Brittany Murro was nominated by her colleague, Michael Dunlea.

This is Mr. Dunlea's first year in Tabernacle Elementary School as a second-grade teacher. As a district ambassador, Mrs. Murro recognized that he was new to the district and welcomed him with open arms. Mrs. Murro has been an educator at TES for almost nine years, teaching students from Kindergarten to Fourth Grade. She has such a generous personality that makes everyone feel welcomed.

"Her grace in making all feel valued and special is something that has become the cornerstone of her teaching," Dunlea said. "Her enthusiasm is contagious, and she is optimistic when others are not."

Mr. Dunlea has had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Murro on a multi-school, multi-grade level design thinking project to save an endangered species while focusing on water conservation. She is one who can deliver strong instruction to students at any age or ability level. "Mrs. Murro is a bright light in this new district of mine, and she has a long-sustained record of success with students; so much so that she was chosen for this STEM job over many highly qualified candidates," Dunlea said. "The Collaboratory is her special classroom, where students explore and discover a love for learning."

Every week, students get to participate in challenges that are driven with empathy towards solutions of real life problems. They all learn how to work together with the respect that Mrs. Murro models for them. She is actively involved in her school, where she participates in community events and supports her students. She is a special person who all students and staff respond to. Mrs. Murro regularly acts like a leader and takes risks in trying new things to show others it can be done.

"Her hands-on approach to solving challenges makes her a life changing teacher, and I want her to receive the gratitude she deserves," Dunlea said.

I had the privilege of working with Brittany during her time as a student at Rowan University; specifically when she served as Student Government President. Brittany was truly a one of a kind student to work with. She displays excellent leadership qualities and her energy and compassion for others is what makes her stand out. She puts 100% into everything she does and I have no doubt that she is deserving of this honor.

Mrs. Murro is continuously creating new and exciting ways of learning for the students in her classroom. Best of luck Brittany!! You truly deserve this honor!!

It was a pleasure working with Brittany during her years on the Rowan University Student Government Association. Brittany always looked to help others and cared deeply about the projects the Student Government Association took on..I saw great leadership and passion in her. She was a great asset to the office she held and the students she served. Not many young people today care for their fellow man as much as Brittany, her love for family, friends, job and country are her strongest traits. Britt came to Rowan University as a student I worked with and finished her time there as one of my dearest friends. I can't think of anyone who deserves this award more then Brittany. I'm very proud of her. She went from being a great kid in my office to being a truly wonderful woman.

We are so very proud of our daughter-in-law, Brittany. She is absolutely deserving of this Life Changer of the Year award. From the first time we met Brittany we saw the selfless, tireless energy she puts forth towards her teaching career as well as her involvement with the Tabernacle community. Every time we speak to Brittany she has embarked on yet another endeavor that will create new and inspiring experiences for her students. We have seen the outcome of her newest efforts by following her blog on her school web site. Her position as the new iSTEM teacher has truly unleashed her unbridled talents and imagination. No one is more deserving for this award than Brittany. She is an inspiration and positive role model to her students, fellow staff and family members.

Friday is the day of the week my students look forward to the most. Not because of the impending weekend, but because it is their day with Mrs. Murro in the collaboratory. She loves working with the students and her energy and enthusiasm shine through! She has a warm, caring way with each student and it is wonderful to see! Good luck!

Steph Caracci Posted over a year ago

Mrs. Murro motivates her students by providing challenging, relative assignments based on the latest educational research. She provides stability and demonstrates patience as students work through challenges where she pushes them to their highest level of success. Mrs. Murro’s work ethic offers a positive role model for her students; she is consistent, honest, provides clear expectations of assignments and student behavior, treats students with respect and her classroom objectives are clearly communicated. Mrs. Murro presents the material in original ways to demonstrate the relevance of the lessons to her students which make lessons interesting and fun. I would describe her as an innovative and dynamic teacher who uses creative, hands-on teaching methods to instill the love of learning in her students. It is obvious that she loves what she teaches as her energy and enthusiasm spills over to her students. She helps students with their problems, academic and social, while encouraging them to take the next step to grow as students. This demonstrates that Mrs. Murro cares about her students, she believes in them and they come to school each day knowing that the Collaboratory is a safe place to grow and learn.

I had the privilege of working with Brittany during her time as a student at Rowan University; specifically when she served as Student Government President. Among the thousands of student leaders I have worked with in my 25 year career at Rowan she still stands out as a true servant leader - always focused on serving our students and meeting their needs (rather than her own). Aside from her outstanding leadership qualities, Brittany's passion, energy, and positivity were hallmarks of her time at Rowan as she supported and championed initiatives that improved the college student experience on our campus - and are still impacting students years later. It is wonderful to hear of her nomination as it is readily apparent (though not surprising) that she continues to inspire and make a difference!

I couldn’t think of a more fitting nomination for my wife, Brittany Murro, than that of Life Changer of the Year. It is her dedication and non-stop determination to get the absolute best from herself, her students, and her peers that made me realize from day 1 that she was special. Brittany consistently raises the bar with her quality of work and the impact it has on her classroom, and does so by any means necessary. I’ve been lucky enough to have witnessed not only her work in the classroom, but all of her behind the scenes efforts at school functions and fundraisers, where she has tirelessly pushed herself to create unique and unforgettable experiences for her kids, families, and coworkers. She is literally at the forefront of every event, activity, and experience that crafts such a well-rounded and one-of-a-kind school year for every child in her care. Brittany is selfless, highly caring, and sensitive to every age, background, and need in her classroom, and will not rest until everyone can walk out having discovered a newfound love for learning. I have also had the pleasure of working alongside Brittany since the summer of 2007 at a summer camp as activity specialists, where I’m proud to say we still devote our summers off to and are now in the roles of co-directors. When we started, we both taught our respective activities in separate classrooms, but the camaraderie and sense of community she made me and other educators and counselors feel immediately is what also let me know she was special. No one ever felt left out or not a part of a growing team. In hindsight, its what I know kept me there for so many years after I started, and for obvious reasons, it’s the best career move I ever made. I couldn’t be more proud of Brittany for this well-deserved nomination. She inspires everyone she meets, teaches, and works with. It would be a monumental feeling to see her receive this honor after knowing for so many years she deserved it.

Working along side of Mrs. Murro is not just an wonderful professional experience, but it is just amazing to see what she brings to her students. Her energy is contagious and she is as supportive to her colleagues as she is to the students she is teaching. This is such an amazing opportunity for Mrs. Murro to achieve something that is so very much definitive of what we already view her as. Good Luck Britt!!!

I've had the pleasure of being coworkers and friends with Brittany for eight years. She is the most caring, dedicated, enthusiastic, and inspiring teacher I know. Every day is special in Brittany's classroom and she works countless hours to make it happen. She always puts her students first and makes each and every one feel valued and important. She not only attends every school and community event, she's usually taking on a leadership role and working to involve other staff and even her own family! Brittany has held several positions within the district, but in her newest role she is truly shining! No teacher is more deserving of this award!

Randy Meyer Posted over a year ago

My sister Brittany is one of the most hardworking people that I know, and I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today as a teacher if it wasn’t for her. Since we were little, Brittany has always been a role model to me, and she has always been there to help me and support me. Her warm, bubbly personality is infectious to everyone around her, and she deeply cares about making a difference in the lives of her students. Also, like the true teacher she is, she never stops learning and is always looking for ways to improve and get involved in new things. I am so grateful to have her as my sister, my mentor, and my friend.

Jess Philipp Posted over a year ago

Brittany definitely changed my life. She is one of my directors at my summer job ESF summer camp (her summer job as well) and is constantly a light in everyone’s life. I met her in the summer of 2016 and she’s never been a person to not help anyone. Being a friend and coworker of Brit, I’ve gotten to know her loving, selfless personality more than many. Brit is always willing to lend a hand, a shoulder, and a tissue if needed. She is constantly working to make herself better even if her list of activities is super long, but always willing to help others as well. She worked all summer in a new position while in her “free” time going to work on her class room in school to make it super fun for her STEM kids. I think Brit deserves this award because she’s defintiely changed my life for the better. I wouldn’t know what to do without Brit, and I am so glad that I know her.

I hope Brittany wins this award and recognition for her tireless work for the Tabernacle School District. She is an empathetic, innovative game changer!

Barbara Wisniewski Posted over a year ago

I support Brittany in her nomination as a life changer. She has been on the ground level of the new i-stem classroom. This is where all students pre-k through 4th grade collaborate to create ideas and put those ideas into action. She has been instrumental in launching this new approach to classroom teaching for this school year 2017-18. Brittany gives her time to many after school committee meetings, which benefit all students. She is a hard worker but what really shines through is her love of the teaching profession and the desire to see all children work at reaching their highest potential.

Kristin McNair Posted over a year ago

I honestly do not know how Brittany finds enough hours in a day to do everything she is involved with. She goes above and beyond in all aspects of her job. She created her own iSTEM program this year for her school and keeps everyone informed by blogging about everything she is doing. Over the years, she has become an active member of her school's community. There isn't an event in Tabernacle where you won't see Brittany. She truly gives everything she does her all and is so very deserving of this recognition.

Jillian Raleigh Posted over a year ago

Brittany is a fantastic educator who inspires my students every day. Not only does she teach our students how to design and problem solve in our Collaboratory, but she also works closely with my co-teacher and I to create and carry out educational experiences in our classroom.

Mrs. Murro is so very deserving of this high recognition! She is a teacher who ALWAYS goes above and beyond for all of her students and has an uncanny ability to bring out the best in each and every individual student to help them shine. Her ability to use positive reinforcement to promote student achievement is like none other I've seen. The students truly adore and respect her and are motivated to learn and achieve 100% of the time. She raises the bar for our students and they leap to meet those expectations. Mrs. Murro has an amazing rapport with not only students but colleagues and parents too. She is always supporting events and activities in the schools and the community too. Whether it be her passion for leading our Autism Awareness Paws for a Cause Tabernacle team, supporting our many Home and School Association events or attending after school meetings and committees, she is always engaged. Her love for our students, schools, and town is so overwhelming apparent. Mrs. Murro's enthusiasm for her teaching craft is contagious and all of us here in Tabernacle are beyond lucky to have her in our schools and fortunate to have her touch our lives! I cannot recommend her more highly or emphatically. Please consider Mr. Murro for this high honor!!!!!

We are so proud of our daughter Brittany! She is extremely dedicated and hard-working, and she puts her heart and soul into everything that she does. She absolutely loves being a teacher, and she is passionate about her career. Brittany loves working with children, and she truly wants to make a difference in their lives. She wants her students to be able to learn and grow in a fun, interactive environment where they feel safe, loved, and supported. Brittany wants her students to look forward to school, and she wants to create wonderful memories for them. She is not afraid to put herself out there and be silly or dress up for the sake of a good lesson or educational experience! She is always thinking about her students, their needs, and their interests. Brittany also loves a good challenge, which is why when the opportunity presented itself for her to apply for the new iSTEM/Collaboratory position in her school, she was thrilled! She loves to try new things! Brittany is self-motivated, and she is always looking for new ways to engage and encourage her students. She keeps up with the newest educational trends so that she can stay current and create new experiences for her students. Brittany is the definition of a lifelong learner. She frequently attends professional development workshops and conferences so that she can learn as much as she can. She also networks with other educators on social media so that she can learn from them. Brittany loves getting involved in her school district and in the local community, and every time we turn around, Brittany is embarking on a new adventure! In her school district, Brittany is always volunteering to participate in a variety of committees. She has also been a curriculum writer for her district, and she attends the Board of Education meetings every month. Her newest venture has been working with a team of teachers in her district to help Tabernacle host its first EdCamp so that teachers in the surrounding area can come together for teacher-driven professional development. Brittany is also very involved in the Tabernacle Education Association, where she holds the position of Secretary, and she is very active in the Tabernacle Home and School Association. Brittany participates in all of the meetings and events that these organizations host. She is also the team captain for Tabernacle’s “Paws for a Cause 2” team that supports Autism Speaks, and she organizes many different events and fundraisers for her team. We are so excited that Brittany has been nominated, and we really believe that she deserves this award.

I had the pleasure of co-teaching with Mrs. Murro in the 2016-2017 school year. I learned many techniques from her that have positively influenced my own teaching. Whether adding her own flair to a lesson or dressing up for a character day, Mrs. Murro kept our students fully engaged and looking forward to school each day. Brittany also took an active interest in any person who worked in our room and made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She has the gift of inclusion and is always the first to befriend a new person in our school. Brittany is still sought after by her former students because she helped them see their own value and feel loved. Education is definitely Brittany's passion and it is exciting to see her excel in her new teaching position.

I was amazed at how much they learned from her and how she brought about qualities in them we didn't know they had, like wanting to write books. Brittany should certainly be recognized as the Lifechanger of the Year. I have had the pleasure of working with Brittany for seven years now. I am always in awe of how hard she works to meet the needs of ALL of her students. She treats each of her students as if they were her own children. She not only teaches them the academics that they need to succeed in school, but also life skills and problem-solving skills that they will need to be successful in life. Bravo! Brittany has my vote! In the 4 years that I have been involved in the school, she has been a shining star! I was lucky enough to have her teach my son and she has left a lasting impression on us. His desire to want to learn and make himself proud is because of all the time and encouragement she gives to her students. And the amount of extra stuff that she does is mind boggling. Not only was she always on top of the latest teaching trends, she always found time to send a message and photos of what happened each week. I always felt so lucky that my son was one of her students and I couldn't wait for my daughter to have the same experiences with her but this year Brittany started the TES Collaboratory and I couldn't be happier for her. Now all the TES children get to experience her encouragement, wit and love. Thank you Mrs. Murro for ALWAYS putting our children first! You are wonderful!

If there is any teacher who deserves this award, it is certainly Mrs. Murro. She defines the term "going above and beyond". I don't know how she accomplishes so much with the students and simultaneously manages to spend so much time communicating with parents. My son had her as his first grade teacher and I will forever cherish that year. I will never forget the day that I received a text from her with a photo of her and my son holding up a sign that read "Max had the best day ever"! This is the type of thing that she would do regularly to keep parents in the loop and let them know that their child was not only doing well academically, but also enjoying school. She skillfully engages every child and knows how to adapt her teaching to the mood of the room. When the school year had ended, my son told me he didn't want to have summer vacation because didn't want to leave Mrs. Murro. That says it all!

As both a colleague and a friend I whole heartedly support this recognition for Mrs. Murro. In her many roles both as a teacher in our middle school and elementary school she has had the singular drive of focusing on her students and what they need to be successful each day. That focus and work has made her a positive influence in their lives and on their learning. As a hometown kid myself I am happy to have her as such a positive role model for our kids and as an example of what has always made our school district's staff worthy of emulation.

Jennifer Husted Posted over a year ago

This is the perfect award for the perfect person- Brittany is truly a life-changing force within our school district! I don't even know where to start! Both my sons had Mrs Murro when they were in first grade, and they are better people because if it. Brittany creates a safe, loving, welcoming environment where students are encouraged to take risks and push themselves to the best of their abilities, regardless. She meets kids where they are and miraculously makes every one of them feel as though they have her undivided attention. She manages her classroom effortlessly and has a gift for positive reinforcement and behavior management. Kids just want to do right by her! I'm so thankful she's become our iSTEM teacher this year, selfishly, because that means that my youngest will still have interactions with her as one of his teachers! Outside the classroom, Brittany is heavily involved in extracurricular activities and community events, and never hesitates to step in and volunteer to help out when a need presents itself. She's a teaching unicorn, and we're so blessed to have her in Tabernacle!!

Brittany, is so deserving of this award. No matter what position she takes on, she gives it her all. Her enthusiasm and positiveattitude have impacted both the students and staff in a meaningful manner. Clearly she has used her creativity to motivate her students to work, to grow, and to strive for excellence. She has been the driving force behind the istem program for elementary students and made her "Collaboratory" a welcome canvas for presenting student work, as noted from the walls, and even the ceilings. Brittany's upbeat attitude has fostered a love of learning and trying without the fear of failure. She has proven to be a teacher that models what can be done with effort, and a belief that students want to learn and be successful.
