Barbara Maimoni was nominated by her colleague, Ms. Brooks.

Orchard View Elementary School is truly blessed to have an outstanding educator like Ms. Maimoni. She helps children in every aspect of their daily lives and is always available if a child needs assistance. When Ms. Brooks walked in to Mrs. Maimoni's 3-5 IND ESE class that first day of school, she had no idea what to expect.

"You see, I am a Para Professional for an amazing 11-year-old," Ms. Brooks said. "Being new to the position, I prayed I could not only help this guy, but play a vital role in helping this class succeed. At that time, I had no idea just how lucky I was. I hit the Teacher Jackpot."

"Not only has Barbara taught me more than I could learn from any textbook, but she showed me how to be patient, and understand how to really understand these amazing children," Ms. Brooks said. "She goes above and beyond the call of duty everyday not only for these students, but for the lucky student teacher that is assigned to her every year. I could go on and on, but to sum it up, Mrs. Barbara Maimoni is one amazing woman, teacher, friend, mentor and more. She does not get the credit she deserves."

Mrs. Maimoni came into my life at a pivotal time, and she was instrumental in my own personal success as an educator. In my last year at Florida Atlantic University, I was placed in her self-contained classroom at Orchard View Elementary. I was a young and scared about the career path that I had chosen and whether or not I would be able to thrive in the environment that I had just walked into. It was by watching Mrs. Maimoni teach and love her students that I learned to trust in my own abilities and in the profession I had sought. There was not a moment in that classroom that I did not feel her passion, her commitment, and her love for those students, and because of this example I was able to follow in her footsteps and complete my internship as an ESE educator, and later graduate that May. It is without a doubt that Mrs. Maimoni has had a tremendous impact on all of the students that have ever come into her classroom, including myself, and I could not think of a more honorable and deserving human being for this award.

The day I entered Orchard view elementary 5 years ago, I was fresh out of graduate school and so excited and scared to start my new career as a speech language pathologist. I didn’t know where to start, and Barbara was so caring and treated me like family. She cares so much about her students and advocates for them with so much heart. I’ve learned countless lessons from Barbara and I most definitely would not have made it through my first year without her. Teachers like Barb make Orchard View the wonderful place it is, and I am so thankful to work with her everyday.

As a district resource teacher supporting students with intellectual disabilities, I have had the opportunity to work closely with Mrs. Maimoni and to be in and out of her classroom multiple times throughout each school year. At each visit, my heart warms as I watch this dedicated teacher work diligently to meet the individual needs of each and every student in her class. She goes up and beyond to plan, implement, collect data, revise and reteach as needed to be sure all of her special needs students are reaching their full potential. She is always eager to learn about new materials or methods and is first to volunteer to serve on a committee or participate in statewide initiatives. All the students in her class feel loved and important, and experience success on a daily basis. Barb is definitely a Life Changer!

Mrs. Maimoni is the definition of what it means to be an all around great educator. I have had the privilege of serving as Mrs. Maimoni's student teacher for the past 4 months in her Ind Classroom. She has shown me what it means to care for and love every student inside the classroom. She is always going above and beyond for her students and the students that she takes in to mentor from the university. Mrs. Maimoni does not only make sure that all of her students academic needs are met but also the emotional needs of her students on a daily basis. Mrs. Maimoni's passion for teaching shines through her in all that she does. She makes learning fun and always sets the bar high for our students to reach their full potential. I feel so lucky to have gained Mrs. Mamoni as not only a superior mentor but also a colleague.

Mrs. Maimoni is one of those special teachers that cannot be replaced. She was my supervising teacher as I was learning how to become an ESE teacher and I got to experience first hand how she carries herself on a moment by moment basis. The impact she has on her kids and what she puts in from an energy and effort perspective is immeasurable. Sharing how wonderful she is in every aspect is honestly impossible to accomplish with a small paragraph. In one short sentence, I was honored to work with her and learn from her. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this award than Barbara Maimoni.
