Deante Spann was nominated by a colleague who wishes to remain anonymous.
As the only male elementary teacher at Morton Elementary School, Mr. Spann's presence makes a beneficial difference. For the past three years, his students have shown remarkable growth. His constant focus is helping students acheive high expectations for themselves and set reasonable goals. He has a vested interest in his students because he grew up in the community in which they live. Often times, he goes to students’ homes when they're sick, and he's always in constant contact with parents.
Mr. Spann constantly seeks out new ways to help him and his colleagues grow. When he acquires new strategies, he shares them with his colleagues, and is always there to motivate them through tough times. Due to his leadership ability, he was chosen by the superintendent to serve on a panel for new teachers from various Mississippi school districts. He was also chosen by his colleagues to be "Teacher of the Year." Mr. Spann is currently on his district’s curriculum and instruction committee, and serves as ELA subject area chair.
Mr. Spann has a structured classroom where he models the behaviors he expects from his students. He is always kind and nurturing when communicating with his students. He has taught them to encourage and praise one another, which they now do without his prompting.
"You will often find Mr. Spann out in the community and at basketball games grading papers," the nominator said. "His students and their parents love him, and those students who do not have his class wish they did."
Mr. Spann is so very worthy of this honor, during his high school years at Forest High School,I knew he would do great things in his profession. He is just awesome and love by some many, May God continue to Blessed him in all his endeavors.

I feel honored to have the opportunity to bear witness to great things this young man does for his community. It’s great to see someone with such passion and genuine concern for the well-being of our youth. Without a doubt, he epitomizes and models hard work, dedication and relentless effort. Best of all, he doesn’t expect a pat on the back since he’s doing what he’s been called to do.
I have known Mr. Spann for a few years now. He’s always the same, always respectful and always ALWAYS smiling. He has a heart of pure gold and his kindness is above anybody I know. To me one of the things I like and admire about him is his love of God. He is truly a man of God and it shows in how he teaches and reaches his students. If anybody deserve this award it’s Mr. Spann.
He is a man with a pure heart and puts the kids first.
I am honored to have this opportunity to bear witness regarding Mr. Spann's remarkable qualities. Upon completing his daily school-day teaching job, he comes to our local community center as an after school tutorial instructor. He consistently works in a professional, friendly and caring manner, as he tackles his duties working with at-risk youths with dedication. He spends the necessary time and effort required to make sure EVERY student succeed! That's his proven commitment!
I've watched DeAnte from the very beginning. He is absolutely one of the most natural great educators I've ever had the privilege to work with. Parents can fully trust that he has taken every opportunity to teach their student. Colleagues respect and can expect to be respected and be consistently motivated by Mr. Spann. And, administration understands what a true jewel we have here at MES!
From day one, I've admired and appreciated who he was as a person and an educator. It is so encouraging to see a young man take this position and the responsibility of his role so seriously. He deserves all the accolades he can get.

Mr. Spann is a man that is truly dedicated to educate the youth in Scott County. He leads by example. He teaches not only academics but he teaches life skills, respect and the never give up attitude. He is a great teacher and a fine young man.
I'm fortunate to have Mr. Spann as my co-teacher at MES. It is my first year as a teacher and I have learned so much from him. I see what an impact he makes on our students and hope that I can become that kind of teacher.
Mr. Spann is very worthy of this honor. He goes over and beyond the call of duty to make sure that knowledge is instilled in his students. As a young man, he’s a role model who sets the standards high.
Mr. Spann is a true man of God who loves his students, family, friends and community. He does NOT let the kids settle. He gives them the boost that they need to make it to the next level. I love him to pieces. He teaches on a level that is fun and educational. He finds a way for the students to learn whatever it is that he is teaching and they get aboard with no hesitations. Good guy my best friend grest man of God n music bei g a full time drummer st church. I kno he has a grest mind set for the youth n positive with the students.
Mr. Spann taught my daughter and he was the best teacher over at the 4th grade. He always contacted the parents and was willing to help out with any and everything. We love him as a teacher and a individual. He’s the best person you could ever meet. Thanks for all you do for our kids. It’s a pleasure to have you in our school system
I have known Mr. Spann for my Years, he is a great inspiration to our youth. I am looking forward to him becoming my last son teacher in near future. He has a passion for the position he holds and it really shows and makes a difference in the children lives he comes in contact with.

To truly understand the impact Mr. Spann has on his students, colleagues, and community, you really just have to stand back and observe. There have been times when I have been awestruck at how he deals with his students. He will not allow them to settle for anything less than their best, and he encourages them daily to challenge themselves! As his principal, I can truly say that he plays a major role in the climate and culture of our building! Each year, I have to make the hard decision of who goes to his class, because EVERYONE requests Mr. Spann!
Mr. Spann is a model teacher who has high expectations for himself and for his students. He wants all his students to succeed and goes above and beyond to make sure they are successful. As a former principal and having worked closely with him, Mr. Spann exemplifies the type of teacher one would want on his/her faculty and staff. He is a leader and works well with fellow teachers. He’s truly doing what he loves even when he was a young boy he played the roll of being a teacher to children younger than him. He puts his whole heart into whatever he’s doing with his students. Truly he has been a blessing to a lot of his students.
