Ms. Barbour was a special education teacher at Hartland Elementary School for 3 years, and has spent 26 years in the Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union.
"I remember visiting her class one day, and there was a new student from another country, or maybe another state, who had just moved to Windsor," the nominator said. "She put this student in a prominent desk, so they would get a lot of attention, which made that student feel accepted. I remember when she explained to me that it would give this student a good start."
Ms. Barbour was vice president of the Vermont National Education Association and has served in national committees in Washington as well. Now, she substitute teaches at Hartland Elementary School every chance she gets.
"When I introduce myself in the area, I run into many of her former students who share fond memories of her," the nominator said. "For many years, she has led a charity in making sure less fortunate families have gifts for the holidays. I don't know how many families they serve, but I do know that they help families in neighboring towns as well. She is a proud mother of a son, a daughter and three granddaughters."
