Shannon Bell was nominated by her principal, Kyle Chambers.

Mrs. Bell can get written language to come out of students who have no idea how great they really are until she works with them.

"Mrs. Bell is a magician," Chambers said. "She creates more master writers than anyone in West Texas. She takes students from all backgrounds and teaches them strategies and skills that turn them into Pulitzer Prize authors."

The amount of confidence that Mrs. Bell instills in everyone she touches is truly significant. She has a willingness to help all students, not just her own class. She has made initiatives such as Student Learning Objectives and AVID more understandable and meaningful to her colleagues. Mrs. Bell is always the first to step up to help anyone in need. 

"Mrs. Bell will help with anything from after school tutoring with a struggling reader to making meals for a colleague that is recovering from surgery. She demonstrates the essence of servant leadership inside and outside the classroom," Chambers said. "I can think of no better description than 'LifeChanger' for this wonderful lady."

Shannon is an excellent and devoted teacher. She is currently teaching and has taught for several years two core subjects that are tested by the State of Texas. Not only are the students tested, but the teacher’s teaching ability is, also, tested. Majority of the teachers in the State of Texas only teach one of these subjects because of the time, resources and dedication required of these subjects; however, Shannon teaches two, 4th grade writing and 4th grade reading. She is the only one within her school and in the majority of schools in Texas that teaches two core subjects. Shannon has devoted her life to ensure all her students learn to love to read and can communicate effectively through writing. This semester she had a girl that recently came from Mexico and could not speak or read English. Shannon knew the girl was intelligent and should not have to suffer because she could not understand the English language. During non-classroom hours, Shannon spent hours locating translators and aids to help with the girl’s reading and learning the English language. Shannon truly believes no child will be left behind and devotes her life to the education of her students.

Mrs. Bell is loved by her students and her peers! Teaching 4th grade alongside her has made me a better teacher. On a personal level, she is a wonderful friend. She brings enthusiasm and joy to whatever she is doing and makes sacrifices to be a blessing to others.
