When I first met Mary Jo Boutwell, I knew she was a perfect fit for our school. She was energetic and dedicated to the profession that she loved. She walked into her new classroom just a few days before classes began and went to work. From that first day she gave everything she had to her students to make sure they were learning what they needed to learn and that they felt loved during the process. I watched her not only change the lives of the students in her class, but the lives of all students at our school. Even though Mary Jo has moved on to another school, she is still greatly missed by all. She is most definitely the definition of a life changer.

Mary Jo is Superwoman! I met her in college during our undergraduate studies andrecognized right away how passionate she was about education, her family, friends, and her community. Her standards for her students are high and her standards for herself are higher. It's no surprise that she's been nominated for this award. Mary Jo and I taught next door to each other for 3 years. She loved her students and they always felt safe and secure. Mary Jo was exceptional at differentiating with my ESOL students and teaching them to be successful and to be self-motivated. Even after Mary Jo began teaching in another county, she would come back to visit her teacher friends and former students. Mary Jo will always have my best wishes ??

Most teachers change at least one persons life in their years of teaching but to change all your students lives is pretty rare! A well deserved title for Mary Jo.

Samantha Hager Posted over a year ago

The definition of a life changer is Mary Jo Boutwell. I had the privilege of teaching with her for 3 years. I would not have made it through my first year of teaching without her. She gave me good advice throughout and never let me give up when I wanted to. She always looks on the bright side and can make any negative situation into a positive one. As for all of the children's lives she has changed.... that number is too many to count. She gives her students her all everyday and really cares for each one. For the students who try to test her, she opens her arms even wider until she builds a good relationship with them. From her classroom management skills to her warm hugs, her students have no choice but to succeed. Any student who has Mary Jo as a teacher is extremely lucky because she is full of inventive ideas to get her students excited about learning. I can't think of better candidate for life changer of the year. Mary Jo Boutwell: caring, hard-working, creative, friendly, outgoing, go-getter.... LIFE CHANGER!

Mary Jo what an honor this is for me to be able to finally say not only are you a wonderful teacher but an excellent parent volunteer. My last student council trip was one of the best because of you. You never said "no" to a car wash, dance, Poinsettia sale or any other fundraiser to help make our trip the great success it was. Thank you so much!

I believe Mrs. Boutwell deserve this award because of her kind spirit and passion for her career. I was walking down the hall one afternoon and I observed Mrs. Boutwell telling each of her students that she loved them while giving them with a big hug. That warmed my heart not only because I knew she meant it but also because I'm sure there was a child that needed to hear those words.

Mrs. Boutwell is so deserving of this honor! I was one of the administrators at the elementary school where she previously taught. Each and every day her students knew they were loved by her. This school has a high hispanic population & is 90%+ economically disadvantaged. But the students made marvelous academic gains, & I truly believe it was due to Mrs. Boutwell. She truly cared about them and their success! She is one in a million!

Mrs. Boutwell is a life changer indeed! She taught my Kaleb this school year. She has helped him come out of his shell and feel more confident is his abilities as a student. He looked forward to seeing her smiling face everyday! Kaleb has had challenges all year long and Mrs. Boutwell was there every step of the way to help and encourage him. She always went above and beyond by sending notes home and making personal phone calls to check on Kaleb. We love you Mrs. Boutwell!

When I think of Mrs. Boutwell I couldn't think of a more deserving teacher for such an award. She taught at the school my children attend. My kids never had the chance to be in her class as students but encountered her often throughout campus. She was always admires by her students and from her kind welcoming spirit my kids began to love her. Everyone morning my daughter was welcomed with a hung and it meant the world to her. I can remember the day she informed us she would be moving. Even though it was great for her. We were all heartbroken. Especially since my kids would have been in her grade. To this day she checks on them and stays in touch and even after a year they still talk about her and ask to check out her page or ask me to check. With all that great teachers are not always the case. Well those that go beyond and allow their kids to be themselves and experience love of someone who is not family. I can't thank her enough for the impression she mad on my kids and we look forward to reading and hearing about all her success to come. Well deserved.
