Marcy McDowell was nominated by her principal, Robbie Green.
Ms. McDowell has continually provided support and guidance to her entire campus. She always goes above and beyond to provide any and every teacher with whatever they need. She is always a smiling face that encourages students and teachers to strive for success, and she'll even do it in costumes, such as the iStation Fairy, Santa's Elf or her favorite character.
As a lead mentor, she coached a first year teacher in every aspect of literacy, such as guided reading, phonics, writing, and setting up a classroom library. Outside of the classroom, Ms. McDowell is a positive role model and a supportive friend. She always has a supportive ear to help anyone with anything, and is always happy to do so. She also leads marriage classes at her local church.

I remember the first time I met Marcy McDowell. I was interviewing for a kindergarten teaching position at EES, and the Assistant Principal was giving me a tour of the building. I met Marcy in the cafeteria, where she was with a group of kids who were attending summer school. I knew the moment I met her that she was special. I have had the pleasure of working with her for the past year and a half. Marcy always has a smile, she is always willing to help in any way possible, and she is truly there for the kids. She is one of the sweetest, happiest, and most positive people I am blessed to call my friend. Marcy deserves this, she really is a life-changer. <3

I met Marcy on a cruise and we connected instantly. Once we got to talking we found we both were in the education field and had so much in common. My cousin Marcy....WOW....so much could be said about this amazing women. Everything in her bio above is true and so much more. I remember when she started on her journey beginning in college when she decided that she wanted to be a teacher. I was surprised by her choice but then again I wasn't. She had a way about herself when we were growing up to help and encourage others. The same zeal and passion and heart she had for teaching back in her college days...she still has now ! The way her face lights up and how she sounds when she is talking about a teaching or education topic....you just know....she is the real deal. She REALLY cares and is serious about her craft and the ART of teaching/education and everything that comes with it !!! My cousin's passion for teaching is absolutely infectious...so much so she made me consider teaching. Her love, spirit and passion for teaching is transferable that's why she has had a hand in successfully teaching several other educators !! I personally had a friend who was in college for teaching and needed hours in the classroom to shadow another teacher...I knew exactly who to send her to. My friend spoke highly of Marcy, her professionalism, classroom techniques and that she learned a lot from her. My mom is a very good candidate for this award because she is a very good support system. She has been my biggest fan through every stage of my life and she always pushes me to be the best I can be. Marcy was my little girl's first grade teacher. She also let my other daughter who was in high school at the time work in her classroom. She was an inspiration to both of my children. I loved our kindergarten teacher and was concerned that Ms. McDowell wouldn't meet the expectations that the other teacher set for us but she went way past any expectations that I had and made it hard for anyone to meet my expectations after her. I met Marcy McDowell through her work as a Literacy Coach. Quickly it becames apparent that her passion for students and teachers transcended the walls of the school. It was normal to call her on the weekend and find her at a garage sale buying books to build a teachers classroom library. On holidays when people normally distance themselves from work Marcy does the exact opposite. I remember the first Thanksgiving I remained in Texas instead of going to be with my family. Guess who invited me over? Marcy McDowell! Yes, she welcomed me into her home and to my surprise there were other teachers from her campus there. Anyone who knows Marcy will never find themselves searching for a person to call friend or family. To say that she changes the lives of others would be an understatement. We often joke and say that Literacy brought us together but I truly believe it is God that caused our paths to cross. I say this because our mothers share some of the same health challenges, we both have a younger brother and we both have a bird phobia! Now, in my mind, she is the sister I have always wanted...just the right amount of sugar and spice. I am truly proud of Marcy McDowell. She is a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, coach, educator, friend and LIFE CHANGER OF THE YEAR! Where words may fail to describe Marcy her action speaks volumes. I met Marcy in grad school and she quickly took me under her wing and helped me get a teaching job at her school in St. Louis. From then on Marcy has been one of the most positive, influential, and caring people in my life. She helped me grow as a teacher so much! I met Marcy almost a year ago now and I can truly say she was beyond help, she was a blessing to my family. My husband and I struggle in our marriage do to our pass and background. Marcy and her husband (Pelepe) went out there way to not just help my husband and I, but to sit down with us once a week to work on a marriage work book.
