Dr. Woods is an example of an instructional leader who is dedicated to ensuring that every student, regardless of their circumstances, receives a high-quality education. She spends countless hours reading and learning about what researchers have to say about improving instructional practices. She attends grade-level collaborative meetings every Tuesday, and she also works besides teachers, coaches, and other staff members discussing student data and providing input on best practices.
Being an instructional leader is Dr. Woods' purpose on a daily basis. Dr. Woods participates in the National SAM Innovation Project (NSIP). SAM is a professional development process using a unique set of tools to change a principal’s focus from school management tasks to instructional leadership—activities directly connected to improving teaching and learning.

Although I have only known Dr. Woods for a short period of time, I have found her to an unapologetic advocate for the students she serves. She coaches staff to be their best through questioning and accountability. She is a seeker of knowledge and is willing to share what she has learned to better those around her and the field of education. It has been a pleasure working along side Dr. Woods and her leadership team the last two years.
Dr. Woods is an amazing life changer. I have learned a lot of valuable information that has benefited me in my career as an educator/counselor. I admire her confidence and dedication in working with staff, students and parents.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Woods this past school year and she has certainly restored my faith in administration. I love the way she supports her staff and students. She is truly a life changer. It is tedious being a librarian in today's schools, however, she made my job worthwhile and made me feel as if I was a valuable staff member. I didn't meet Dr Eveyln Woods in Hazelwood School District. I met her outside of her profession but we have become close Mrs Woods has stood by me and lifted me in some dark moments and I appreciate her for that she is an Awesome GOD fearing person and I appreciate her friendship

When I think about character, I think of Evelyn Garner. When I think about tenacity, I think of Evelyn Garner When I think about love, I think of Evelyn Garner. Here's why.
Her character alone makes people gravitate toward her. Her spirit is so powerful that she can influence people from all walks of life to be the best version of themselves. She's the most independent, most proactive and resourceful person I know. Literally the only person I know who can shop for 50.00 of merchandise and still leave the store with $35.00 in change.
Let's talk about her tenacity She's her worst critic in the best way. Even when she's scared or nervous about upcoming obstacles, she challenges herself to overcome that illusion of fear. Even when her home life wasn't the best, she would still show up and show out for her students. I've always admired how strong she was and still is. She was always the first to arrive at work and the last to leave.
She possesses a love that manifests uncontrollably for everyone, even me. I was one of those kids whom she opened her doors for on the weekend. This woman loved me in a way that made feel every emotion in the Webster's Dictionary. She never allowed me to shy away from my truth. Her approach with me was always raw and authentic. Honestly, it's overwhelming trying to describe this type of love in words. It's a love so profound that I've carried her, "silent side eye" every time I'm about to get myself into trouble. At 25, I at still consider her efforts in trying to mentor me into a better human being for myself and those around me.
Evelyn wasn't just a teacher or principal. She was someone's bright shining smile when they were having a bad day. She's not just a mother, she's a nurturer. She's not just disciplinarian, she's a manual of self-reliance and self-reflection. She's not just a co-worker, she's the go-to for all of those whom she surrounds herself with. I was always told that change starts with yourself and unfamiliar actions should follow suit. Imagine so many more youth carrying that "silent side eye." Imagine this one person challenging so many other's to challenge themselves in the same way. This type of act is the best type of love and change that could shake up the world.
Dr. Woods is an example of what a principal should be. She works tirelessly to ensure that no child is “left behind”. She has the ability to seek out resources for the betterment of growing the whole child. She not only encourages student growth but staff as well. Through her leadership, I have grown in many ways. I salute her on a job well done in the field of education.

Dr. Woods is truly a life changer in my eyes. I remember conducting a Parent Assembly at Des Peres School in St. Louis City as a Deputy Juvenile Officer. She provided food for the parents and their students. I believe her thoughtful deed help breakdown the walls of the meeting. The meeting turned out to be a success.

You opened our home to kids who just needed a little extra love weekend after weekend. You took kids to and from camps because no one else could, treating your students as they were your own kids. These now young adults reach out to me with stories and memories that you made possible. Countless days at the school til 8, 9 at night. Dressing up for Halloween saying: I can’t wait until my kids see me??. Not only through your words, you demonstrated how your current circumstances can be made temporary, with hard work and dedication.
Dr. Evelyn Woods is truly a life changer, I have always loved teacher and learning. One late night at Sigel Elementary School Evelyn and I had a great conversation about teaching and reaching kids where their at and stop trying to save them. Give them the tools they need to survive. From that day forward I started placing Valuable tools that students could and would use for life. I thank Dr. Woods for that and my students are truly grateful.
