Amalia Ojeda was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.

Mrs. Ojeda is a great teacher! Working in a low income community, she strives to bring out the best in her students and expands their talents. She has a great track record, and is always looking for resources for her students. Chevron Corporation is one of the companies that matched sponsors for Mrs. Ojeda's project. One project helped all her students receive calculators, clipboards, water bottles and step counters to track their fitness activity.

When Amalia was teaching in the WCCUSD and sat on the Executive Board of the United Teachers of Richmond, she was always working on a project to help her students and colleagues. I was honored to attend the ceremony when she was given the WHO Award, acknowledging her hard work, dedication and contributions towards a better learning environment. She cares so much and works so hard to help her students be successful. What a role model! I know that where ever she is, she's working to make things better for those around her! Amalia is one of the brightest, focused, committed and caring teachers I've ever had the pleasure of knowing! She is a LIFE CHANGER and definitely deserves this award!!

I met Amalia several years ago when she taught in West Contra Costa USD. Like myself, Amalia was a member of our Union's executive board. I was impressed by her dedication to her students and her strong commitment to the teaching profession. Her coolness, sense of humor and professionalism were a model for me and others to follow. I am happy to see that Arvin's teaching community has recognized her outstanding qualities. I strongly support her as 2017-2918 Life Changer of the Year.

I'm glad to share that professor Ojeda is amazing person, caring for her students and others. She loves mentioning her Elementary students, telling us how great they are and very fun to be with. Doesn't give up on her students, thrives to help her community. The kind of professor that pushes you to keep going even though your at risk but in the end you make it through. We all need and want for a professor that shows her support towards her students and a sense of humor. thank you, Mrs. Ojeda for being there for me and for being awesome person.

As the Executivw Director for United Teachers of Richmond, I had the pleasure of working with Amalia Ojedfa for several years. During tha ttime she rose in responsibility and prominence in the teachers' association. She was the best treasurer the association ever had. She also became the chair of the teachers' bargaining team. In that role she successfully helped present the association's bargaining goals and gained a settlement. Amalia demonstrated her ability and vision which then encouraged other teachers to become active in their association. The school district was so impressed with her work and style, they encouraged her to become a school administrator. Amalia followed her heart and remains in the classroom working with students....her first love.

Amalia is the real deal. She moves mountain for others and she possesses a great sense of humor. If you don’t give her this award, she will probably celebrate the recipient because she is truly generous. Give it it to her because she deserves it!

I was a at risk teen at a continuation school. Despite getting into fights and growing up around poverty, gangs, drugs, and violence Amalia Ojeda always believed in me. She deserves this award, she worked at a school where many teens had a majority of personal problems and she always saw the good in us. I hope to be like her when I become an educator in the future. Thank you Mrs. Ojeda!!

Mrs. Ojeda was the best teacher at Gompers hands down. She is patient and caring in her teaching and yet felt like family love. I’ll always cherish the days of when she was my teacher and know that her classroom is in good hands.

I met Amalia last summer at a National Teacher Association (NEA) representative assembly, and she was the most giving person of her time and knowledge. She went above and beyond in helping me navigate the summer NEA RA. It's the same behavior she gives to her Sierra Vista students. It's the same above and beyond behavior she gives back to the community she was brought up in, the community she went to school before she left for college.

Amalia always puts her students needs first! She is a caring and loving person! Dedicated teacher ??

Regina Rivera Posted over a year ago

As much as our community parents wish to be involved in their children's school, many of them are forced to work jobs that exhaust them and allow little time for involvement. Being locally born and raised allows Amalia the insight to understand the difficulties and make each student feel as if someone cares and is there to support them.

What can i say about Mrs. Ojeda.... Mrs. Ojeda is one of the teachers that i admire the most, she worked hard with her students, she saw the best in them. And she never quit on them. She helped me get through Gompers and graduate on time, without her i wouldn't have the career i have today. Mrs.Ojeda has changed lives for the good. And i'm glad to have had her as my teacher for the last 2 years of high school.
