Rene Trevino was nominated by a colleague, Carolina Castillo.
As you walk into Mr. Trevino's science lab you will see lizards, hissing cockroaches, fish, gerbils, hamsters, rabbits, and even a hedgehog. His students enter his lab with amazement and rarely want to leave when class ends.
"His teaching motto is 'if they can teach it with a lab coat on, then they can say they know it,'" Castillo said.
He's the first person his colleagues turn to when they need something and he doesnt like to say no. He does what he can for his students and colleagues and it shows.
:His students that have graduated come back just to tell him thank you for teaching to love Science," Castillo said. "Not to mention his extra-curricular chess, rifle corp, and robotics after school clubs. He loves his job and you can tell."

Mr. Trevino is a pro-active educator always seeking for grants that he can utilize to enhance his science lab to benefit all student's learning on our campus. He volunteers numerous countless hours before and after school as sponsor for our campus Rifle Corp, is also actively involved with the Chess Club for our campus. In addition, he is the Robotic sponsor who was able to challenge and rises to the occasion of state competition in Round Rock, Texas. Mr. Trevino has a science club who meet in in class to motivate and enhance the 5th graders learning and instilling the Love for Science. Mr. Trevino is a go to person when in need of some supplies that other colleague may run out of or of need of and never says NO...Mr. Trevino insist that all students attend his class, I am living testament as a parent and colleague of a child with autism he always included my son and made him feel welcome and part of his class and for this I will always be grateful to Mr. Trevino.This individual is truly a LifeChanger...I truly hope that he is selected for this award because he is truly a well deserved individual of such an award!
Mr. Trevino is an outstanding and dedicated Science teacher. He goes above and beyond for his students. Mr. Trevino is also actively involved with the Chess and Robotics team and Rifle Corp. He does an awesome job at our campus and we are fortunate to have such a dedicated teacher!
Mr. Trevino is an excellent educator who always goes above and beyond for his students, colleagues, and school. There isn't anything that he wouldn't do. He gives up endless hours helping with tutoring and extra curriculum activities no questions asked. He is an amazing role model in our school setting.

Mr. Trevino is a wonderful teacher that fully immerses himself in the academic lives of his students! He provides so many opportunities for students to be engaged and motivated to learn. My children have been blessed to have him as an academic role model!

I got to work with Rene Trevino for 6 awesome years. He is the most dedicated Hard working man I have ever met in my 30 years of service to PSJA. He Loves and finds joy in his job. On top of his daily job title (Science Lab teacher) He has plenty of extra-curricular activities and excels in those as well.

I worked at another school for 15 years. In that time we had 3 Science Lab teachers and they were all great, but when I came to Santos Livas, I was amazed at the extraordinary things Mr Trevino was doing. One of the first things that caught my eye was an entire class of professional looking students in lab coats, caring hands-on materials and power point presentations in their pin drives ready to teach children in lower grades what they had been studying. There are great things happening at Santos Livas many of them, thanks to Mr. Trevino. If you talk to our students, you would see just how many lives he has touched and changed.

Mr. Treviño has a great heart. He’s always ready to help his colleges from Pk-5th. He instills his love of science to his students. If you are walking by the hall you can hear in his voice how pacionate he is in teaching. The kids LOVE him. He is a great teacher and role model to all.

Mr. Rene Trevino has been working under my leadership for 9 years. He is a great educator who has gone above and beyond to improve instruction in his classroom and our campus. He has been awarded thousands of dollars that have gone back into our campus to purchase technology, robots, the creation of a butteerfly garden and many more projects.
As a teacher, he has taken several students to compete in National Competition for Chess Players in Tennessee. He is also very active with his Rifle Corp Team. The students practice frequently and perform in Community event as well as school functions.
What an amazing teacher!!! He has known me since I myself was in elementary. He truly has had an amazing career I don't know anyone else more deserving. He really is an all around teacher, any child is lucky to have him as a teacher and is beyond blessed!! I hope that I can be just as successful in my career in education as he has been.

Children at Santos Livas are very lucky to have Mr. Trevino as their Science Lab Teacher. I have visited his Science classroom and am amazed at all the different kinds of animals he has in his classroom. This makes his teaching interactive and interesting to all kinds of learning styles.

He uses his spare time by being our UIL robotics team, Chess team, and science club sponsor. He also takes time to apply for as many grants available. He has won several grants the last few years: $950.00 for robotics, $6000.00 for our science club, and many others.. Thanks to Mr. Trevino our school grounds have a Butterfly and planting gardens. I respectfully ask you to consider Mr. Rene Trevino as your next Life changer of the Year.
