only know Qynn for two years now. This is what I know about her... She will give every student the opportunity to be loved by her. She has never quit on loving them even when they quit on themselves. I know that she does anything and everything that is asked by her. The list could go on and on. Simply put, she makes this world better for others because she is on it.

Qynn McCann certainly is a LifeChanger. I have had the privilege of knowing Qynn for 14 years and she has always been a positive presence at Roosevelt ISD. Qynn works hard to ensure that our staff and students are safe and feel cared for. As the HS principal, I have firsthand knowledge of Qynn's selfless giving to our students. She has several kids that she takes under her wing to mentor ans guide. One student in particular is just 8 days away fro graduating high school because Qynn took the time to get to know this student, mentor them, and show them what it means to work hard and stay dedicated to their goals. As much as she cares for our students, she also knows when to be firm and hold students accountable for their actions. Qynn is always happy and always thinks of others before herself. She volunteers in so many areas around the campus that she truly is the glue that holds our school together. RISD is a better place because of QYnn McCann and our students are better for having her in their lives.

I have known Officer McCann for almost 5 years. Ive never girly met someone so loving, caring and scary all at the same time. I have often heard that anyone is replaceable. I'm not sure that is an accurate statement with Chief McCann. I have had the privilege of working with Chief McCann for 8 years. As the junior high principal, being able to work with Qynn on issues that arise is made easier simply because of her ability to remain calm, see the big picture, and be a voice of reason. She brings an ability to be gentle with people, in any situation. Her willingness to step up and work on any project that helps our district, is truly remarkable. Look up LifeChanger in the dictionary and you should be able to see her picture. A truly amazing human being that deserves this recognition.

So selfless, so patient, so giving and so kind. Qynn is the embodiment of love. I have known Qynn for over 22 years from the time she came to Roosevelt when I was in high school, until now as an employee at the school. She is consistently humble, cares deeply for those in need and selflessly offers her time for things far beyond the scope of her job. There is no one I know who would be more deserving of the title "Life Changer".
I can speak first-hand to the difference Officer McCann has made in the lives of others. I served Roosevelt as both secondary assistant principal and high school principal for a tenure of 7 years. She enforced the letter of the law with a spirit of grace and understanding that is seldom achieved. Her people skills far exceeded those of people, like me, with Bachelors and Masters degrees. She embodies the heart and soul of Roosevelt. Students forget teachers, classmates and administrators, but they always remember the humble woman who wore a uniform and made them feel respected. Anyone who has negative memories of her likely experienced consequences that protected the safety of many others.
As a fellow police officer and a mother I'm very thankful that she's there to keep my kids safe! I'm Overjoyed that she even goes a step further and invests in their lives.

When I was at Roosevelt, I had the pleasure of working with Officer McCann. She always had time for anyone that needed her and at times, she was probably juggling 10 people or things she needed to do. There was never a frown on her face and that really drew people to her. I had many students that were "adopted" by her. My students would go from about to blow up, fight or cry to the happiest kid in school after talking to Officer McCann. She changed their lives. She had (and I'm sure still has) a very unique way of making you feel like the smartest, funniest, most important person in the world. My time at Roosevelt wouldn't have been the same without her and I know the kids at Roosevelt wouldn't be the same without her. she is the pure definition of life changer.

I've known Qynn since I attended Roosevelt, I am now a teacher here and have my own children attending. I know that she works vigorously to keep our students and faculty safe. Officer McCann is the prefect example of a Life Changer..Never does she put herself first at any time. The kids in our school are hers as far as she is concerned and their safety and well being come first to her. Officer McCann never has to asked for help. She sees where it is needed and is two steps ahead of everyone else in seeing that whatever needs done is covered. Ever morning she greets everyone with a smile and a have a good day greeting that sets the tone for everyone she touches. Firm but fair when need be, but always caring and seeing to it that her kids or students are cared for and loved. If any of them are without whatever they need, she makes sure that their needs are meet. Over the years she has shown to many of kindness to count. But those students know every day that she is there for them.. And its not just the students that she sees to it. It is staff members, teachers, and community members alike. Never her first. These are the reasons I consider Officer McCann and wonderful example of a Life Changer.
I've worked with Quinn for two years now at RISD. I have seen her go above and beyond to reach out to students when that really is not one of her job descriptions. She calls several students "her kids" and she acts like a mother would by going to teachers about how they could be doing better in class and holding them accountable not just with behavior but also their grades. She guides these kids into being better than themselves or their situations and is truly making a difference in their lives.

HEAR! HEAR! to the above narrative! I have only worked at Roosevelt for three years and I have witnessed her retrieve a runaway student with such compassion I was humbled. Qynn knew just what to say to defuse the situation and make the student feel safe. She was just as eloquent with the vilanous bat she calmy coaxed and counseled out of the building. I have went to her on a couple of occaisons for moral reinforcement and just a positive word that I very much needed to hear.
Qynn is diligent in keeping our school safe. She takes her duties seriously and does not shirk at keeping teachers on their toes - never rude - but definitely tactful in enforcing safety policy and procedure.

I graduated Roosevelt in 1997. Officer McCann was here when I was in school. Even though I wasn't a kid she has to spend much time with, she was absolutely a positive presence and someone whom everyone on campus felt like they were changed simply by knowing her. She is one of the most patient and understanding, yet firm when needed, people you will ever meet. She goes above and beyond for our district and the length of her service here shows that. She sacrifices not only for the students in our district but for any faculty and staff that need a word of advice or have a concern they need help with. Qynn is one of the most valuable employees at our school if not the most valuable. Our school is for the most part very low socioeconomic with a lot of transfers. We have kids move in and out all the time. Qynn has to work all three campuses every single day. Qynn has a tough love approach to handling certain students while also being able to be gentle and compassionate to others depending on the circumstances. I can not say enough good about Qynn and her value to this school.

Officer McCann is definitely a school “mom” to many of our 1200 students. She knows their names, their faces, their struggles, their hopes and their dreams. She does everything in her power to make them feel safe and loved and to help them realize their dreams. As the high school counselor, Qynn is an indispensable resource for me, personally and professionally. We hold our high school graduation in our arena. Qynn is a huge part in getting that organized and making sure the event goes off without a hitch. RISD might survive without her, but I can assure you, our students would be denied one of the best parts of their development and education without Qynn McCann in their lives.
I am very excited to see Officer McCann nominated for this distinction. She is amazing in her support of the children and staff in the Roosevelt ISD. I actually work for another school district, but see her at UIL games and other events. She is friendly and outgoing. She stays in the middle of things interacting with everyone rather than just standing on the sidelines watching for trouble. Others talk about how she goes above and beyond by helping with special events, standard daily activities, and even the most mundane tasks. Most of all, the members of the school district trust her.
