Heather Brace was nominated by her colleague, Brooke Gudgell.

Every day, Ms. Brace goes to work with a smile on her face and a positive attitude, ready to tackle anything that is thrown her way. Her classroom consists of 8-10 students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual disabilities and speech/language deficits. She believes in her students and their abilities to prosper, regardless of any label or misconception.

Ms. Brace works tirelessly to make sure that each lesson and activity are fit to her students' ability level. She creates individual picture schedules and visuals for every interaction, and she makes sure that her students are actively participating in school-wide activities. Her students have made significant gains and will continue reap the benefits of her phenomenal teaching strategies for years to come.

Mrs. Brace is also very active within her school and community. She has been at Allamanda Elementary School for the past two years. In that short time, she has led the Special Olympics team to victory, helped run the Music and Movement club, and assisted with various sports clubs.

"Heather's kind heart and positive attitude will inspire you to be a better teacher, leader and/or person," Gudgell said. "There are not enough kind words in the world to say about Heather Brace and the amount of lives she has impacted just by simply being herself."

Heather is a dedicated teacher. She has helped our son thrive this year. Our son is autistic and is semi verbal mostly non-verbal. Heather has loved him, fought for him, and taught him so much. She always has a smile on her face. You can never tell if she has had a hard day. My heart was at ease knowing my son was in her care. Heather teaches all day, is a mother to 9 year old twins, volunteers for special Olympics, is involved in after school clubs, sports for her children, and is a dedicated wife.
