Jay Milmed was nominated by his principal, Michelle Kefford

Kefford has had the pleasure of knowing and working with Mr. Milmed for the past six and a half years. Each and every day she watches him change the lives of young people in a transformative way.  His passion and commitment for students is unmatched. Mr. Milmed serves as an advisor, mentor, and true supporter for all of the students under his care.  His dedication to his students has resulted in one of the highest graduation rates in the district and the state, at 96%. His commitment to the students he has touched, does not end when they cross the stage at graduation. Having several former students who currently play collegiate sports, Mr. Milmed has kept his promise to travel at his own expense to support them and watch them play throughout their career.

Mr. Milmed spends the majority of his days and evenings talking to kids, mentoring kids and advocating for whatever they may need. "Not a day goes by that there isn't a line of students waiting to speak with him, to receive a pep talk, to seek advice, or to simply accept a needed hug," Kefford said. "Jay's approach is a very personal one. He truly gets to know his students and will stop at nothing to ensure their success."

Charles W, Flanagan High School is not a group of faculty and staff; it is a family, and Mr. Milmed is an integral part of that family. He is always lending a helping hand to others, whether it be covering classes for teachers who need to attend family events, helping to shuttle the children of staff members to the neighboring middle school, or just ensuring that every staff member has what they need to be successful.

"Jay is one of those people that you can always depend on," Kefford said. "Whenever I have needed anything as a principal, or even as a person, he has never hesitated to assist; even if it means changing his own plans or arrangements to provide support. I can honestly say that I am unsure how I could do my job successfully without him. He is the definition of a LifeChanger, and I am blessed to have him in my life and in the lives of the 2600 students we serve. There is no one more deserving of this award than Jay Milmed."

I worked with jay at Hollywood hills high and was the head steward for btu during a difficult time when district had massive teacher layoffs due to school board corruption and mismanagement. He truly cared and was sensitive to teachers and union concerns during this difficult time. He truly believed in treating teachers and students with dignity, respect and lots of love and warmth. He was proactive listening to teachers concerns and he is a leader servant. He always is a step ahead thinking about ways to support his teachers and students in the classroom. I truly miss working with him and transforming lives making a difference. Broward schools and Flanagan is blessed to have him!

Mr. Milmed is just amazing when it comes to connecting with the students. My daughter is one of his biggest fans. He has been there for her throughout 11th grade and he is her go to person in her current senior year. He has made her feel so welcome, that she often just stops by for a quick hello. I first met him during an IEP meeting and I was amazed at how well he knew and understood her. My husband and I know that we can always call or email him with any concerns. We will get fast replies and he will resolve any problem. A good example of the impact he made on our daughter: I was planning to talk to her about posting a comment, after all, he is her “rock”... Well, while reading many of the wonderful messages written by students, ex-students, colleagues and family. I come upon a message from my daughter. She already wrote something 3 months ago... Thank you Mr. Milmed. You truly are a life changer!

When people say my Dad goes above and beyond and is loved by staff and students; it’s no joke. I have no doubt that there is always a line too his office or that students yell out to him across campus. Growing up my life was filled with football games, baseball games, powder puff football, and so many other school activities; and never being able to leave the house without running into former students or current ones stopping for a chat. That’s who he is as a person, so excited to here about how you’re doing and always giving a hundred percent of his attention.

Jay Milmed (AKA - Pops) I met Pops about 20 years ago, while I was a young teenager growing up in a neighborhood where the word success doesn’t come as often as other neighborhoods. My family was not as financially stable as others, nor did I have the opportunity to attend what we as parents search for, which are the A- Rated or best schools in the area. However, Pops stood by my side and always reiterated that "success is never defined by a person’s current circumstance of life." He later took me into his home as a young adult when life challenges got even harder for me, at which time he only asked for me to "pay if forward and change someone else's life." I'm currently a hands-on father, as well as a Law enforcement officer that has received many awards for helping others that echoes those same words and actions as he did to me. Jay Milmed (Pops) generosity and commitment are life changing factors to me, my kids and other that I make contact with. Thank you Pops! (Please contact me via email if you need the proof)

Mr. Milmed takes care of his students and staff. He is always ready to lend a hand or offer advice. Student Government was struggling with all the paperwork that is required for our field trips and events. He provided us with the tools we need to help facilitate the process, from additional technology to helpful suggestions. Those two simply things were probably easy for him to do, but it transformed the dynamics of our Leadership class and Student Government Association, by helping to alleviate stress and revitalizing our students. THANK YOU!

Mr. Milmed is so deserving of this Lifechanger of the Year Award. This is a man who goes more than above and beyond for the students here at Flanagan High School. He has also helped me, not only as a teacher here, but also as a parent of a graduating senior. When my daughter was struggling with some issues at school, Mr. Milmed stepped in and helped to counsel her to make smart choices that would shape her future in a positive way. He has helped influence and change many young lives here. The students love and respect him. Nobody is more deserving of this award than Mr. Milmed.

Mr. Milmed how do my family describe him SUPERLATIVE!!! He has been my family’s support/ life line for all 3 of my kids. He’s truly there at the school for the kids they other day I was running behind on following through on something at the school. My daughter said to me mom don’t worry I will look for Mr. Milmed and surely he took care of everything for us. He’s one of a kind! You just don’t find exceptional staff like Mr.Milmed anymore!!

Vanessa Pena Posted over a year ago

Mr. Milmed is always willing to help! From my first days as a teacher, he has always been very supportive and does his best to give teachers as many resources as he has available. I've seen several times how he'll casually check in and make sure that Flanagan staff is doing well. Yet, it's the crowd's roar that he gets every year at graduation that perhaps best encompasses his passion for children and education. It always begins with the graduates cheering and clapping as they call out his name, but then you can easily see as parents and families join in on the celebration too. Milmed genuinely cares for students and everyone sees it. It inspires students as they work towards graduation and it inspires teachers as we feel supported. Mr. Milmed's commitment to his school and community make him an outstanding nominee for this recognition.

Julie McCue Posted over a year ago

Mr. Milmed KNOWS students on our campus of 2,500 students. He does this because he takes the time. He knows every student is uniquely different and has a story to tell. Once he gets to know a student he can provide the resources he/she needs to be successful. This is especially true for our Seniors that are in need of that extra push to finish out their high school experience with a cap and gown at graduation! This is also true of his support of teachers at FHS. Whenever I need support as a staff member I feel comfortable calling my needs to his attention. Again, he listens and he provides me with the resources I need to be successful in the classroom. Keep using that booming "voice" (literally and figuratively) to call student and staff attention what needs to be done, Milmed!

He was a fantastic support system when my grandson with autism had a very difficult time transitioning to high school he could not have done it without Mr. Milmed. Mr. Milmed is a very caring individual, who cares about all his students and I really appreciate all he has done for the children with autism.

Jay Milmed was born to be an educator. In all my years in education, I have seen few people as gifted as Jay. He has the knack of being able to work with faculty, staff, and most importantly, the students. They are Jay's seniors. He does whatever he can to help each and every one! He always treats them with a respect and kindness that few people possess. I am always amazed at the seniors that Jay coaxes into graduating! He never gives up on the students! Your organization could not have made a better choice than Jay Milmed for the Life Changer of the Year award.

I had the opportunity to reconnect with Mr. Milmed at an awards dinner where he had been nominated as Assistant Principal of the Year. I was reminded of his time in the classroom when my daughter had the privilege of being taught by this exceptional educator. Congratulations Jay on your nomination!!!

I have been in education for 20 years and have worked and Flanagan High School for 19 years. I have seen many Assistant Principals come and go but few have had the impact on the student body as Mr. Milmed. The students truly confide in him, and he goes beyond what is required in his job description to help these kids not only prepare for graduation but for life. I also know that he has an open door policy and I personally feel comfortable in talking to him about any issue that should arise. Overall, I could not think of a better candidate for Life changer of the Year.

Since arriving at Flanagan, it has been a true pleasure to work with Mr. Milmed! Having the majority of my students as seniors, Mr. Milmed has worked tirelessly to make sure they are on the track for graduation. He uses many techniques to motivate the students, from"tough love" to being a "warm caring father figure" and everything in between, in order to reach our students and provide them with great advice for success in and out of school. He truly is a "Lifechanger" and well deserving of this recognition! Our student body and faculty are very fortunate to have this man as a resource!

Chyanne Henry Posted over a year ago

I heard about Mr. Jay Milmed long before I met him. He was actually a household name in my family as my nieces and nephews lives were positively impacted by him before my own children and I got to know him. Mr. Milmed embodies what every educator needs to have and overall what everyone in education needs to remember as to why they became an educator. He takes his role in every student's life very seriously and to a great deal it seems personal - You can tell it not just a job for Mr. Milmed. He understands that he impacts the lives of our younger generation and fills a void for some households and balances others. He always takes the time to listen, educate, motivate and empower our children - and even some parents. Honestly, I don't even know how he finds a way to help so many that call his phone, crowd his door, email him or even flag him down to talk to him in the parking lot...but he always make the time! Mr. Milmed's demeanor makes others know they are important. And, although he is juggling multiple hats - he still finds a way to go above and beyond to help. Parents, students and colleagues alike - Mr. Milmed is our life-changer. For sure, he is DEFINITELY mine!

Matt Arellano Posted over a year ago

Jay is deserving of this recognition as he has been a strong advocate of students, particularly those struggling to graduate high school. Pop into his office (which is always open), and you will see a student being counseled with "tough love". His reception would make anyone feel at ease, and worthy of a second chance.

Vicki Cramer Posted over a year ago

After I started teaching so many courses that consisted of only seniors, I got to know Jay Milmed. The first thing that impressed me was how much he knew about each individual senior. For example, I would pass by him before school and mention a name of a student that I had an issue with and he would immediately give me helpful background information. This included school and home life information. He definitely knew his students even though he was in charge of 700 to 800 seniors. I was amazed and even more so that he listened to my concern and used it to help the student and me. This impressed me so much that I started emailing him every 3 to 4 weeks a list of the seniors that were in danger of not passing my senior math class and therefor in danger of not graduating. This ongoing level of communication is just one of the reasons that I like working with this administrator. He really cares for his students and his teachers and avidly tries to keep a positive relationship going among all of us with his ability to communicate so effectively. He is one the biggest reasons that I have remained at this school. He makes me laugh at the same time. His sense of humor helps to keep me going in the most toughest of moments. Sometimes, those of us in education get so bogged down with politics and paperwork that we let our attitudes drop - he helps to make my day easier in many ways. He truly does deserve to be recognized for this award. The impact he has had on my seniors and myself is truly commendable.

I am very fortunate to have Mr. Milmed as my administrator. This affords me the opportunity to even further see his commitment towards his students. Whether it be letting a student borrow money to pay for a prom ticket or staying late waiting with a student, so that they are not waiting alone for a ride, he always finds a way to go above and beyond. He also stands up for his teachers, as well as his students. He fights for what he believes is right and endlessly supports them. He is well deserving of this award and we are all very fortunate to have him at Flanagan High School.

Mr. Milmed is talked about all day long in my classroom. Some of my students even engage in pretend phone conversations with Mr. Milmed on their imitation cell phones. As a phenomenal administrator who oversees our ESE department, I know that I can always count on Mr. Milmed for support. He has not only influenced many of my students by his interaction and delivering special letters to them, he has inspired me as an educator. I observe him on a daily basis interacting with students on campus and looking out for their well being. Thank you Mr. Milmed for being a true inspiration to all of us and doing what you do. Mr. Milmed inspires teachers and students to do their absolute best. He is encouraging and supportive, and he brings out the best in people. He has a way about him that makes you want to do the right thing. It is as though his mere presence makes you want to be a better person. He has a strong presence - he commands respect without even asking for it. Whenever I have had an issue with a student, he is immediate in his response. He has also been very honest with our faculty and staff, making him approachable and human. Mr. Milmed epitomizes the "life changer" persona.

Chad Schillling Posted over a year ago

It is difficult to write something about Jay Milmed that hasn't already been said, but I will try. The purpose of the LifeChanger award is to give it to someone who has influenced the lives of children in a positive way. Jay has done this and more! Sometimes people don't get to see how tough it is on a daily basis to wear the different hats that we as teachers and administrators must adorn. Jay has the ability to put the appropriate hat on and be that role that the child (and sometimes teacher) needs in the moment. To become the voice of calm, reason, and also reprimand is where he excels. It isn't about his growth as an administrator that guides him, but his growth as a person that drives him to be there for whomever needs him. One of the greatest compliments that a educator can have, is to have the people he or she has touched succeed in life. From what I know of Jay Milmed, he has had a blessed career. He is deserving of this accolade and I know he will get this deserved award.

Jay Milmed is an amazing administrator and person. He has changed the lives of many students here at Flanagan. He has a strong passion for the students under his care. He takes on the most challenging at risk students and redirects their lives. He is the best advocate a student can have because he is passionate and caring about helping students to make better decisions so that they will succeed in life. The students that fall under his care are the lucky ones. Jay is definitely deserving of this award.

When I think of Jay Milmed, I think of the saying, “They don’t care about what you know, until they know how much you care.” Every student at Flanagan KNOWS beyond a shadow of any doubt that this man cares about them, and each and every student. I am proud to work with Mr. Milmed.

Jay is definitely a role model to many students at Flanagan High School. They are always in and out of his office seeking advice not only for school matters but also for many personal matters that affect their school life as well. I know I can rely on Jay as a teacher or if I personally ever need any help as well. His door is always open and his encouraging words always go a long way. I truly believe he is very deserving of this award.

Chris Walsh Posted over a year ago

Jay Milmed is an outstanding roll model that students look up to and will remember long after they graduate from Flanagan High School. He is approachable and makes them all feel important. Whether he is speaking with a class officer in his office, or sitting on the floor in a hallway encouraging a "special needs" student he gives it his all. We need more people like Jay in education.

Jeff Uchin Posted over a year ago

Mr. Milmed is chock full of encouragement. He is my, "go to guy" when a crisis [and there are many] arises with members of the seniors class. Over the years he has influenced scores of young lives. He is a father figure to many students who have become discarded by their biological fathers. Mr. Milmed is a perfect example of a life changer & you could not choose a better person to represent your organization. Than man is an inspiration to those who have bottomed out because his own life was not paved with the proverbial golden road to success. Mr. Milmed is evidence that persistence and hard work do indeed pay off exponentially. "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you," is his credo. I am proud to have him as a colleague and call him my friend.

I have only known Jay a short time and have had the opportunity to see him work with students from various situations. He is in charge of the seniors in our school, and it's clear that they have a tremendous relationship and great amount of respect for him. Most people in education get into it to make a difference in kids lives. Unfortunately, that desire and passion sometimes waivers as time goes on, that is not the case with Jay Milmed. His passion and enthusiasm are infectious and the students respond to it. This is my second year at the school, and it is already clear to me how much of a positive impact he makes on the lives of student and on the culture of the school itself. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Jay and I truly believe that he is deserving of this award. Although I want to say, whether he wins the award or not, he is a life changer.

I have known Jay Milmed for over five years now, his concern for students, especially those who struggle, is admirable. He cares about their feelings, struggles, weaknesses and overall well being. I know one student in particular who would not have graduated if it was not for Mr. Milmed. He called twice a week to make sure that the student was in class, called home to check with parents to make sure he was staying on track and to encourage him that things will get better once he graduates...this student is currently in college and doing well. Mr. Milmed you are a life-changer.

He puts soooo much time and effort into making sure that we actually do succeed and he genuinely does care about every student. He’s like a father figure to me; I’m so glad to have such an amazing person in my life. Thank you soooooooooo very much Milmed. I literally don’t know where I’d be without you. You really do deserve this. :)))

Mr. Milmed has a tremendous rapport with the students and staff and Flanagan High School. It is evident that he listens and builds trusting relationships with his students. At an age where these young adults are beginning to gain a sense of independence, Mr. Milmed is someone the students feel they can turn to.

So very well deserved. Jay goes well beyond what is expected of an educator. While on vacation with his family (Ohio) he took time to visit or touch base with past students attending college in neighboring states. I'm proud to know him.

I am a 2017 Graduate of Flanagan High School. Mr. Milmed was my Assistant Principal last year.. Mr. Milmed is a great role model. He always took the time to let students know what to expect. He got to know me as an individual. Senior year can be hectic. It was great knowing that Mr. Milmed was on campus. He would help you out if you got in a jam. He treated me as an individual. He expected and set high expectations. Mr. Jay Milmed ROCKS!

This guy right here is a serious game changer in the teaching world. Coach Milmed was by far the most genuine, ‘tell it like it is’, caring and respectful teacher, that I ever came across! Milmed always had a way of putting things into perspective in the most optimistic way! I always looked forward to his classes knowing they were going to be meaningful, life long lessons! I never doubted that he would go on and continue to influence the lives of so many people! Big UPs to Coach Milmed, continue to set the bar, the world needs more people like you!

I am truly amazed and proud of my brother. Growing up, he was not the world's best student. To look at what he has become today, shaping young children's minds, nurturing them into young adults who have a passion to become leaders themselves, it truly is awe-inspiring. Everyone says I am my mother's clone (if you look at us side-by-side, you'd understand why), but when it comes to the educator's gene, Jay lucked out in that department. I can't think of anyone else who is deserving of this award. He literally puts his life on the line every day for some of these kids, physically and emotionally, and he should be recognized for all the hard work he puts in.

Jay Milmed has made a very positive and lasting impression on not only my children who attended Charles W. Flanagan High School but so many others as well. The guidance and compassion he provided regarding my children thoughout their high school years paved the way for who they are today. I am an administrator at a school that has hired child care teachers who graduated from Charles W. Flanagan High Schools Early Childhood Program and the teachers who teach at my schools have shared such beautiful stories of how Mr.Milmed has touched or impacted their lives in such a positive way. When I attended my son's graduation this past year I was so touched to hear the many, many, cheers and applause from EVERYONE in attendance but especially the students when Mr. Milmeds name was announced. It is already hard enough to deal with that my children are all grown now and not going to school any longer. I find one of the things I miss most this new school year is talking with Mr. Milked about my children's school matters and progress, he always took the time to speak with me and my children. He is a true advocate for all of the students at Charles W. Flanagan High School and no one deserves this recognition for such a prestigious more than Mr. Milked.

I have known Jay since before I started my official teaching career - he was an AP at the school I had the pleasure of interning in. From the beginning, he was friendly and helpful, and it was obvious students loved him. He was and continues to be someone they know they can talk to whenever they have a problem, and when you are working with teenagers that counts for a lot. Jay has a huge heart and puts so much of it into his job that I can’t imagine another person more deserving of this award.

I remember being in high school, i never wanted to show up to school. I was at the point where i knew i wouldn’t graduate due to my absences and my grades just fell through. It’s the scariest thought that you’re not going to graduate with everyone else in your class. I finally got the courage to come in and speak with Milmed and Boyd who went above and beyond for me. I’m their success story. They helped me take every class i needed, they provided me with scholarship information, and they one by one helped me achieve every graduation requirement. I went from a non graduating student to walking on that stage with the rest of my class. I still remember to that day hugging Milmed at the end and crying cause i wouldn’t be where i am now without him. I’m now on the deans list at my college and pursuing my masters degree in computer engineering all due to Milmed. You deserve this Milmed.

Mr. Jay Milmed has been an incredible aspect to my life and academic career. Not only helping me, but an unbelievable amount of kids have been affected by him. Everyday he motivates students like myself to be persistent and consistent. We worked together to make our days better, and through the rough is always successful. Milmed goes above and beyond for his students which he treats as his own kids. Never leaving anyone behind I would never ask for a different assistant principle. Ask any of his students what an impact this man has made, and You will be flushed my emotions. Truly the best one to do it, #TeamMilmed!

Jaryc Zea Posted over a year ago

When tough times arrived throughout my senior year, I was ready to give up on school and accept the fact that graduating from High School perhaps wasn't my destiny. Mr. Jay Milmed; however, called me down to his office one morning around May and gave me the opportunity to accomplish something both my mother and I had shed tears for. His passion for wanting to help struggling students is very apparent in situations like mine. He made sure I was back on track to graduation and even went as far as calling a teacher of mine and specifically asking her to do anything to help me pass her class (that I had an F in) A WEEK BEFORE SCHOOL ENDED! Through his efforts I was able to walk the graduation stage alongside my classmates. Jay Milmed not only made sure I received a diploma, but a memory that will last me a lifetime. Many others that graduated in 2017 will agree.

There was a point in time where I felt like I wasn't even gonna make it to see my own graduation. I was gonna drop out of school and just go with the wind and hope someway somehow I'd do something with my life. Mr. Milmed has kept me out of so much trouble, and has pushed me to believe that I can do whatever I put my mind to as long as I put the effort in. He's not just an administrator. He's a counselor. He's a teacher. He's a coach and he's a friend. Without Milmed, that's exactly what I'd be doing. Milmed has a great heart and he finds joy in helping other people, even when it means putting himself on the line. And for that I thank him. Because without him, who knows where I'd be.

Boy oh boy has Mr. Milmed gotten me out of a lot of trouble when I was in high school, more trouble then I can remember, but I do because you don't forget people like Mr. Milmed. You never forget the smile he always has on his face, or his voice from kind words. You don't forget people who go out of their way to ALWAYS help you. You don't forget people who do things because they really care about you. Back in high school trouble was my middle name and Mr. Milmed was never more than two steps behind me. And I say behind and not in front because he allowed us to make mistakes and he knew that as kids, as humans we aren't perfect. I appreciate him for that because I was allowed to be a kid and enjoy my high school years with out always looking over my shoulder or hiding under a rock. I was allowed to be myself and learn from my mistakes on my own. I may not have understood all this when I was in high school but I'm an adult now and I'll always and forever keep our memories close.

I don’t know where to start, Mr. Milmed was there through every obstacle I had to face throughout my years of Flanagan. Not only is he a great assistant principal and loving father, but he also inspired not only me but many students walking the halls of Flanagan. He wasn’t a person to judge and he will speak the truth with words of wisdom. There’s moments when Mr. Milmad would check in our classes just to make sure we are on track and not just experiencing a high school social life. If a student struggles, he would uplift them to do better and remind them the importance of why it was responsible to wake up every morning motivated for a change not for our families but for ourselves to achieve any goals we wanted in life. There’s experiences I shared with him that I needed an open ear and how I was going to also face a life change of my own and when I walked the stage with the secret of carrying a baby girl, he was ready to meet her months after I graduated and held her like his own. Bumping into him with additional family members graduating, he always had a smile and open arms to greet my daughter and I. I remember there was always a student in his office just to say hello and sometimes to hear the words of wisdom he would share. I graduated in 2013 and had to share how remarkable and kind hearted this man is. I hope you get this award Mr. M!

So I’ve known coach Milmed since 1996 when he was my football coach. He took me under his wing and kept me on a straight and narrow path. I was one of those kids that easily could and would drift to trouble. Coach Milmed was always there to real me in. I cannot thank him enough for helping me become the man I am today. Coach if your reading this I’m currently on my 17 year in the United States Army. I’m a Sergeant First Class and the logistical platoon sergeant for the Army’s Ranger School. I’ve deployed 9 combat rotations to Afghanistan with the 3rd Special Forces Group. I’m doing great and have never forgotten about you. I’m so happy to see your still changing life’s today. Your life long friend and best inside line backer you had the pleasure of dragging around a football field. SFC Peter Beresky

This man is one of the only people in the front office that actually care about me. Even if i dont go to him with problems as much as my sister did, i know that he’ll still sit and let me vent. & he’ll notcie when im missing for too long & he notices when im not okay without me having to even speak. I can bet everyone who sees this, that Kefford couldn’t have picked a better person for this award.

Coach Milmed was what we called him back in 1998 at Piper High! He was an amazing teacher and made my senior year that much more memorable. Everyone loved Milmed!! He referred to me as “Dj-ja-ja-ja-ja-ja-jurno”, I don’t remember why, but it’s in my yearbook. After an unfortunate personal experience I had during my senior year, he did everything possible to make sure I passed the class. He was very supportive and happy to see me graduate. I am so happy to see him receive such a nomination, it is well deserved and I hope he wins!!

"Coach" Milmed was my history teacher in 2002 at Piper High School. I never forgot one of the conversations I had with him about a decision I made that year in which I regretted in making after the fact. I share it with my younger guys today who I lead. His class was entertaining and you could always speak with him, a great person.

For me it was his ability to simplify the studies and make learning fun! Milned really sucked you in to his lectures and kept the entire class engaged at all times. I am most thankful to Milmed for going above and beyond his responsibilities as a teacher by putting in extra efforts to help me make the grades required to graduate on time. I will never forget you Milmed. Best of luck to you my friend! I hope you and Troy can get together one day fir a beer!!

He never thought that he was above any teacher or non instructional staff member. He would roll up his sleeves and do whatever was needed to provide students with the best education possible. He is a firm but fair administrator- not afraid to correct, give positive feedback and will praise when a great job is done! I believe no one is more deserving of this prestigious award!

Mr. Milmed was the best person on Flanagan staff to build a relationship with. He genuinely cares about each and every student at the school and bends over backwards to no end to make sure that students have the tools necessary to succeed. If it wasn't for Mr. Milmed, I probably wouldn't have even graduated, but he motivated me to look within myself and drove me to believe that I can overcome any adversities. With his push, I was able to finish off strong and proceed on my journey through college. He is a so supportive and an amazing person all around.

I finally felt like someone who had POWER could LISTEN to me and HELP me. Mr. Milmed is more than administration to me. He is dearly my friend. Over the course of my teaching career I have never met anyone that has such a profound impact on people as Jay Milmed. Students and faculty members alike know that there is always someone in their corner who is willing to give them the tough love. His honesty and work ethic has helped shape every student I see walk into his office. Whether they are their to share a success or because they have done something wrong. they leave feeling as though he is there for them and helping put them is a better place. Personally, he has been a terrific mentor and guide for me. He is an outstanding leader and a true life changer.

As an educator in Broward County for 45 years, I have worked with a great number of administrators. Jay Milmed stands out among them as one of the most outstanding administrators in the system. One the most prevalent traits he posses is the ability to communicate with students on every academic, social, and grade level. He takes the time to know each student and converses with most of them on a daily basis. Another thing that makes him an outstanding administrator is that he is not only concerned with students academic progress but also with their life skills readiness. It is a privilege to work with Jay Milmed.

Brian King Posted over a year ago

I have known and worked with Jay Milmed since 1996. We worked on several events and project together, as follow teachers at Piper High School. Jay was an amazing teacher, always interested in the academic success and well being of each of his students. I have continued to work with Jay, as he moved on into Assistance Principal roles, and I into a district position. His concern for his students being ready for their "next move" in life is evident by the late evening emails and texts he and I engage in as he wants to ensure students are given each opportunity to obtain and Industry Certification before they graduate. Jay is truly a life changer for the students of Broward County and I am proud to call him a co-worker and a friend.

He came up with an educational plan that best fit my needs and wants . I was able to graduate early, move away, and start working while still being able to walk the stage with my peers at the end (which meant everything to me) I now am 19 with my realtors license interning with the #1 real estate company in boca raton Florida, while still attending college. I have known and worked with Jay Milmed in two different schools, over the past ten years. Mr. Milmed has always had an open door policy for students and teachers a like. He is a true advocate for students. There is always a student waiting to see him. An example of Mr. Milmed as a Life Changer: When I first came to Flanagan High School, Mr. Milmed told me that he had a student with special needs, who loved to bake. He asked me if it was possible for her to take my class, that it may help her to graduate. The student in year two of Culinary, has developed culinary skills, but more importantly has developed social skills and is having a positive high school experience. I believe Mr. Milmed's special interest in this student, has lead to these changes and to her success. I gave you one example of one life he has changed, there are countless others. I agree with Mrs. Kefford, Mr. Milmed is a Life Changer, he works tirelessly to help and mentor students.

As a alumni from Flanagan, Jay Milmed has guided me each of my four years without any complaints. He doesn’t shy away from being a leader and guiding students and teachers to be better than themselves. He puts students in the right direction for success and gives them the opportunity to do so. He is a great role model and is very humble even through all the work he has to put up with. I am so happy for him to be a nominee for this award.

"Life Changer of the Year" is what Mr. Milmed does on a yearly basis with so many of the students he comes into contact with at Flanagan High School. As a support facilitator for the seniors, Mr. Milmed and I work together on a daily basis. He understands students and their needs, he listens to them and hears what they are expressing, he offers sound advice and most importantly is very honest and realistic with each and every student. Mr. Milmed never lets a student feel alone or without hope. He takes the time to meet each need and follows through with his word. Mr. Milmed is very deserving of this award.

Jay Milmed is a beautiful human being. He seeks out the marginalized, overlooked, and under-served kids and empowers them with his energy and attention. I heartily second everything Mrs. Kefford said about Mr. Milmed, a super administrator, a unique personality, and all around great guy!

I have had the pleasure to work along side of Jay Milmed for over 5 years and I am proud to call him my friend. Jay plays an incredible role in the lives of his students. He works diligently to ensure that every student has an opportunity to graduate, he builds relationships with his students and teachers that last long after they have moved on from Flanagan. I'm so excited and proud that he is nominated for this honor, I can not think of anyone more deserving.
