She helps them by sharing her love of culture and being bilingual. Her students learn through songs, games, poems and stories. Ms. Gomez helps all of her students, regardless of their ethnicity, and she instills a desire to read and learn in them. She is a great support to the families she serves. She understands what it means to come to a new land far from your original home land. Ms. Gomez makes a beneficial difference in the lives of her students by helping them be proud of their roots, and being American.
Ms. Gomez positively adds to the development of her school by serving on committees that support the students and her school. She has done this for a decade, and has been Maria Moreno Elementary School's 'Teacher of the Year' twice in her career. Her leadership is well respected by her colleagues and peers.
"We worked together for ten years, and she is a wonderful team player who you would want on your grade level, as she gets the job done," Snowton said.
Ms. Gomez is committed to producing a nurturing atmosphere for her preschool students.
"They enter the classroom as babies crying, not wanting to leave their mothers, and they leave at the end of the school year ready for kindergarten, wanting to start their next adventure in learning," Snowton said. "That year brings a maturity that only a patient, caring, loving teacher is able to share with her students. For anyone who has ever worked with PreK, you understand what I am saying. Pre-kindergarten starts our children on their path to academic and adult success. If you have a wonderful PreK teacher such as Ms. Gomez, you walk into that class ready to learn, with no fear of the unexpected."
Ms. Gomez requires the best of the best from her students, as she gives the best of herself. She is willing to go the extra mile with her students, be it tutoring before and after school. She wants each and every student to succeed. Ms. Gomez also works with the students' parents to help them navigate the school system
"Ms. Gomez is a very quiet, calming individual who feels very profoundly for her students and their families," Snowton said. "She is truly a LifeChanger for all who come in contact with her."
