Diamantina Garcia was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.

Mrs. Garcia has been at an elementary school library for approximately 5 years. In this short period of time, she has made a noticeable difference at her campus. She has applied and been awarded grants such as Donors ChooseFood Bank, and many more. Through her efforts, her district's schools have been awarded iPads, Ozobots, and colored printers. She is on the cutting-edge of technology, and these donations help her promote up-to-date technology applications for all.

Mrs. Garcia is also part of several committees in her district. She works together with a small group of industrious librarians to align library skills with all content areas in the district. The alignment includes lesson plans, websites, links, resources and other needed information to support librarians and teachers.

Due to her expertise, she has been a presenter at the district, local, regional and state conferences. Mrs. Garcia presents at the ESC 1 Region One Media Fair and the annual Texas Association of School Library Administrators workshop. She is on the grants committee at the district level. This year, she will contribute to the application of the National Leadership Grants for Libraries.

"I trust that she will be a great asset in providing information to make the application viable," the nominator said.

She is a team player who collaborates with teachers and staff to develop a partnership in promoting literacy.  She has transformed her library into a place where students are eager to visit. Through her dynamic storytelling skills, she incentivizes students to develop a love of reading. Adults enjoy her animated storybook reading as well. She has been instrumental in helping troubled students calm down and get lost in a book. Kids have a sense of security when they visit the library.

She works with community members to produce activities such as Career Day, History Months for various ethnic groups, Dr. Seuss, and other events. She is always extending an invitation to read to students in the library. Nurses, firefighters, teachers, administrators and others find it exhilarating to oblige.
