Nicole Newsome was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.
Ms. Newsome makes a difference in the lives of students by building positive family relationships. She makes a conscious effort to get to know each student's immediate family members by making phone calls, setting meetings, and sending out informational letters. She is an avid believer of the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Ms. Newsome starts each day with the mindset that she can make a difference in another student’s life by encouraging them to maintain high standards for themselves.
She is a ray of sunshine that brightens any room she walks into. Ms. Newsome is a positive and outgoing individual who models an admirable level of integrity for her colleagues and students. She is an educator who seeks greatness in the smallest of tasks. She creates a warm and nurturing environment by consistency showing up to work every day with a positive attitude, and a caring heart. Ms. Newsome is a giving person who thrives off the success of others. A natural passion of hers is cooking; she celebrates the success of her colleagues with peach cobbler and ice cream as way of showing appreciation for their hard work. Additionally, she recognizes students who show academic growth by hosting cotton candy parties and popcorn parties.
Ms. Newsome models what it means to be excellent in each of her leadership roles. She takes pride in being an Instructional science specialist, New Teacher mentor, Aspiring Administrator 2014, Aspiring Leaders 2017, Event Committee Chairman, Testing Coordinator Assistant and assistant Dance Director for Sapphires Dance team. She has created workshops to instill young ladies with skills on how to make life choices that will benefit them as they grow into adulthood. Along with the support of other colleagues, Ms. Newsome has provided several innovative, empowering opportunities for young ladies through Girls Conferences, support for the Food Bank, and other community service events. She is a great listener who gives positive feedback and reinforcement to communicate to students that what they are doing is necessary to prepare for the real world.
Ms. Newsome has a record of excellence and has won several awards, including 2008 Rookie Teacher of the Year, 2008 District Rookie Teacher of the Year, and 2010 Teacher of the Year. She was also a nominee for HEB Teacher of Excellence Award. She maintains high moral and ethical standards by keeping faculty, students, and staff information confidential and following the guidelines for testing procedures. Before testing, she adheres to the guidelines of room preparation by making sure the staff is held accountable in order to have a safe and irregularity-free testing environment.
"Ms. Nicole Newsome is an educator that can be trusted with sensitive leadership roles such as that of a campus testing coordinator," the nominator said.
Mrs. Newsome is without a doubt a life changer. There are MANY students on campus who call her "Mama" because of her welcoming and nurturing spirit. She cares for them all as her own and the love she gives is so genuine. Being trustworthy is one of her greatest assets and her positive attitude is far beyond contagious. As her current principal, I recommend her in the fullest terms to be considered as the Life Changer of the Year!

Mrs. Newsome has been an asset to the secondary science team! She always have a personal drive and willingness to push us further to excel to be better science teachers. It is a privilege to work alongside of her as an instructional specialist! She is most deserving of this honor!
If you ever decide to think out loud, mention an idea, mention a task, or mention a concern, Nicole Newsome brings will do all in her power to bring that concern, idea or task to life. It's programmed in her, it's what she does. She's pretty amazing!
Nicole is a great person, and colleague. She goes above and beyond for her staff and students. She creates great relationships, and makes you feel like family. Nicole has a positive attitude, sees the best in any situation and isn't afraid to roll her sleeves up and put in the hard work. She creates programs to reward students when they set goals on their assessments, so the students who struggle to reach passing still feel accomplished when they can reach their potential. Nicole also goes above and beyond to put together events for the community. She creates evening events for the title one, low income neighbor hood. The families can have a free fun night with multiple activities at the school. Nicole is the sunshine in any room!
No one is more deserving than Mrs. Newsome. I have never met a person....not just teacher....more genuine, caring, compassionate, passionate, kind, engaged than her. She is a leader and mentor for so many teachers and students. She is charismatic and always willing to teach and learn to educate our youth. She should definitely be the winner of this award!

I am 60 years old and when I look at Mrs. Newsome I was inspired by never giving up in school. I graduated from college with my degree in hand. She didnt know this though.
