Erica Gaines was nominated by her students, Deashia Teemer, Jerica Hicks and Lauryn Griffin.
Ms. Gaines is a LifeChanger because she gives her all to her students and coworkers every day. “After the few months that I have known Ms. Gaines, I have seen her grow tremendously,” Hicks said. “As a student, I know how hard it is to feel like you can trust a teacher, but with Ms. Gaines, it's like having a friend to talk to. I have witnessed firsthand the amount of time she dedicates to her students.”
Ms. Gaines' generosity extends beyond the classroom. After storms swept through Albany, she asked her class if they needed anything, and if they did, she would try her best to get it for them on her own dime.
“Ms. Gaines is a very real teacher. She gives great advice,” Teemer said. “That is why I always go to her whenever I'm feeling unsure of a situation, academically and/or personally. I greatly appreciate Ms. Gaines.”
Ms. Gaines made it her goal to make sure Hicks wouldn't have to pay out of pocket for her tuition. She helped Hicks find scholarships that were available and even sponsored her to go on trips with the school to see colleges. Ms. Gaines has exceeded every task given to her, whether big or small, and she always takes pride in what she does. She was given the title of FLIP coordinator, a job not many teachers would want to have, but she took on the task and made the program better. She also oversees the Albany High School Pageant, and has worked for weeks along with some of her colleagues to make sure everything runs smoothly
“Ms. Gaines empowers me to be the best in everything I put my hands to,” Griffin said. “She also shows me that I can be a leader and have a voice for myself. She has shown me that even though I am a soft spoken person, I can still stand up for what I feel. Ms. Gaines is truly a LifeChanger."

I met this amazing woman on the campus of the "Unsinkable" Albany State University in Albany, GA. We were blessed to become colleagues twice in the course of our careers. I cannot think of an educator who is more deserving of this honor than Ms. Erica Gaines. A master teacher who continues to develop her craft for the progression of talented, intellectual students on the East side of Albany, GA. Where she works to mold the minds of young people, helping them reach the possibility of turning their dreams into reality.

Erica is well deserving of this nomination and title. She has overcame so many trying obstacles, but have still withstood the hands of time. I have never seen someone be able to recover from losing their first son, being adopted, and a single mother. Without reservation I recommend Ms. Erica Gaines for this award! A lot of times people underestimate the value of a teacher. Someone who not only imparts knowledge into you, but also wants you to succeed and grow. Teaching is in no shape or form an easy job, but Ms. Gaines manages to not only teach science but give her students valuable life skills that they can use forever. Teachers don't get paid to work at home however, naturally when students are having problems it is hard not to turn into the mentor/ confidant that they need. Erica Gaines is a real life changer be. I noticed this when she and I worked together in Terrell County. She taught social studies to 7th grade students at Terrell Middle School. As a teacher and cheer coach, Ms. Gaines made quite an impression on the children. She didn't just come to work to do a job. She came to connect with the children and really cared about their success in and out of the classroom. A wonderful mother to her own son, she poured that same love and attention into the children. Ms. Gaines is a very big inspiration to me in my life. She is always there when you need her. Whenever you need someone to talk to or someone to listen she is the person. If you're having a bad day she will brighten up your day. Just being in her presence helps. She is always laughing and joking with you to keep your day going. She has made a very big impact on my life and I am very proud to say that I know her. And she also gives the best of the best advice with "ANY" situation.
Erica embodies the definition of a model teacher! She treats all students as if they were her own! She goes beyond the call of duty to ensure that every child has what they need and she has a very special talent of bringing out the best in others!! Go Erica!!! Keep pushing and inspiring others!
I don't think there's enough space to tell u what a great impact she's had on my life, but I'll still list a few. When I think of her I think of optimism, preserverance, selfLESSNESS, and pure love. OPTIMISM: out of any situation she displays, has always displayed, optimism. Always found a reason to be positive about any situation. That taught me how to clear negativity from the atmosphere. PRESERVERENCE: Erica has been through so many storms an has faced so many obstacles and still found it necessary to push through it. She's reach great goals despite the odds against her. She taught me how to keep going no matter what I'm going through. SELFLESSNESS & PURE LOVE: These go hand in hand, in my opinion. No matter who u are, she loves God's people. Whether u return the love to her she continues to selflessly give her love and dedication to everyone. Need a shirt? She'll take hers off and give it to you. Need a song? Shell sing it to you...and oh so sweetly. There'll never be another human being that possesses her genuine qualities. Very authentic. Thank u for simply teaching me to be who God intended for all of his children to be. God Bless you.
Ms. Gaines is definitely a role model in my life. I watch her everyday be a great mom as well as a amazing teacher. I'm beyond Grateful to have in my life. It's inspiring to watch her grow. Most definitely one of the best teacher in DCSS.
Ms. Gaines is a very inspirational enthusiastic kind-hearted young teacher! She absolutely loves and cares for her students and all those that come into her presence. Erica Gaines is one of the most extraordinary women that I have met. Her intellect exceeds most but her God given gift of relating to people especially young is beyond words. She uses simplicity to draw their attention and her son referred to her super power being love. I believe she should be named the "Life Changer of The Year".

I'm still overwhelmed the fact that my oldest sister Erica Gaines has become more successful than anything. I can't explain how much I'm so proud of my sister. As I watch her become the woman she has become inspired me to do better with my life. I never saw someone like her work as hard as she dose. There been many times she wanted to give up but I couldn't let her do that. I always reminded her of the words she tells me when I'm feeling down and discourage. Her saying "No matter how the situation is or what it has become , I always want you to push even harder"! My sister is more than a wonderful teacher , mother , counselor , provider , loving caring person. She's truly a blessing from God. My sister always made sure our family was good no matter what we asked for she made sure we got it somehow. She's the type that will take her clothes off her back and give it to you. She hate to see someone going through. She always been the type to encourage you to do better with yourself and have more confidence within yourself. I never knew I'll grow up to have someone that I look up to besides any celebrity. I can honestly say my sister Erica Gaines is my celebrity/#1 fan! She made me believe in anything that is possible long as I'm willing to make it possible. She never told me wrong even when I didn't want to hear , at least that's what she was thinking lol. But I always took her words to the heart, cause I knew deep down inside that she telling me nothing but the truth. Once again I am proud of you Erica. Keep up the awesome you're doing with your students, child, family, facility etc . You deserve the best and I love you !!!!
The students could not Have nominated a more deserving person. Miss.Gains is truly a life changer. She loves her students and she gets real joy out of educating them. Miss Gaines also has an amazing personality that relates to people well. For me personnel she lifts my spirits with her smile and outgoing spirit her friendship is like gold to me.
